WC/Freo fans : he’s a good player but we don’t really need him and he’d cost to much

Carlton fans : Ha ha of course you need him he’s the best and would make either of your sides way better

WC/Freo fans : hmm ok then we would take him if he didn’t cost too much

Carlton : bah your dreaming he is Carlton through and through .... take a hike

Weirdest trade thread ever

Watching Brayshaw, Cerra and Serong boss it yesterday do not want.

still trying to get Valente on the park too
Plus Tucker, O'Driscoll. Both with more speed.

Agreed. Better to develop what we have. Cripps is looking past his peak. He wouldnt be worth the price.

Didn't have a great year last season, probably wanted to wait it out so he could get a bit more out of his contract.
Maybe the Blues are low balling him.

Dangerous game to play.

People talk about player loyalty but nobody talks about Club loyalty.

Most clubs use loyalty to reduce players wages to create cap space to poach another clubs player.

Cannot believe how much underrating of cripps going on in just 2 rounds of 2021

Th guy is a GUN player and will get through , A midfield beast thats getting caught out with the new rules that will be worked through

I don’t think Cripps issue are new rules. it’s clear injuries are taking their toll. His defenders ignore that big part.

The game was much faster before with all those rotations so not sure why people think game speed is an issue.

He was absolute poo last year too, finished 9th in the Carlton b&f

This is based on 18 months of average form not 2 rounds

It's not remotely "cooked".

He's been working through niggles over the last couple of years that are totally recoverable with rest, but that significantly diminish a player's output while they're dealing with them.
hasn’t he rested enough? It’s 2 games into the season and looked below par last year. Sorry but his body is clearly not up to it at this stage

The Eagles will chase hard IF he decides life after footy is in Perth. See Harry Taylor, home meant home, not Perth & it wasnt about money.

I struggle to believe the injuries are as bad as being made out

5 months between seasons you would think these injury issues's would have been resolved before the season begins and if he needed a major operation it should have been carried out and given the required time to rehab. Carlton have 1 of the best fitness people and i cant imagine taking short cuts with a player like Cripps. He Certainly didnt look injured in the first half against Richmond

Did he influence the game? At his best he is good at that. Good players playing below par often are carrying injuries.

Well, he ain’t going to make much money in Northampton. And unlike Harry Taylor, Cripps would be able to make a truckload off the field in Perth. Who cares what a defender is selling.

I'm not sure it's "under-rating". It's a case of how much would he cost and is it worth it for WC or Freo?

Assuming Carlton would match any offer and ask for two first-rounders in exchange, I'm not sure that's what WC should be doing.

WC need to be building the bones of an under-25 side that can be halfway decent post-2023.

That’s definitely fair. The Eagles midfield is mature but stacked. Freo looks to be developing their own younger group.

But for the right club, two first rounders would be worth it for Cripps.

At the right contract, say 4 years at $750k a year, I’d pony up our two first rounders this year to get him into the Richmond midfield.

Won’t happen but would be fun to watch no doubt.

He will re-sign with the Blues and see himself out as a loyal player in this era for them. Hopefully he is very well compensated as a result.

Yeah that would work for Richmond, particularly when those first-rounders are likely to be in the late teens.

Some of the chat about Cripps being worth $1 million per year for six years was outrageous, though.

Rather than chase Patrick Cripps from Carlton, the objective for WC should be to replicate the trade for Jamie Cripps. He was drafted at pick 24 by St Kilda in 2010. After two seasons, he was traded along with pick 46 for picks 41 and 44 from WC.

Poach players for a discount after 2-3 years. That's the name of the game. Same with the Yeo deal.
