Hocking is injured. Myers has had a minor injury. Hislop has been a bit behind in his pre season.
Its all well and good to say play the young blokes but they have to be fit enough to play.
Understand i'm just looking in 2-3 years are we going to be in hole or wat, not saying that we are in one now. Wat up with Hocking and Myers.

Tell me what these blokes have done, wouldn't it be better to see Myers, Hislop, Hocking and Reimers in the side. i want to see the bombers go forward but it just look like were going no where. Geelong game showed that were a long way away from the rest comp...
RIIIGHT. So your saying we drop our highest posession getter for last year (Stanton), our best clearence player (Watson) arguably our best tagger (Slattery) and Dyson, who was one of the inform players in the NAB cup. Dont mean to sound to harsh, but you are bloody nuts!

Watson was one of our best vs North. In fact, he has been one of our best mids for several years. Kicking isnt all it could be, but critics need to remember a crucial point - even the best kick of the football still needs to find the bloody thing first, and finding the ball is something Watson does alot of.

Dyson I would argue was our second best vs Geelong (as much as it counts in a 99 point disaster) and will poll well for round 2 come the BF count.

Stanton has struggled with the #1 tag. Even last year the #1 tag often went instead to Sir James, who would poke them with his walking stick and tell them back in his day they had to walk to the ground before they played, 15 miles in the snow... anyway, Stanton will come good as he adjusts to the attention and expectations.

Slattery gets jobs no one would envy. I dont think theres much Hislop, Reimers, Myers or Hocking could have done to stop GAblett sunday either. Bagging a good ordinary who has a bad day and gets blasted by a superstar on fire is pretty silly anyway.

Until the kids are regularly dominating the 2s, there is no reason to even talk of playing them, much less promoting them over proven senior players (Stanton and Watson, honestly, just you naming them as players you think we should replace makes my head hurt).

Of course that ****** is nuts.

Watson had an awesome game last week, and just because he got tagged out of the game by the best tagger in the comp it doesn't mean he should be dropped. He's our best clearance player for **** sake, why would we drop him when we got absolutely smashed in the clearances? It would just make things even worse.

Stanton was tagged last week by another good tagger in Rawlings, managed to bounce back this week but struggled with his disposal which is no suprise considering the pressure Geelong was applying. His kicking will improve as we won't be playing sides everyweek that apply that sort of pressure, but it's just something he'll have to improve on even more if he wants to take his game to the next level.

Dyson was our best midfielder against the Cats, has shown excellent form in the NAB cup, definately can't drop him ATM.

Slattery- Yes drop him. Plays a few good stopping roles here and there, is just ok but doesn't get much of the ball. Needs to be replaced by Hislop.

Good players can beat tag's. What i'm trying to say that Stanton Dyson aren't gun mids thats wat we need. Watson is border line, you just handball and not know how to kick a ball and we say he is one our best mids that rubbish boys come on. Watson in any other team in the AFL would not get a game as a midfielder maybe Melbourne he might. look at the long term boys cos we aren't going no were with team that played north and cats ok we beat north that was luck. If we finish last and got game time and trying most of our young players i would be happy with that and still pay for membership in 2009 that cost's me $650 a year.

Aahh, what are you on about? Stanton is 21, Slattery is 22, Watson is 23 and Dyson is 22. They are all young and will be playing footy for the next 8 or so years. Stanton and Watson are our better midfielders (along with spike and winders) and Dyson had a fairly good game.
Myers, Hislop, Reimers and Hocking will get game time throughout the year but are all very young and a couple are even injured

Gary Ablett wasn't any better when he was 21, only in the past two years has he matured and become the great player he is.
And i highly doubt that Watson wouldn't get a game elsewhere

How about giving him more than 2 weeks to prove that he can beat a tag?

Are you drunk?

He would get a game in every team.... and would be the #1 clearance player in probably 12 of them. Have you noticed the growing trend of handballs outnumbering kicks in modern football? Funny that you want to get rid of our best at executing that very skill.

Yeah I'm still relieved that we somehow fell across the line by 55 points?!?!?!

Thats all you can write mate, think about long term.
And the teams that handball morethen kicking are one's down the bottom of AFL.

I seriously can't understand why you want Watson to be replaced by a Hislop or Hocking. he is miles ahead of them and one of the best clearence players in the league. He played a great game last week (probably just behing McVeigh for the medal) and had no support this week, and he had Ling on him.

Ok if we lose games not by (99) and playing the young kids i would fine with that. We need to get game time in players like Pears, Myers, Hislop Hocking etc so we can see were the club is going. Well if there not ready for AFL as people might say by getting them game time might just make them AFL ready. like too say wat other people think?

So we aren't playing any kids at the moment?

FG you make some valid points, but some stupid ones at the same time. Stanton is a good young player and is learning how to deal with being the number 1 tagged midfielder for essendon. Theres no other player on our list that runs as much as he does in a game. As for jobe, he is brilliant by hand and the way he clears the ball at stoppeges 2nd to none BUT i still cant beleive that he cant kick the god dam ball. His kicking hasnt improved 1 bit from last season which i think is a joke. For a guy thats been a regular player in the 1's for 2 or 3 years now, i think that its not acceptable at AFL level

Yes, but it takes time. You can't just expect him to break the tags straight away, it's a learning curbe for him, and sooner or later he'll overcome the tags.

Play the kids, but we need some older, harder bodies in the team so the younger guys follow in their footsteps. So we need to keep JJ and Mcveigh in the midfield to show em how its done. Even have Welsh as a mentor to some of the younger blokes.

Collingwood do it well, have the equal balance of the old and the new.

forever very very very green - muppet of the year so far............ keep it up, as its only Round 2 and as we all know its a long season !!!!

kids learn from older players to be a star in the future, look at how well ryder is going atm becos he learns so much from two champion full backs. obviously that muppet has the carlton bloodline, thats why he is so stupid, he learns from the carlton people.

What the hell are you on about? Stanton is in our top 5 players without doubt, Watson consistently collects over 25 possessions a game, and Dyson adds to our much needed pace that Knights has utilised so far this year. These guys are our present guns for Essendon, and although they may not be superstars yet, they show a lot of promise and are all beneficial parts of our team.

Can this thread please be stickied so we can laugh at the stupidity all year long :p

:D I was thinking the same thing... seriously, how can one person be so wrong with *every* point they make...

Let's drop our young improving players to bring in young un-proven players... yanno, cause if you're not a gun in your first few years, it's *never* gunna happen...
