Which is why IMO royal blue seats (or similar blue to Perth Arena seats) would've worked well. Think about it, royal blue is an official colour of West Coast and would blend in really nicely with freo's purple haze merch and make both teams crowds look near full capacity. The good thing with this stadium I guess is that the scorchers games are going to look packed with the ochre to beige 'gradient' seats.

So why not purple as it is the official colour of Fremantle and would blend really nicely with the Eagles royal blue merch?

Would be great if the first derby could be half Freo members and half WCE members.
I suggested that on all the Port/Freo/Wc/Adel boards when AO was announced (asking about what the fan bases would think of 50/50 crowds)

90% of Adelaide/Freo/West Coast fans like the idea.
But Port fans went 'only if we get the southern end'
smh

Royal is a more generic yet different colour to most stadiums, it would look classy and wouldn't lean towards one particular sports team but relate to both. Purple seats (although would look cool) would be too much favouring towards one (or two) teams as only perth glory and freo use those colours. Besides, most eagles merch now is navy so it wouldn't exactly be bias towards the eagles. Royal blue is as close to navy as it is to the deep purple. Also royal blue against orange for the scorchers would be a great spectacle as those colours go pretty well together.

Is there any actual word on what this stadium would be called, or is it going to be named Perth Stadium? Sorry if it's a silly question but I'm just curious whether they have to wait until construction is finished before a sponsor (or something like that) can claim a name for the stadium.

Yep, Perth Stadium, Colin Barnett said he wont sell name rights, doesn't mean further Governments wont though.

What do you think about that? I've got no issue with it at this stage but why not get some money and secure a long term deal and get to call it something exciting. Perth stadium whilst it sums it up beautifully....would be a bit dull.

Personally I like it allows it to develop a bit of it's own identity similar to Subiaco Oval, for me thats what its always been and always will be called.
If its starts off as Rio Tinto Stadium then in 3 years becomes iiNet Stadium it may never gain a connection with some people.
Having said that I have no doubt name rights will be sold eventually, just not while Barnett is in control.

Is being named after a mining company or an internet provider or a fast-food chain etc really 'exciting'? It doesn't need to be anything more, goes well with Perth Arena anyway.

Each to their own, I don't mind Perth stadium all the same. Adelaide oval has a nice ring to it I suppose. Not to mention it's like a business name now with all the staff that work there wearing Adelaide oval clothes.

There is a school of thought that just the simple name will promote Perth from a tourism pint of view. Think of it as tourism Perth being the major naming sponsor. Every time they mention Perth Stadium they promote brand Perth.

name is simply Perth Stadium
if change in govt and other mob gets in, they may seek sponsorship and it could become (say) Coca Cola Perth Stadium or Pepsi Perth Stadium or Clear Cola Perth Stadium etc

I suspect that they won't call the new Perth Stadium "Adelaide Oval", as that name is already in use. ;)

Hate that with Oz.

Look at American NFL stadiums.

Or Australia's own Hindmarsh (Coopers) Stadium:

Obviously it doesn't work for a government owned multi team stadium though.

One thing you do notice is that even with sell outs, when people go up for say, to get food, when the seats blend in with the crowd, it you dont notice it as much.

80% capacity when the seats blend in look fuller than 90% capacity with a clash between seats and team colours.

You watch a Port Adelaide game with 80% capacity and the teal seats blend in with the teal gear worn by fans.
Yet it looks out of place and extremely noticeable at a Crows game, despite it being fuller.

The Caketin in Wellington is the worst for this no matter who's playing. Any empty seat stands out like dogs balls because it's bright yellow. And it's a ground that's hardly ever half full, let alone full.

Keep it clean, Perth Stadium, & when the SCG & MCG change their name due to a sponsorship with a falafel multi national, WA should consider should consider following suit - consider then reject. :thumbsu: Perth Stadium :thumbsu:

Not rreally comparable - I mean the MCG has only been the MCG since 1853. SCG has been the SCG since about 1875, Adelaide Oval has been Adelaide oval since probably 1871. Perth Stadiums traditions are rooted in what exactly?

Dont get me wrong, I approve of the Perth Stadium naming policy, but your comparison is ludicrous.

& Princes Park from 1897, then Optus, then what, then Visy, now Ikon .... where?

Didn't know tradition would enter the decision unless you have an axe to grind ..... more seriously during the Aus Open have a look at Melbourne plastered across centre court & think Perth Stadium.

Names like the Gabba, MCG, SCG and Adelaide Oval are held onto precisely because of their century + year old traditions. Perth Stadium has no such tradition to uphold and protect from commercialisation. Perth Oval has a greater tradition - even though it too sold out some years ago. And Melbourne Park also isnt comparable - wasnt built until 1988 (as Flinders Park).
