Analysis Pick Mitch Harvey now, not in 2017!!

How'd he go on the weekend? Raw stats from the weekend don't look too impressive, but his numbers season-wide look fine.

No-one wanted Butch to be in the AFL side this year till he had done a lot in the SANFL so what's different with Harvey? He's just come back and he doesn't really have any form demanding inclusion. Although I was even more surprised to see Jesse Palmer named, if only as an emergency.

The Roos have Ben Brown from the same draft in their team, in fact he started in 2014 but he looks much more imposing on the field.

Another year without AFL KPF development. Schulz is over the hill. We have no genuine tall forwards though Ryder has really shown to be a force there and Westhoff is an option but we won't use him there and he's not a premiership standard KPF.

Play Harvey. Play Butcher. Who cares who it is, just play them!

I reckon Harvey will get a game shortly, Hartlett said something about looking to the future for the rest of the year after the game... maybe they've been told

I take it you have sometimes had opinions that most people disagree with. The point of a forum is to compare opinions, not just go along with the popular opinion.
I was objecting to you saying 'No-one wanted Butch to be in the AFL side this year till he had done a lot in the SANFL' when that's not true, plenty of us believe that the expectation on Butcher's performance in the SANFL is too high.

Harvey was 18 when he was drafted, Brown was 21. So Brown was physically closer to that imposing frame to begin with.
Having said that I don't like that Hinkley gifts games to the smaller guys more than the big guys.

I have heard on the grapevine via connections to Harvey - not Port - that the coaching group believe Harvey is AFL ready but politics and sensitivities have prevented him being picked.

Now we cant make finals there are no more excuses. If someone's nose is put out of joint then bad luck. Harvey is our 10 year future not 2015 rest of season or 2016 future like others. Pick him.

If that is to be interpreted as 'administrative forces' outside the football department are involved then that is of major concern.

Too cryptic for me.

Wow, interesting.

I've heard the complete opposite.

I've been told they don't rate him, they don't think he will make it as an AFL player and that's the reason he hasn't been given games as yet.

Nothing to do with fitness or structures, just plain talent. To be fair, nothing I have ever seen from him says AFL footballer to me either. So who knows.

Be interesting to see what happens these next few weeks.

I call bullshit. KT isn't that sort of bloke and Kochie wouldn't be involved. Sounds more like Chinese whispers. Could be as simple as being told they think he's ready and he needs to wait for an opportunity.

Shame he couldn't get near it today in a 10 goal win against a bottom team.

Would have been great if he got a few goals and some hitouts.

Heavily marked by more than one defender all day and played very deep in the forward lines. North flooded fairly well and quick. Most of our damage was done around the 40 to 50m line. Butcher played well at chb but was moved next to Harvey and had lesser impact so it had a lot to do with North's defensive bottling of space.

I am tearing my hair out at this.

Not just because of our horrendous failure to blood and persist with developing key forwards, but because of the namby pamby care bear attitude we have towards our prima donna players this year which is a huge part of the reason we're ****ing shit.

If it's about our unwillingness to drop Lobbe, which I suspect it is, I'm angry enough that I'd be happy enough for Hinkley to be replaced. Teams take on the personality of their coach, and our marshmallow coach is coaching a marshmallow team in 2015.

What possible 'politics' could be involved? Pretty obvious IMO that they aren't convinced at all with his fitness.

We're either being weak on another player by not giving Harvey a go due to "politics", or we're weak on Harvey by lying to him.

Weak.

What? Another shit draft pick. Judging by everyone's comments, we have had two good draft selections in the last 5 years, wines and wingard, ant that was luck. Sack our scouts.

The same coaching panel that has given a slew of games to Gray, Mitchell and Stewart over the past 2 years.

Butcher seems to have put together a solid month in defence. I'd consider a small contract or rookie spot if he finishes the season in similar vein.

When i heard politics - first thought that popped into my head was not wanting to drop/rest Shulz knowing his contract status. Second was Paul Stuart selection when Ryder was injured due to his contract status. Hope it is niether of these.

Ok now that would make sense in regard to the 'politics'.

Even so he has hasn't banged the door down. I'm not against picking him or giving him a chance given the ****ed up state of this year, but there is enough question marks there to justifiably not pick him.

I don't get this either. Anti-ranga?
