He isnt sorry.
A lot arent.
A lot still think we should assimilate and stfu.
Libs/RWNJ still don't get it.

Currently in the USA and Canada enquiries are being held regarding cultural genocide of thousands upon thousands of children.

Such sad stories.

Not only is Dutton a bigot he’s also an utter moron.

“Free Speech” is not giving both “sides” of anything “equal time”. The NRL can play whatever songs they damn like, and there’s no requirement to ensure an alternate song is also played. Unless Dutton’s government legally mandates that of course.

Macklemore also performed the song “Thrift Shop”, which warns against needing to buy a lot of material things to remain happy. I guess under the “Dutton standard” this promotes communism so therefore a pro capitalist song expousing the virtues of materialism should also be mandated.

“Same love” doesn’t even mention marriage, it’s solely about same sex attraction and tolerance.

It also includes this pearler which got you know who triggered:

The right-wing conservatives think its a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion

What a terrible and sneaky decision if true. Although pretty much expected from the likes of Sussan Ley. (Can't stand her nor schreechy Cash).

Sussan Ley, in one of her final acts as environment minister, removed the requirement for 176 plants, animals and habitats, including the Tasmanian devil and the whale shark, to have legislated plans designed to prevent their extinction.

Labor will reinstate them no doubt.

What song does Dutton have in mind?

The best I could find was an LBGTI protest song by a Malaysian Muslim metal band - not sure if a foreign Muslim metal band would satisfy the Liberals white bread policy though 🤷‍♂️

Doubt it gets people singing in the aisles either.

The fact no one writes songs about this shit kind of indicates it might not be all that popular 🤔

Agadoo, that's got a simple enough beat that even the breeders can dance in time.

This is the guy the Liberals think will bring them back to government? A troglodyte who wants to take us all back to the 1950s

After becoming Defence minister last year, Peter Dutton intervened to cancel an Australian Defence Force plan to give Australian military bases dual English and Indigenous names.

The Saturday Paper has confirmed that Dutton stepped in to reverse a then two-year-old plan to introduce dual naming of Australia’s main military bases. The change would have added local Indigenous-language names to the current English ones, as part of a policy working towards reconciliation.

About the same time, Dutton instructed Defence to stop pursuing “a woke agenda”.

Good on him (for a a change), Defence is massively underfunded already and whilst sounding simple would cost a lot if done properly. The new bases that we need should have indigenous names though.

Defence is a massively miss managed & wasteful concern.

Maybe sort that out first, than see whats needed?

So you can imagine how much dual naming bases would cost Defence? Maybe once as you say Defence gets its house in order and fixes all the opertaional gaps that the ever bloating Canberra has caused then they can spend time and money on nice to haves like this.

What Rot.

This has NOTHING to do with saving money. All it involved was installing plaques at bases. That process had already been underway for 2 years when Dutton became minister with plaques installed at 206 Defence sites to date and more to come. The cost was insignificant.

Meanwhile that same idiot has spent $5.5 billion on paying the French NOT to build submarines his own incompetent government ordered.

We've got those ocean going nuclear subs coming off the slipways in 2050, right - AND a study underway into where we might put them when we get them!

Meanwhile our main attack helicopters are grounded due to a lack of spare parts, our future frigates program is plagued by technical and capability issues and our coastal patrol vessels are basically unarmed and focussed on fishing incursions.

In the words of Greg Sheridan, the Morrison Government has left us with a defence force incapable of stopping an invasion of penguins.

But hey - good on Dutton for stopping our Defence Department from adding Indigenous names to bases. Hundreds of dollars saved for each base. WOW!

I thought you were joking at first.

Perhaps you can put a figure on the sign writing?

He didn't do it for the right reason but it was the right call. It should cost hundreds per base which would be doable but it would actually cost tens of millions once consultants are brought on board, consultation forums held, decision papers raised, signs changed, templates pub's etc all updated, ceremonies held

A better approach would be to name new bases for the local group and over time change places like Laverton to the local group rather than some shallow dual name that will just be ignored. Need to cull thr bureaucracy first.

Search up Eddie Cocwa.

ICAC myself laughing when that gets investigated.

Industrial scale corruption involving former soldiers, former Federal police, all Liberal party conmen, foreign Government corruption and at the centre of it Peter Dutton.

Dutts is just an old softie

I have provided more detail in my other resposne but my mistake was thinking they were actually trying for proper recognition not just a plaque that will be ignored.
Your response is incorrect and woefully uninformed. Reflecting pre-held prejudices rather than facts.

For the record, the program to change base names to reflect the indigenous history of their location is a small but important part of the latest iteration of a comprehensive Defence Reconciliation Action Plan that first started under the Rudd Government and is now in its 15th year.

This paragraph from the 2019-22 D-RAP provides an understanding of its intent:

The Department of Defence has made great strides throughout its reconciliation journey, and has remained dedicated to developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, peoples, and communities. In 2018, the Department spent over $455 million with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, and had 605 contracts.

In this Stretch RAP, the Department of Defence has committed to being further guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, and aims to research the impacts of its past policies and relationships with First Nations peoples. The Department does this with a view to learn and grow from history while being transparent.

Why Dutton decided to dump this particular low cost component of D-RAP for a Department that last year spent almost $50 Billion of taxpayers money is anyone's guess. But I suspect he, the guy who walked out of the apology to the stolen generations, just got triggered by thought of one of his agencies recognising indigenous culture. And cutting this little sub program was away of signalling to his far-right supporters where he stood on the issue without getting called out publicly for it (until now).

In particular Dutton's response came shortly after the mass publication of facebook posts in 2019 like this which, using false facts and inflammatory language with references to ANZAC history and culture being trashed, expressed outrage at the suggested changes in both Indigenous place names being used and the Indigenous flags getting equal place next to the Australian flag:

BTW that particular misleading facebook post was published on September 12, 2019, which has been shared more than 690 times and received 1.6k outraged comments after being published by a Facebook page with more than 4,000 followers including a host of MAGA supporters by Paul Anforth, who describes himself as a proud 'Veteran and Police Pensioner happily living in the Philippines'. Follow the dots to what happened next.

Responding in such a targeted and petty way is yet another demonstration of just how soft this Peter Dutton guy is. But not in the way he would like everyone to think he is.
