It's also about assessing the worth of the players. How much potential to improve do they have? Several young guys looked overwhelmed yesterday. Can they rise above an odd cameo performance to being regular solid contributors and/or provide some x factor. Then some of the older players are near the end of their careers. Then there is the group of highly paid or touted players not performing to expectation. And finally the group that contributes each week. Two disappointing losses in a row are sure to create some reassessment of expectations and focus a microscope on the performances of players.

Youve summed up a re-build year with that paragraph.

The older/fringe players not performing is our main issue. They offer no support for the younger guys.

WHE, Sidebottom , Madgen , Cameron , Wilson , Noble

Moore, Grundy , Adams , De Goey , Crisp are the ones that concern me with the up down performances who would all be on reasonable dollars.

Lipinski is a contributor and doesnt belong on either of those lists , as not paid big bucks and there is many more ahead of him who havent performed.

Lipinski is not bont
Kreuger is not Hawkins.

Where these elevated expectations come from is beyond me. Budget picks to supplement a weak list with no money or picks. Both playing their roles and performing well IMO.

Dont worry those same people overlook WHE's performances and class his value as him being a plug and play for any position. By that they mean , first year player numbers on a 10 year career player.

Because, as I said, it comes back to bite and when it does it can bring unnecessary pressure on the player. Going public about being pleased with himself after two rounds was premature. I want Lippa to succeed, and I want him to show up the Dogs - but on the field, not through talk.
I think you misread the interview , he was happy for the opportunity and wants to grow.

I’m going to get slammed for this, but is he a built Tyler Brown with better foot skills?

he’s a good player, we need more good players and less Brayden Siers
I don't think that Brayden Sier is getting the kind of support from Heidelberg footy club that he needs to make a bid for the AFL mid season draft. The team has already played 2 games, but the club is so inept that a game report with best players, even just a result, is not to be found on the club's web site nor indeed anywhere else. I imagine we have a talent scout almost permanently stationed at the club to watch Sier star in games and training, but the H club machine needs to stand behind his bid and get current information on him out there into the public domain.

It might be time to let the Bear go..

My view is Lippa is probably a bit of a victim around the generated hype from pre season and round 1. Vicky Park is on the money with her assessment.

To be fair to him some realism is needed. Entering his 6th season he was at the last chance saloon in a way even with his contract. 6 seasons into a career he has to be best 22 now. As he should have he attacked the pre season with more vigour than anyone. Giving himself every chance. We recruited his to be a best 22 type part of the mid rotation. When I was thinking of the level we wanted I was thinking our Phillips/Greenwood replacement not our Treloar/Stevo replacement. If he is better than that great but thats the level you call it a win.

Round 1 he goes really well and we all think maybe he is more than that. Next few weeks and he has probably shown a bit of why he struggled to hold down a spot at the Dogs. Still I reckon he is on course to be that win trade and be solid for us. Its likely to be as a 16-22 type players but we need those, especially in his age bracket.

No, but Kreuger could easily outperform Cox, Cameron and everyone’s current hot-button topic McStay. Not to mention he gets up the ground well, chases and tackles hard and can outkick the zone on a regular basis.

And doesn't play well without JDG and Adams? In other words, he is not an inside mid but an outside one who relies on the work of others to get use of the ball?
I do think he is better with better players around him (adams, tay -- takes the pressure off him). But also, the inside mid game is something he is still learning every day.

I'd have thought you are either born to be an inside mid or not. Can't see how you can really learn to be able to get first use of the ball other than having the courage, body and skill to do so.

Lack of opportunity I imagine is a good starting point. But I actually think he is better used as an outside mid; with his elite skills, and ball use. He is who you want the ball to be delivered to, rather being the hunt and grunt type like Adams.

He definitely adds something to our midfield, and has been and will be an excellent pick-up for us. Not super quick, but is a ball getter and great user. Has been quieter the past two weeks, but still playing his role, and hopefully gets a heap of it against Brisbane, because we are going to need all our mids playing at their best....
