True, but Cripps isn't anywhere near as dynamic as Judd was.

If Cripps isn't in the contest, due to injuries, and not wanting to be banged up, where does he go? Wing? Nope. FF? Not with his poor shot on goal (and not when we have a glut of talented tall forwards).

If Cripps body breaks down, he is of absolutely no use to us.

Judd was a centre square only player while at Carlton, and wasn’t very dynamic at all. Cripps at least has the benefit of being thrown forward, and gets plenty of rest time on the bench.

We’ve actually managed Cripps’ midfield minutes far better than we did Judd’s.

Not sure why the weird West Coast forwards tangent. Cripps will never be a full time forward, but he gets a decent opportunity each game with pretty mixed results.

His goal kicking is horrendous, but we’ve managed to create some decent scoring opportunities through having him outmark a smaller defender around the 50. That is his perfect rest spot.

Setterfield is far beyond underwhelming after 36 games. Elite hands, and a seriously fierce tackler. This Bigfooty myth that he’s no good continues to persist though.

You’re also forgetting Williams, who we have signalled will play as an inside midfielder.

Judd didn’t break down until his final career-ending injury, which was completely different from any prior injury he’d sustained over his career.

We’d be ecstatic if Cripps’ output matched the great mans over his next 6 years. (Brownlow?)
Williams an A grade inside mid???

Settlefield isn't an A grade player either.

Who said either of them are currently A-graders? My point was you’ve omitted one of them and completely missed the mark on the other.

I wouldn’t be surprised if either get to the level though. Williams best footy has been when he’s used as a stoppage player and Setterfield is only 36 games into his career.

Neither have hit their peak.

La delusional.

Blues best midfielders are: Cripps, Murphy, Walsh, and Ed Curnow.

The issue is that only Cripps and Walsh will be A grade players, the rest are solid or developing.

Dow, Stocker and Settlefield are very underwhelming and Cripps is the only capable inside midfield.

Cripps' body will break down just like Judd's did.
My comment was more around building KPP talent up first (our KPP stocks are probably the best they have been for 20 years) before building a midfield around Cripps. In terms of the midfield, your assessment is correct and we are still ight on - it is an indictment that Murphy features in your top 4. I don't agree with the Williams recruitment but if he displaces Murphy from your list then that's a win.

Being very harsh on Setterfield - I see him developing into a top 2/3 mid at Carlton.

Retain Cripps and add a much improved Setterfield and a full capacity Williams - hopefully result in a more balanced midfield than Judd supported by Murphy and Carazzo (Carlton circa 2011).

Unlike those two clubs, West Coast doesn’t have a born to rule mentality, they just go about their business and achieve success without the hubris of Carlton and Essendon.

The point is your post is a false equivalence.

Does recruiting a slow clearance machine, with poor disposal deliver on field success?

He's a brilliant player, without doubt.

Would he be a brilliant addition to our team, all things considered? I not quite a sure.
One of the best players in the comp might not be a brilliant addition? Big footy at its finest.

He would run out as your best and most important player.

I don't think that is the case at all. Carlton has focused on their list with a more balanced approach then they did when Juddy was around but I do agree he is our marquee player.

IDK it was a good side with Judd and co.

Yet to be seen what cripps carlton final form is. Assuming he stays(?)

It was a good, but ultimately flawed side.

I think Cripps is in his final form (hoping his forward craft can develop though); it's the guys around him that will make the difference going forward (if he stays).

People said that about Tim Kelly last year, and that wasn't the case. He contributed to a good midfield with Gaff, Shuey, Yeo and Sheed (players he was meant to outshine) and was a solid contributor (if inconsistent).

Reality is West Coast is a role driven team.

Carlton, and even Geelong to a lesser extent are not. They have "star" players that they build their entire game plan around.

There is no guarantee Cripps would adapt, and despite the fact that Carlton under Teague is a cheap West Coast rip off in terms of game plan, there is no guarantee that he would thrive in a midfield full of other players who contribute in their own right, vis a vis Carlton where it is Cripps/Walsh and not much else.

I don't think you would find too many level-headed Carlton supporters who don't agree with this sentiment thus if Cripps does decide to leave after another average season we wouldn't begrudge him.

Surprised to hear an Essendon supporter say we overpaid for small defenders when Essendon valued their top 3 BnF required small defender at pick 8, which we paid...

Past record suggests you’ve over paid again to bring players into your football club.

Cripps is a much better player than Kelly. Much better than every player you listed above.

He adapts at any club and in any environment. You’re under rating one of the best players in the comp.

In the tigers Geelong preliminary final. Kelly was the cats best player by miles.

Cripps certainly isn't "much " better imho

Lol 1 game? Really?

3 b&f, 2 AAs, 1 Leigh Matthews trophy v 1 AA.

Younger - much better. Cripps was the best player in the afl in 2019.

It was one game but the 2nd most important game of the season. A level cripps may never play in let alone play well in.

I'm open to cripps being better cause he's a jet but it's not by as much as you think.

Kelly had 12 touches in the most important game the Eagles played last year.

Consistency makes you a great player.
