Johnson & Okorafor full participants at practice and will play week 1. Not confident we get close enough to the Bengals but keen to see how our offence performs nonetheless. Ben handicapped us massively these past couple seasons with not much more than dump offs, screens & check downs. Keen to see how all our receivers perform with someone who can actually stretch the field. Excited to see Pickens in a meaningful game with an expanded role and also how Harris performs in his second season. Tomlin has had a lot of time to prepare for Burrow and this Bengals offense, let’s see how we fair

Great game, great win. Edge of your seat stuff and it had literally everything. Massive sour note with TJ going down in what looks to be season done. Makes today feel like a loss to me…
Defensively we couldn’t have been much better. Played physical, played fast. Stepped up in the key moments. Impressed with Highsmith’s game, but with TJ now sidelined the attention will no doubt shift more towards him, let’s see how he answers. Offensively it looked once again pedestrian to me bar a couple plays here and there. Makes me wonder was last season more Ben, or Matt Canada’s fault? We aren’t going to have 5 takeaways every week to save our bacon. I’m concerned on what we can achieve on offence going forward, especially if Najee is out

Something that cannot be overstated either is Trubisky’s athleticism. The main reason why I looked forward to him coming in with Ben gone was the added elusiveness we get from the bloke under centre. On that final drive where he was able to escape Hendrickson and find Freiermuth down field setting up the game winning field goal was absolutely clutch. Ben sure as sh!t was not making that play, in the last few seasons anyway

Trubisky wasnt very good today tho.
No he wasn’t, missed some throws and got very lucky when scrambling for that first down that Hendrickson didn’t knock it loose from behind. He had no awareness that someone was behind him, just strolled forward toward the sideline when he had every chance to get down the field and really make use of those legs. I would have been calling for Kenny straight away had that ball been set free and Bengals recovered

Tomlin said pickett WILL BE backup all year, learning the ropes. I both understand/agree and dislike that proclamation. At leas be open to it "if"

Is that so? I haven’t heard/read that. Find that hard to believe. What happens if we are staring down a 3-7 start to the season, Mitch hasn’t done much and the offense in general has been poor? I’d hate for us to red shirt Kenny under ANY circumstance and label him as a 2022-2023 backup Tomlin. Time will tell

We’re starting as underdogs this week v Patriots, am I missing something? I know we have a couple of banged up players- And TJ is a MASSIVE loss, and there’s every chance this is a let down game after a big win over a divisional rival week 1 but New England looked awful last week. Mac Jones is banged up himself and their offence hasn’t gotten anything going since the pre season started-This side of the ball was also a problem all through camp for them too. Maybe I’m being a bit biased, but I’m surprised to see us as home dogs against this New England team of all sides. I don’t think they are that good at all….

That game was tough to watch this morning. Just brutal.

No pass rush whatsoever without TJ, like literally none. Jones had all day back there to throw the ball. A crucial muffed punt killed us and gave NE great starting field position, but only after Sutton dropped a gimme interception on the same Pats drive. A bad play by Witherspoon on the ball with Agholor of all players coming over the top and Mossing him right before the half for the Pats TD certainly didn’t help the cause.
As I touched on after last weeks game, it looks as though the offensive struggles weren’t all Bens doing the previous couple of seasons. It seems this Matt Canada run offense just doesn’t cut the mustard with all these throws underneath and misdirection etc. The Kenny chants were loud today at home, but he won’t solve any of the above issues. After such a promising start against the Bengals a week ago we lowered our colours today. With games against the Browns & Jets to come (who are both very winnable) I feel we could be staring down a bad record quickly if we lose these games, with games to follow against the likes of the Bills, Bucs, Dolphins and Eagles before a bye. It’s a very real possibility we are 1-7 at the bye week

Trubisky is the problem imo. Hes a flatliner. Doesnt provide sparks, no playmaking ability, thus offense lackluster and team has to rely on D to keep scores down. Reckon Pickett should be the starter, hes got more chutzpah, can make things happen.

