I'm not sure people understand the role he plays. He isnt meant to be a de goey or an adams. He's your classy ball user that's important to any team. In this instance, its ours. What he brings we just dont have.

How quickly people turn when he isn't getting 30 touches a game like round 1. But sit back and understand his role, and you'll see its quality over quantity. He's still a young lad aiming to improve every day, just like our team as a whole. And as we get better, so will he.

End of story.

100% correct, the issue is that people don’t understand the different roles in the side. They measure everybody against the same metrics, stats are not the be all and end all either.

He’s soft as butter, but that’s the thing not many players are perfect and we certainly can no longer afford to pay everybody a minimum of 500k. He has a role, and he executes that well when others are doing there’s. We always struggle with Adams out of the side, he does so much around the contest. He’s Herculean, even if he can’t kick…only difference is Tay will make his contribution week in week out irrespective of who’s in the team. Lippa and others not so much…

I do not know why either Jen ,he has been very good , also his ave disposal % is around 55% by hand, 45% by foot ,not this 70% handball rubbish that someone posted. I am with you i think he is a very good pick up.

I think they were referring to his 6 kicks and 15 handballs against the WCE on Saturday.

Lipinski is a beautiful kick of the footy and he had 6 kicks 15 handballs against WCE. That kick to handball ratio is all out of whack. It suggests that while he's finding it on the inside he isn't finding enough space to kick.

Same Problem as Treloar.

Played Inside when more of a Outside Mid

Ok yep that is accurate, still though ,doesn't alter the fact that he was one of our better players in that game and in every game so far.

Teams are closing his space, I also noticed he doesn’t quite like the physical side of the game tends to get jittery.

Big Tick: Patrick Lipinski

The ex-Bulldog is taking his opportunity at Collingwood with both hands. He’s averaging 24.5 disposals, has a great balance between his clearance work and uncontested possession on the outside and can impact the scoreboard in attack, having kicked goals in three of his four games this year.

Yeah the timidness has shown up over last 2 weeks when he's been physically met. Hopefully he can work on it.

I think Lipinski may end up on a wing or flank when we develop some more on-ballers.

With our proper mids in, he's already starting half forward due to 6-6-6 then shifting into the midfield for general play - I think that's his go and will remain so unless he can really develop his inside game.

Yeah it's probably no coincidence Lipinski's best footy was rounds 1 and 2 where he was playing more as a flanker. His form isn't terrible on ball but it drops off. He simply isn't physical enough in there. You can't afford that in hot games or finals. I doubt he'll develop that physicality at his age so better to acknowledge it and play him in his best role if we can.

He wants to be Pendles - I suspect that was a big attraction to coming to Collingwood. Pendles did it for 14 or so years around stoppage. But noone, other than Nick Daicos, is as clean and thinks as quickly as Pendles does. I think Lipinski will be a good link man for us, but I don't think stoppage is currently his go. He's still young enough to develop a more aggressive edge though, so who knows down the track.

I think he's been great so far. Very good thinker and his disposal is good. He knows his role very well around clearances, provides good body positioning and can weave through traffic. Will only get better as the year goes on
Believe there was an interview where he says he has "a very clear role" which he is enjoying. To have one set position, would be nice for him. So while fans may be unsure of his role, he knows what he is doing. And he'll only get better in the years to come.

I'm not so sure you can develop an aggressive edge. It's ingrained that appetite to attack the ball and seek body contact.

Yeah but pendles maintains his composure when met physically and absorbs it, so far teh Lip has failed the test a couple times in games.

Pendles is amazing. The courage and confidence to stay relaxed and calmly scan the field whilst also keeping an eye on the blokes that are looking to dump you into the turf is pretty cool.

This is a brilliant point. Often see numpties bag his courage, which I find baffling.

Lipinski salvaged his performance with 10 disposals and two marks in Q4. Was underwhelming in Q1-Q3.

Needs to kick the ball much more often. Not making the most of his greatest strength.

He and Adams need to swap mindsets

Pendlebury used to play basketball has become a joke, but at the same time it's true in that most of his evasive tricks whilst still having vision down the field are a complete transfer from basketball. And there's a fair few blokes who could do what he does - on a basketball court - but throw in hard tackling and they all lose their nerve, really quickly.
