So does that make it:

Rioli + Future 2nd
for
Smillie + Norf 1st?

Rioli, M. Whitlock and 2025 (Pick 19)

For Smillie and 2025 (Pick 2).

It’s not a horrible deal for north - although not great. It is a great deal for us though.

If north finish bottom five as do we, they’ll have two high second round picks which should have added value noting point matching rule changes from 2025.

They should be able to get back into the first round with those picks, but can’t see it being anywhere close to where it would it’s own pick would land next year.

What to me is weird is that they stood on principle about not underselling pick 2, but massively undersold it’s F1 for a pick in the late 20s.

Even in the worst case scenario, two first round picks enables you to potentially move up to the pointy end if either don’t fall there.

Blair does it again.

Hard not to see this deal being one of the best the clubs made in years - Nth, Nth Nth - how many times do you need to hear that rebuilding teams NEVER trade their future 1st. tsk tsk. Lots of pressure on Whitlock, they must rate him ( & themselves) very highly. Can someone confirm is he 199 or 197cm? I have not followed any of the rookie stuff at all so all these blokes are fresh to me - they have him touted as a 197-199cm & his highlight package was pretty dull for a big fwd/bck prospect & he still had that "too tall" kid awkwardness about him. Nth supporters must be sorrow-wanking their nuts off atm.

Even if they do shock everyone and make finals or even win the flag, they got a terrible return on a Future 1st rounder when you consider that since 2017 they have finished 15th, 9th, 12th, 17th, 18th, 18th, 17th, 17th.

If i had to guess, i would say the pick will land somewhere between 7-12th - I think Nth do have a big leap in them. But i wouldn't be overly shocked if it landed around 2-5 either.

Irrelevant of whatever the picks turn into etc - its a homerun move for me. I thought going into the draft we were way too loaded with 2024 picks & getting 2025 picks made a lot of sense. I think the club should trade all their existing picks with some of their own future 2nds, 3rds etc to try and get another likely future "mid-late" first if possible, that would allow for the same process to be repeated each year to ensure we always have 1 extra 1st rounder along with our own.

For Nth, brave strategy Cotton, lets see if it pays off. If it doesn't your clubs lack of competency and market strength is actually beginning to remind me of "end of days" Fitzroy. There was a time when losing any original VFL Club seemed to be impossible and a national tragedy - but i think a lot of AFL fans these days would go "meh". I think if you asked most AFL fans - If you could only have 1 of Nth or Tasmania in the AFL - i reckon most would take Tassie without much 2nd thought.

I cannot believe this deal How the F*** did we give up a F2

Surely we could of held out and given a F4 :D :D :D :D :D

Just kidding

Thanks for 2025 pick #4 NorF

Now that our defence & Foward line are set we can get Sharp & Rodriguez.

NorF is the gift that keeps giving we should get LDU as a free agent next year to give them a pick back
