Just on the article, I can only assume Pendlebury lives in Happyland in a gumdrop house on Lollipop Lane because there is absolutely no chance you would get trade a on the cusp midfielder to another side just because they were struggling to make the team. Unless of course you were trading him for Gary Ablett or the like.

It will be a sad day when teams start tanking for a round 11 draft.

Oh and for the thread Stevens > Swift > Stevens < Swift < Stevens

I'm all for mid season trades. Would make the middle of the season a heck of a lot more interesting. If a team loses it's best KPP's (like Carlton last year) then, in terms of premiership chances, they are f---ed and have no way of recovering.

The draft idea is interesting. The more player opportunities available, the better as far as I'm concerned.

Pendles isn't the only one who rates Stevens. Adam Selwood picked him ahead of Tom Swift at last week's press conference... seems like the coaches don't see the same value.

Huh? Swift has only played one game this year, Koby has played two and off the top of my head would have been an emergency far more often.

What on earth would be West Coast's motivation to trade him mid-season?

Why does everyone assume he is unhappy at West Coast and wants a trade? He has had a history of injuries and has struggled to string together fittness and form in the past. Maybe, he is intelligent enough to realise that he has things to work on at WAFL level and if he applies himself, he will get his chance? Maybe he realises that he is young and his career is all in front of him yet and if he stays at West Coast, he will more than likely enjoy the success that hard work and team work brings?

West Coast have a fairly good record in youth development, I am sure they know what they are doing in Stevens case.

Of course he could do a McKinley and ask for a trade for more opportunites, then never be seen again, even in a middle of the road team. Lots on this site were screaming when he was allowed to go and look how that turned out.

he's no doubt one of the more interesting guys on our list....

dominated WAFL and then comes into the team and has never really had a breakout match but hasn't really had the opportunity to given i don't think he's ever played 3 games in a row (??) and i'm certain he hasn't played back to back games in the starting line up which obviously makes it tough for him....

even though they play different roles i just can't see how a player like mcginnity offers more than stevens in any role??

played three in a row at the back end of 2010 when the team was totally shithouse.... didn't look out of place at all back then.

Thing that baffles me about Koby is he physically looks like he should be a gun, but when given the opportunity looks a bit lost.

Byron_Clanger - Your avatar is... interesting ;)

That's why he needs to be given atleast a few consecutive games, there is not good putting him in the team for 1 week then sending him back to the WAFL.... There are few players who can come into AFL level and just playing outstanding in their first game back.

Would love to see Stevens get a run of 5+ games in a row and see how he goes.

Same deal with Sheppard, this year he got the chance to play a few games in a row and now he is deleivering good peformances.

Same method will apply to Stevens.

I'd agree with this. He may have been on the list a few years but how many has he actually been fit and in form?

Fact is he's not in our 21 now and every week there is a third of the list that isn't. But he is in the next couple in line so his time will come if he keeps peforming. Don't want him to go, but if he does might as well be the year of a good draft.

Pendles also said about Naitanui

"I have no doubt in a few years time he'll be the best in the business"

Smart guy,

I don't have a problem with Pendles. He does seem quite knowledgeable and has a fair opinion on things, the article he wrote the other week on sliding and duty of care was very good to.

Is it at all surprising that Collingwood are now looking at inside mid options to see who is out there though? They have high hopes on sinclair who shows a bit but seems a year or two away, at least physically. Stevens would fit in well there. As would any of our midfielders in our current rotation. (IMO- Imagine Pendles, Thomas, Swan, sidebottom & shuey. ) Which in line is the problem. He just needs to keep putting the pressure on the guys in the squad, and he will get his chance.

I wouldn't blame him for seeking oppurtunities, i just know we will be letting Josh Kennedy Mark 2 go if we do.
