You would be happy with a loss under a goal just so you could hear people say " oh they still played well just unlucky" ? if thats what you seek then you are easily impressed, collingwoods loss was terrible, the dogs is no better because they got closer though.

Well, it kind of was. The dogs kept trying and were at least competitive while Collingwood folded like little bitches and went quietly into the night.

Having experienced both varieties recently, I very much prefer to see my team fight it out to the last second and be able to look the competition in the eye, rather than the meek, embarassing surrender I witnessed tonight.
Sounds about right.

North Melbournes 94 effort was way better than the 2007 loss.

I know they weren't PF's but I was more heartbroken after our SF lose to Sydney in 2005 than the GF loss last year, so in terms of grief I'd pick Collingwood.

I find the amount of experience one gets from a close final like that is huge. Bulldogs know now they can almost beat the best (and probably should have.) Collingwood well... they have nothing to take from that game. Thats the way I see it.

Its the age old question- a nail biting loss, or a flogging?

Personally, I reckon the close losses are more painful and hurt for longer.

In retrospect, Collingwood were not really in the running- they got comprehensively beaten in their QF, scraped by Adelaide by the thickness of a bee's proverbial, and got smashed off the park in the PF. They don't really have anything to be too distraught about, because no way known were they good enough to play off in the Grand Final.

In contrast the Bulldogs will look back on this season and know that had lady luck smiled on them just a tiny bit, they would be playing in a Granny. I hope for they sake some good fortune is just arouund the corner, but until that happens, their loss will just sit as one of those horrible, kick in the guts results where your team was good enough to win but didn't.

I have been to 6 Bulldog preliminary final losses.

Three have been "heartbreakers". 1985, 1997 and this year. They are by far the hardest to live with.

In 1992 and 1998 we were crushed by far superior opponents, and they hury a lot too.

Last year probably hurt the least, as it was a good learning curve for most of the team.

I would just like to see 1 preliminary final win in my lifetime though. Losing sucks!!!!

I would prefer a WB style loss. Yes, they hurt more than a flogging (04 port more than 08 hawks for example) but I'd always prefer that my team actually made a contest out of it, and looked like deserved prelim finalists.

Showed a lot of heart last week against the crows so thats an odd statement, i think we were just out classed by more experienced players.

As someone said, too many passengers from the older brigade coupled with about 5 or 6 young guys is never going to help you beat a top side like geelong.
They beat St Kilda?

50/50

in the short term the collingwood loss I would prefer so it wouldn't hurt as much & they were lucky to make it if it wasn't for a brain fade from rutten.

In the long term after it stops hurting I'd prefer the bulldogs loss after you had time to digest it you realise how well they performed in a game they weren't expected to win & they were beaten by a better team but took it up to them. If the bulldogs had of been the favourites different story on which loss you prefer.

As a Cats fan I feel for you, this year was the Bulldogs time to make it even though Saints were favorite. Hopefully Bulldogs are up there next year and make it, also I remember when Bulldogs lost against Cats last year everyone was saying they need a a full forward etc, hopefully you get one. . I know it must hurt, I can see it..

It doesn't stop hurting when you barrack for a team like the bulldogs. We carry these for a long time.:(

To be honest, I'm glad we were outclassed. It shows the playing group that there is alot of work to be done, rather than losing by just a goal and them thinking they're nearly there.

As a supporter a loss is a loss, and losing a prelim is a terrible feeling.

Doggies for sure. First of all, it is at least good to be gallant in defeat. Secondly, at least they can hold on to next year, particularly if the get a FF, they know they will be in with a good chance. Collingwood fans on the other hand know they would likely just be making up the numbers (or at least they should know now)...

Not as bad as losing a GF I think...

I'd have to say the Bulldogs result- there are many more positives to be taken out of it...

It's all history now but I would say the Bulldogs were by far the better team on Friday - all key indicators spelt it out - but somehow they lost.

Yeah, you kind of missed on the most important indicator, the SCOREBOARD!! You guys have a forward line that can't handle finals pressure. Until you fix that, you will never get to the big one, let alone win it.

There's not much difference. Dogs lost & their window is almost shut with Akermanis & Johnson, their 2 highest goalkickers 1 year away from retirement.

If anything, a bigger loss would have better for their own reality, they won't win a flag with this setup & a close loss ensures they target a Barry Hall/Lloyd type meaning it's all or nothing next year.

Time will tell. However I'll disagree with you about our premiership window. I reckon it will be open for 3 years after this one. Not so confident about Collingwood's though.

Our window hasnt even started yet. Finishing top 4 was above expectations in my opinion.
