As long as they don't try and lock in another rugby game every September. That is so frustrating and annoying for the code that pays the bills.
So rather than fix it in the next, what, 6-9 months, you watch them let it drag on for political pot shot reasons.
They could easily scrap the design and do a sinple concrete bridge using the existing work to date. Add some leds that change colours, plop an art installation from an artist who had something in sculptures by the sea, and voila, its done
Only WA could stuff up a thing like this, its meant to be a bridge not an art project.
As someone who isnt in perth, wtf is going on with this bridge?
Cant they get the army or similar to erect a temp structure while this is completed?
Apparently the type of steel needed and scope of the engineering involved was too much for local firms, so the contract went overseas.
It is a typical Perth thing...
Buildings that are intended to be a landmark more than a mere building always tend to run over time and over budget, and cop heaps of criticism for it - eg.. Perth Arena.
Buildings that are designed and constructed for more practical purposes over aesthetics get slammed for being too dull and boring - eg.. Perth Convention Centre.
Can't win either way.
The Perth Arena was widely criticized before the final cladding which changed things drastically.
The Convention Centre is literally a tin shed and as such is an eyesore.
A much simpler design with cheaper construction would be more appealing.
Political types denial at play, aka its that other mob:

Maybe, but it's a brilliant facility. Even if it is facing the wrong way.
So is the Arena mind you, but the Arena did have a 200% cost blowout.

Horrible cheap looking building that's taken up absolute prime Perth real estate, the thing is a disgrace. It's still a tin shed that detracts severely from the view at Kings Park.
It has no design features whatsoever unless you call a lack of windows to the Swan River a feature.

That's all great and it wouldn't be so bad if it was tucked away over in near Northbride or something but it occupies an absolute prime spot at the bottom of the best views of Perth's skyline, the thing looks like junk and is an eyesore. That's the point though, it was a plain and simple design where the highest regard was given to it's actual function - a convention centre. To that aim it achieved it's objective, and it was broadly built on time and on budget. Start ******* around with the design and it can get complex - which adds time and cost.
