What about now with carr there?

Yeah perhaps a port fan can enlighten us about Carr's role this year. One would think he would resume his job as tagger, which may free up Kornes a bit.

Another note to remember is Swan's points to TOG ratio is extremely good, so any potential extra TOG this year can bring in extra points. Knowing Malthouse though, it probably won't happen.

By the end of the season, if things go well you would want both these guys in your team.

Yeh but swan is an impact player. In 2006, he averaged 102 with an average of 86mins per game - then in 2007, he averaged 102, with an average of 97mins per game! See what i mean?

Carrs last year at port was 2004 IIRC.

Interestingly, Kornes average jumped from 79.9 in 2004 to 94.6 in 2005. I suppose playing as the main tagger would bring him close to the ball, and allow him to get more tackles. Hard to say if his scoring would take a hit with Carr back in the side though.

On another note - Harvey vs Didak. Harvey has the edge considering his durability, but he is getting on a bit now. Does anyone see Didak improving his average again?

Ive just been fiddling around with my team and considering two options:

corey, hasleby and ziebell
gibbs, h.hartlett and deledio

I did an average from the last seaons they've played

corey's 08 avg + haslebys last season average= 96.65 per game avg
gibbs 08 + lids 08 = 92.35

obviously hasleby will be coming back from injury so he wont have his avg of 84 straight off the bat. would love corey though since he's a gun, is gibbs being overated, will he be tagged out.

what are everyones thoughts and thankyou in advance!

Got one spot left in my team i need deciding

Lockyer VS Gram

We all saw what lockyer did against wce last week but oviously wont be able to hold that form against decent opposition. Im not sure whether he is the midfield rotation anymore aswell, and also a bit worrying is the 20 point average drop from 07 to 08.

Gram is apparently getting midfield time but is struggling with injury at the moment or something(didnt play in nab opener) and kicks all the time, gold in dream team.

opinions?

I was in a similar position to you, but decided to go with Heath Shaw. He looks much more determined this year and how could anyone forget the big scores he obtains. He may be more consistent this year.

Now shaw is someone that has flown under the radar a bit. I know people are worried about the tag he gets, but my point is, i think he could easily average 85-90. He may of worked hard in offseason and learnt to counteract the tag he gets too. Showed ability to get some massive scores to - just dont put him as captain though :p

I'd say your second option has more value Crazy, but the fact that the first has Jimmy in it makes it a viable option, as he'll probably kill it every week as your captain. If you're liking Lucas' price I think the first option could be a good one.

Interesting comment there Lakey. He's only played one game this season and he wasn't tagged. How are you sure he'll cope better? I originally had him in my plan team expecting him to play through the middle a bit more, but he went back to his old role against West Coast and I really wasn't overly impressed. In contention, but a little further down my list now.

Yeh im not saying i know he'll cope better, its just that most good players learn to deal with a tag - whether he can remains to be seen, but he could of worked hard on that area of his game all off season for all we know. Could be a good pick, but agreed, there are risks involved - wouldnt mind him in my final lineup, though i think he can be picked up cheaper.

Agreed. With such variance in his scoring (which I can't see changing whether he has learnt to handle a tag or not), there is much more consistent options around that price range that are more likely to hold their value.

1)Selwood(100) + Boak (90)+ Lockyer(85) + 2000

2)Ablett(110)+ Reilly(80) + Mattner(80) + 5000

3)Swan(105) + Reilly(80) + Lockyer(85) + 36 600

I'm leaning towards the 3rd option purely because of the extra cash left over
Option 1 provides possibly an extra keeper in the midfield in Boak.

Reasons for Lockyer - increases the durability of my backline

Ablett vs Bartel

Will forever give me a headache. :p

No one can answer that lol. I had the same issue, so i got both :D

I reakon Ablett is the better DT option. He gets the higher scores. The only worry is he usually misses around two games every year. Bartel is less likely to get injured imo.
