The beast is dead

:'(

The Beast lives!

took a month + to ship it back home, but it's running happily in my mum's kitchen

She hates it.

So that's an added bonus.

What was the issue?

Turns out the motherboard had shit the bed somehow,

To be fair, a few of the SATA ports had stopped working about 6 months prior so there were definitely signs.

(not that I was using onboard sata to begin with, never use onboard Sata controller for mission critical stuff!)

What is the beef about? HUB just posted a video with something about it in the title but I cbf watching it.

A video from LTT about their new testing lab had a drive by to other tech tubers from one of LMG's staff. It was actually in poor taste and Linus could have owned it, but instead he doubled down on the comment. HUB originally jabbed back a week or so ago but being petulant on Twitter isn't unusual for Steve/HUB. Now GN have fired back bascially pulling apart LTT, their inaccuracies, cash for comments and conflicts in interest when covering products.

Pretty fair assessment though. LTT/LMG stopped being decent a long time ago. Now they're just mostly paid advertisements, shitty unboxing/reaction videos and terrible memes. But I also don't bother too much with these channels outside of major generational hardware periods and don't care too much about all the talking head videos in between that they all seem to churn out to keep their view counts up.

This is in a nutshell.

I pretty much only follow level1techs nowadays.

Tech influencer turns out to be a douchebag, mind blown. They're all as bad as each other, everything they do is about maintaining their cash flow, and drama sells.

It's a shame because I don't think it was always this way. I used to sub to a lot of them and regularly watched their content. Now I don't sub to any of them and only search them around releases to fast forward to benchmarks.

LTT taking the cooling block prototype then 1. Not testing it correctly,
2. Shittcanning it after not testing it correctly,
3. Selling the prototype at an auction after agreeing twice to give it back to the supplier/maker is one of the worst things I've ever seen. What a scumbag of a business.

Shut up and buy a screwdriver!

Actually the latest LTT controversy was over a prototype water block for a 3090.

Linus tested it on a 4090 and refused to test it on what it was designed for. Linus slandered the company.

The company asked for their prototype back multiple times and instead Linus sold it at auction. Possibly to a competitor.

The small lab has lost its prototype and this has caused a developmental pause for the product. The costs are far deeper than the value of the individual item.

Supersuns summed it up nicely before me.

This is what irks me the most and I've mentioned it before.

The fact the benchmark graphs aren't available on the websites and aren't searchable/filterable.

Remember the Graphs on Toms Hardware?

I may be wrong about the following, but there was video I believe by GN, where they said there's no charts on the website, because the 'data is nuanced'. and you need to watch the video to understand it.

TechSpot has the HUB graphs (or at least did the last time I looked a couple of months ago), but they aren't interactive at all

Seriously? 😂 It couldn't possibly be that they aren't good at communicating...

I'm also genuinely concerned that LTT is a backer for the Framework laptop.

Seriously re-considering my pre-order.

LTT aren't a backer, it was Linus's personal money and not affiliated with the company.

Are we allowed to ask for recommendations in here? I need help.

Exclusively a console gamer, previously PS, now XBOX, but my gaming time has plumeted and my kids are taking over the consoles far more often.
I NEED to play Baldurs Gate on a PC (as well as a few others). But I have no ****ing idea what I'm looking at.

Home laptop is on the fritz also so need to replace something soon anyway so that will get me over the line with the wife for her needs and the kids with research/homework - all comes down to cost VS required specs.

Ideally I don't want to spend any more than $1500-$2000 plus a monitor, but as above i have no idea so would be looking at prebuilts.

Any and all advice is very welcome.

dwwaino is the one that can help.

I have no idea about PC building and I managed to put one together, there are acouple of good videos out there. Small amount of research and asking questions in here helped me put mine together.

Of course you’re allowed to ask!

Does your budget include the monitor in the $1500-2000?

What resolution are you wanting to play? 1080 or 1440p?

Apart from BG3 what others?

For example if you are looking at Starfield some AMD CPUs and GPUs currently have a promotion for a free copy.