Trubisky’s throw to Johnson over the middle where he got intercepted was deflating to say the least. Never looked off the defender. Trubisky had eyes for Johnson the minute the ball was snapped and never looked elsewhere, easy pick. The sack he took from Judon when scrambling to the far sideline was just a head scratcher too. Why not throw it away? Why not air it out downfield and see what these bigger receivers (Claypool/Pickens) can do? See what magic and spark it could have provided maybe IF a play was made. He’s a very vanilla QB and our defense won’t get 5 takeaways each week to bail him out-Just as I pointed out after our Cincy win. Like you touched on, we need some spark, some wow moments. When watching other teams play offense I’m sitting there just wishing we had a fraction of the play calls/throws that everyone else seems to have. It’s tough viewing, it really is

Yeah those are just two plays from today, tho there were a lot more really. Week 1 and 2 it's obvious to everyone but Tomlin that Trubisky is merely a capable backup. I would've not even signed him as we already had Rudolph who is similarly capable (ie, incapable).

Week 3 almost upon us for us Steelers. This is a very winnable game no doubt about it. I’m expecting a heavy dose of Chubb/Hunt running the ball so our run D needs to stiffen up. No Clowney for the Brownies helps our OL who surprisingly haven’t been too bad to start the season, both in pressures/sacks conceded and penalties. It’s time to see Trubisky target a few more players deep to back the defense up, start using Pickens more and attack the middle of the field more often. How much any of that happens tomorrow on a short week is anyone’s guess. An interesting game coming up, if we don’t slow down their run game, it may be a long day

Think it'll be a close game given both teams' weaknesses (at QB especially). The real battle will be between Cade York and Chris Boswell for most FGs and/or least FGs missed.

Definitely. A close game and a low total I’m expecting

A bad loss the other day. We slip to 1-2.

Positives

There were some nice plays from Trubisky, especially in the first half. It was good to see some deep shots taken also instead of everything underneath. Harris ran the ball a bit better than the first two weeks and once again the OL continued to not sh!t the bed-Daniels had a great pancake block in the red zone which helped set up a TD on the following play I think it was…
Warren continues to impress in pass protection and had a great little catch and run from Trubisky which was called back due to a penalty. I loved Devin Bush’s rookie season, but since the ACL injury he has been garbage. Against the Browns he looked better and recorded his first double digit tackle count since week 1 last season I believe. His stop of Kareem Hunt at the goal line was nice, showed some toughness. Pickens’ catch was something else. Haven’t seen many better live. His athletic ability is second to none and the more we look for him the better, he needs to be a major part of this offense.

Negatives

Edmunds in coverage is just poor. Twice targeted on slants in the red zone that went for TDs. Tribisky’s second half fell short of his first. Three straight three and outs to start the half I believe, 1/9 on third downs etc etc. We need those plays from him and the rest of the offense to keep the chains moving and our defense off the field. Not good enough. The Browns were also down two starting LBs throughout the game but we didn’t even target Freiermuth until very late in the last qtr, nor did we use Harris/Warren at all out of the backfield to test these LBs off the bench. Surely Canada noticed those injuries during the game to their Linebackers too??? The run defense is still a worry and I fear ANY team with a run game, regardless of there defense or QB/WR group, can and will score against us.

All we heard in the off season was how Roethlisberger held back Canada abd his offensive playbook. How a new more mobile QB would bring the best out of it. Really havent seen anything to warrant that perception. Moving forward, this team has to be more dynamic offensively to account for the poor D. Have to be to try to win games where we cant rely on the D to make a stop anymore. A shootout caliber offense. We're not gonna win much accruing 200 yards per game and zero TD passes

The offense is hot garbage right now and all it seems to be is run the ball here and there, sprinkled in with some Johnson out routes. It’s pedestrian and it’s becoming harder to watch. I was optimistic before the season started that we would be alright, that we could maybe go 9-8,10-7 with some luck but that’s not happening. You’re right, when your offense is putting up around 200 yards total it makes it hard to defend. We’ve scored what, 23 (With a pick 6), 17 & 17 points over the first 3 weeks. We haven’t played what I’d consider decent teams either. We still have all of the Bucs, Bills, Dolphins, Eagles to come before a bye. It’s going to get worse before it gets better
