I watched the replay this evening and a line from Matt Hill caught my attention.
Bailey Scott had won just 12 games out of 102. It’s now 13 out of 103 (13%).
It made me go have a look further. Obviously the following statistics will come as no surprise to anyone given what we’ve been through:
Paul Curtis - 8/61 (13%)
Tom Powell - 10/70 (15%)
Harry Sheezel - 7/46 (15%)
Tristan Xerri - 10/58 (18%)
Luke Davies-Uniacke* - 22/110 (20%)
Nick Larkey - 24/119 (21%)
Cam Zurhaar - 28/123 (23%)
Now why do I think it’s worth highlighting? They’re all still here. All bar LDU are signed on. And they’re all players that could make money elsewhere.
You could argue some are too young to go looking elsewhere. I disagree. JHF proved that. For example, SA clubs would have jumped all over Powell had the same sort of request come.
For anyone who’s played footy at any level, you would know that losing sucks. It makes you consider whether the grass is greener elsewhere. Or perhaps, to give it away all together e.g. Stephenson.
I commend this group and obviously there are more that have suffered. But this group specifically got a well deserved taste of what winning, and winning well, feels like on the weekend. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the rewards for sticking fat.
