Is this for real? He's been headhunted for a job and he's taken a couple of interviews! So if he turns them down or misses out we should get rid of him anyway because his presence might destabilise the group? Are you serious? I re-read this post twice to make sure you weren't joking. Some of the hysteria surrounding this is just crazy.
So if Bolton misses out on the job should Hawthorn get rid of him because they're a family club?
Hysteria? Please! Purely a comment about potential implications, albeit a bit negative. For mine, if he gets the job, then good luck to him. You can not escape the fact that there may well be some negativity to the outcome if he does not get the job and stays. To think otherwise is burying your head in the sand. I never said we should get rid of him. I believe the club will be conscious of the possible impact on coach to player relationship and manage it.

Should we get Jared Brennan to talk to him, sound him out. A bloke that struggled connecting with his playing group perhaps we could get him and sando as a package.
Don't be silly, Jared Brennan can't form sentences.

Point taken though, he was the first that came to mind. I don't like how sacked coaches are dragged through the coals and rarely heard from again, Mark Harvey for instance. Is he still and Assistant up in Brisbane, I know he was running his own business or something.

I don't think McKenna is all that much chop. And I'm not even sure he and Ken get along. From all reports he was pretty poor at communicating with the players.
IF we lose Phil Walsh I'd like to see us make a pitch to Lenny Hayes.
That would get us a lot of 'Melbourne Jock Media' support.... they froth over that bloke.

He seems to have a great football mind, and has always been an inclusive, driven and inspirational leader, which fits the Ken mould. Would he need a few years in a lesser role to develop though, Phil IS a pretty integral part of our coaching unit.

I think he has the right "I am the law, dont **** with me" persona to get a group of players thriving underneath him. I still think coaching is all about respect and he'd have that from a playing group. As has been said, I dont know how he'd go with having to be the face of a club, daily interviews, a salesman, a marketer etc. I think i've heard him have 2 interviews in 12 years.

The reason why Hinkley is a great coach is because he's got that persona but it's tempered with a paternal 'I'm looking after these kids for their parents, how would I want my kids to be treated' attitude. Anyone can be a hard ass, but you need to do it out of love for you players and not just out of the desire for success.

Adelaide is going for Walsh because he's a great midfield coach, was involved in West Coast's tactical development and his experience will entice Dangerfield to stay. Their ideal scenario is putting someone like Dew or Bolton in the head coach position as the face of the club and then Walsh as senior assistant.

If he wants to go take up a role there, let him. It just reinforces that the Crows have no idea what their actual problem is. Travis said at the B&F that he doesn't have to really do anything as a captain because each player is driven to succeed and he knows that ultimate success is right around the corner. I don't think you could ever say that about the Adelaide list. There's some talent there, but they are waiting for some guru to drag it out rather than doing it themselves.

I've always wondered why, when Richardson left, Walsh wasn't just moved into the SA/HoC role he vacated, even though he was the most qualified. Maybe he has some failings that aren't suited to that kind of role?

Perhaps he would need some on the job training but he'd be a good person to have around that midfield anyway. Walsh was obviously much more than just a midfield coach. He was a sounding board for Ken too. Anyone who attended a lot of Magpie games this year would have seen Walsh and Ken standing together a lot on the balcony.

If Walsh does head for West Lakes do we see if Bassett wants a gig in our coaches box. Doesn't seem like the most affable fellow but you cant question his coaching record.

**** I love this group and this club, they continue to impress even when the season's over! #graypride

We get caught up with Names when searching for new ppl though don't we? If Tommy Toolbar from the Western Warriors is the best strategist out there it's him we seek.

Nah. Bassett has an enormous ego. I'm all for differences of opinion in the coaches box but I get the feeling he'd be undermining the senior man for personal gain. He hates us too.

My mate who plays for Norwood would've run through a brick wall for that bloke, but I know a couple of the other players weren't the biggest fans of his c**tish attitude. I think our squad is built on self determination and mateship, personally I don't think Basset's confrontational style sits well with the dynamics Ken has fostered over the last 24 months.

Ken would know countless people in the industry. Who ever heard of Aaron Greaves before he arrived? Who expected Shaun Hart to turn up on our doorstep?

Assistant coaching is the most overrated industry in football. They are there to implement the coach's ideas and be a sounding board for his strategic thoughts. Ken runs the show at Port, he will find someone he can work with who will give him some perspectives and the good ship Port Adelaide will continue to sail under him.

If anything this could be a good learning position for a new assistant.

Not every coach is a clueless Sando who desperately needs a tactician to help him out.

We are in an industry with 17 enemies. 18 if you count the snafl. The crows are no more or no less an enemy than any other club. Their proximity to Alberton distorts peoples views.

People talk to people from other clubs all the time.

Should Gold Coast sack Ablett because he rings Ken for advice?

I used to hate the Crows with every living breath, but now I don't see them as a threat in any shape or form, so I wouldn't say I hate them anymore. More concerned about the likes of the Hawthorns, Sydneys, Fremantles and Geelongs of the competition these days.

Anyways, Walsh won't go to the Crows unless he gets the top job, and if he does, good on him. He's worked hard and he's earned it.

Everyone said Richardson was irreplaceable last year, and look how season 2014 worked out.

We'll be 'right.

All I know is that Walsh was recruited as the midfield coach, and provide tactical assistance, well before Richardson went to St Kilda. When Richo left, he was more or less replaced. Maybe there was a specific plan in place and they wanted to continue with it, especially as Richo left very late. Changing plans so late may have caused problems. I also think replacing Walsh would have been a lot more difficult.

pastmyprimus mentioned this to me the other day but isn't it funny that when Port were looking for a coach it was Mark Bickley this Mark Bickley that from cRowie, but when it's the crows they wouldn't piss on Bickley if he was on fire. Cone mover.

Great footy brain and that's definitely a huge asset.
But his negative is he likes to be in control and across everything... and apparently isnt a great delegator....
Has had massive falling out with bomber.

Don't you know that the cows have higher standards and expectations. Good enough for us but under for them. As always, I am prepared for the next coach to be the second coming and if it's Walsh how they got one over on us.
