Our mid/fwd stocks are dominated by short people, but you want to take out the 187cm 90kg mid/fwd who is 3rd best in the league at a position he's never played before last year (one we have been needing for years now) and who has both the physical and mental attributes to become a player like Ling, for someone like Kennedy?

Kennedy's way into the team is through Blair's position and Freeman will take Daisy's old position on the wing. I feel like Broomhead and Fasolo are in competition for the spot that Dwyer played last year and I'd put my money on Sweeps for that (I like Fasolo coming off half back as that long kicking, precision play maker).

So is Cloke, but I'm not sure it adds anything to the discussion, you do realise Ball and Caff play different roles, don't you?

It not about the roles they were playing it was about delisting Caff or Ball because they got injured. Cloke has nothing to do with this so why bring him up.

What is wrong with short people. Only our key position players need to be tall. And I never said I wanted to take out Caff I said I wouldn't be surprised if he fell behind in the pecking order. And Kennedy is a better goal kicker than Caff and is most likely faster than Caff as well. And we won a premiership without a tagger, why do we need one now?

I think his point is that Kennedy won't be coming in at the expense of Caff, and if he did it would be a real blunder because Caff adds something to the team that we are missing and he is pretty goddamn good at it to boot! As for the bolded part, have a look at Round 17 2013 and that'd be your answer.

You can't can't say Ablett won them the game, Goldcoast as a team beat Collingwood as a team. Caff dosen't win every battle. Its can't be assumable that as soon as Caff goes in the team he will imediantly shut down his opponent. Caff could have a few bad games and be dropped. I don't think Caff gets selected because he is Caff, and i'm pretty sure he knows it too. I think he is in our best 22 so far, but if he has a few poor games and Kennedy in the VFL really lights up, I won't be surprised at the least if Kennedy overtook Caff.

Geelong won three premierships with a tagger!

Tagger/defensive mid/defensive forward, call him what you like. A player like him is essential to our future. Hes also a very strong one on one mark and a good tackler, and a reasonable kick. Potentially he could play a pure defense role too. He has a few strings to his bow.

Came bloody close to it. Reduce his possessions, increase the pressure on each possession he does have and it may well have been a lot closer. Such a dominant individual performance is always going to raise the tagging issue.

Kennedy Martin Blair Fasolo Freeman Dwyer Sinclair will be battling it out for the last 2-3 spots in our best 22, either in that small forward role, on the bench doing midfield rotations, or on the sub bench. Maccaffer will be selected ahead of all of them most weeks, mostly in the tagging role, but he will be asked top perform other tasks as well. Elliots probably ahead of them all, too.

Their other midfielder would have picked up the slack.

Caff successfully tagging a player who ran unchecked and racked up 49 possessions, 2 goals and 10 clearances absolutely would have made an impact - whether or not we would have won is semantics. If we have no negating player in the team it gives us absolutely no option to tag even if we wanted to, and that's Caff's value right there. Kennedy won't take Caff's spot, full stop end of story. If Kennedy takes anyone's spot it'll be Blair, Dwyer or Elliott's even.

If Caff plays a few bad games in a row you can't see him dropped. Caff isn't rated that high.

One would hope any player on the list is replacable after a few bad games...Pendlebury Swan and Cloke probably the only exceptions, as they are proven guns and could be expected to work through a bad patch in the seniors.

Do you think next time we play the Suns that Ben Kennedy should tag Ablett?

The only players really guaranteed of maintaining a spot regardless of form is Pendles, Swan, Cloke and Reid IMO. Everyone else can and should be dropped if the formline is that bad. If Caff is dropped, I would expect Karnezis to be given a run, or as a way for Williams to be trialled in the midfield.

Caff is a bit underrated because he doesn't particularly excel at one facet of the game, but he is good or above average in many. He has a tidy kick, good straightline pace (though poor agility/lateral movement), very strong hands and a great 1v1 player.

He will always be a 18-22 type player, but still in our best team. He is still flexible enough to play on the forward flank as a medium marking/defensive forward if the midfield gets crowded, worked in 2010.

I will even say that barring serious injury, he will come close to reaching 150 games in the B&W. So I definitely envision him in our next premiership tilt.

If the hash tag is a snipe at Bucks, he has learnt nothing. This is the type of shit Bucks put up with over the two years.

Poor effort from Shaw. Brains of a fish.

Interesting that you bring this up, because it does remind me of a seemingly innocuous incident from last year.

There was a CTV video during the Queen's Birthday weekend last year where Shaw was asked what his favorite birthday cake was. Shaw responded (in quite a mockingly arrogant tone, in my view) "McDonalds ice cream cake... Vienetta, with chocolate cookies dipped into it, with Oreos and Smarties and deep fry it."

Now, normally I'm not one to take players to task for their sense of humour, but this came just a couple of weeks after Shaw was dropped for allegedly returning to training in an unsatisfactory physical condition (the so-called "skinfolds" fiasco). With that particular saga still fresh in the air, surely the sensible thing to say would have been something deadpan like "no cake for me, mate" and wink at the camera, or something like that. Better yet, just not appear in the video.

When you look at this tweet and that video in the context of Shaw's reported attitude problems under Buckley, it does seem a little like Shaw giving Buckley a bit of a clip...

Having said all that, good luck to him at GWS.

Think your being way too harsh there. Shaw is a guy who makes lots of jokes, he has always struggled with skin folds, not an attack on bucks at all.

Heath is a great footballer, but not that bright judging by the betting incident and incident with Dids.

Have said it a number of times, but i can't see his time going well with GWS, at least initially. If he snaps within our backline, what will happen there? Will be interesting to watch, at the very least.

However, I wish him all the best and he is always welcome back.
