it stands out like dogs testicles that pelchen wants to get the best deal for spider and every club wants the best deal as well but if you play hard ball you may end up with bugger all, why do club feel that pelchan is playing hard ball and not willing to give something back, i hope that clubs tell him to bugger off!

Get over it mate. It is day 1 of trade week. Like any deal one starts high the other starts low and they eventually meet in the middle somewhere. I would be surprised if a fair deal for spider isn't worked out by the end of trade week.

Did anyone else see his interview on Channel 10 news?
His teeth remained clenched the whole time he spoke, it looked so funny.

born with the silver spoon in your mouth wont help you, you have to give if you want to get, stick that in your upper class clacker!

Sure he is playing a very dangerous game.

Hard ball is ok, if in the fullness of time, you get the desired result.

Does seem strange from an outsiders point of view that he wants a first round draft pick for Spider, who they are only prepaired to give a one year deal to. However at the same time Thornton is not worth a first round draft pick.

Lets wait till the end of the week and then judge him.

Remember this is the guy, who has bent North over the blocks the last two years, and given it to them and then watched them spit the cushion feathers out.

So he has form.

Haha, that was hilarious. I was hoping this thread would be about it. Reminded me of Gretel on Fox News U.S.

Spider is not worth a first round pick for sure but i think he is worth more than the 3rd round pick they were offering.

I think a second rounder for spider and then us giving 2 second rounders for thornton is about right.

Thornton is not worth pick 6 but worth more than pick 24.

Sydney have no chance of getting Spider if they don't trade for him. Far too many clubs in front of them in the PSD. So Hawthorn have the Swans over a barrell and he is entitled to ask for what he is asking.

Hahahaha yeah.He also has that sort of "cool" expression that tells you he probably says to himself, "I know who I am and guess what, my s**t don't stink". :thumbsu:

In the PSD a player can put a price on his head. So Everitt says he wants a 2 year $800,00 contract (supposedly what Sydney have offered him) and if a team drafts him in the PSD they MUST pay him that.

The problem with Pelchen (and Miller at Richmond) is that their egos cloud their judgement. Not only do they have to win every battle, but they laud it over the other negotiators afterwards. Admittedly most times it has been successful, but fewer clubs are now willing to trade with Hawthorn & Richmond as a result. With a bit of luck (and fortitude) Sydney and Carlton will face down Pelchen and he'll (and yes it's as much about him as it is Hawthorn) lose Everitt for nothing and miss out on Thornton. Then let's see if he's as gung-ho next time around.

What people keep forgetting is Thornton is a Carlton player.

We could lose out with the Spider deal but for pick 50 odd, we might as well make him walk to the pre-season draft. Spider is still a GUN ruckman, can u imagine him feeding the ball down to the likes of kirk-ablet-bolton etc like he has done with sammy & hodge.

Exactly right. Spider at Sydney will be a very powerful force. Spider at Carlton or some other average team effectively neutralises him as a threat for the rest of his career.

Unless we get a least a 2nd round pick, I'm perfectly happy for him to go into the PSD. Either way, we free up $400k in cap space.

He didnt look as funny as Roos did.
Roos looked all red in the face, like he was going to throw a kiddy tantrum and spoke like a spoilt brat that didnt get his own way.

Very funny.

I will take your word for that : So then why would you not want to sign this GUN ruckman for another two years.

Thats where you shot your self in the foot.

I really don't think it matters all that much who is doing the talking. It's what they are offering that matters.

Because if he gets injured in Round 2 next year we have a 33 year old ruckman no one wants yet we still have to pay for two years.

If he goes to Sydney and they are prepared to take the risk, good luck to them.

They may get 3 excellent years of service from Spida.
They may get a dud.

That's footy.

But at this moment, Spida is a very good ruckman.

Only if Sydney are desparate for him. If they are happy to walk away, Hawks get nothing.

FWIW, I think a late third round pick is too little. Wouldn't be upset if the Swans landed up trading their second round pick. And if a fringe player is thrown in for good measure, so be it.

But suggestions of a first round pick, or Malceski, are ridiculous.

Utter genius..

On Roos behalf yes.

Hawthorn threw up their one remaining smoke screen today and Sydney saw straight through it. Didn't Hawthorn think that Sydney would know what offers are on the table for Spida through his manager. No other club is going to throw up a second round draft pick for Everitt without speaking to him first and no one else has.

To throw up their last card this early into the week, Roos can now be confident that Hawhtorn will have to accept our third rounder or let him walk to the PSD where we the Hawks get nothing.

DST
:D

Miller and Pelchen did great jobs for their clubs with Ottens and Thompson trades. No one got screwed people knew what they were getting and they paid a price. Same goes for the Hay deal. Everyone knew what they were getting.

Agree Spyda in this draft is not worth a first rounder, and is more value to Sydney than pick 49. So really Pelchen is gambling on losing pick 49 so what.

Sydney would never pay him 1.6 million over 2 years, for a number of reasons. Firstly, to make him the highest paid player in a selfless society like 'the bloods' would fly in the face of everything Roos has tried to preach. It would undermine his message and cause friction without a doubt. Secondly it would create such an uproar in the media that Eddie and co might finally get there way and the AFL would seriously have to look at removing Sydney's salary cap benefits.
