Would have to disagree with Ablett.......he had 4 chances in a very good team, and he personally only produced in one of them. In 92' particularly if he had produced an 'Ablettesque performance' I don't think the Eagles would have been able to win from beind like they did.
Agree with Johnson, West, Grant, Rohan Smith...the constant of the Bulldogs for many years, probably fair to say they have just never had the quality around them to achieve the team success those four deserve.
One worth a mention for the cruelest of cruel luck.....Tony Modra. Crows full forward for however many years and manages to miss both premierships. Shane Ellen and Darren Jarman forever remembered as GF heroes for their roles kicking goals pinch hitting, Modra would simply have been doing the job he did for several years if not for injury.
Tony Lockett......how many goals did he kick in dud sides...got to the GF once and did his bit from memory....but for the guy that's kicked the most goasl in history of the game he couldn't have done much more to deserve a winner's medal.

he could have gone back to port when they entered the AFL but he stayed loyal to the pies
surely with Buckley port may not have been the chokers that they were in 02-03.....pies beat port in the finals in both 02&03 after port finished on top
a bloke who deserves one is ronny mckewon, standing in the race as the 1990 celebrations went on around him........

Not being bias but next to Matthews he was the best I'd seen. The man had more skill than close to any other footballer. Big wrap for the guy, considering he played in a crap team for 95% of his career. IMHO should be AFL legend

He kept the Saints alive in the '80's, early '90's. There was no interest in footy in Sydney, until Plugger came up.
Greatest goalkicker of all time.
He needed a fresh start.
Definitely deserved one.

Don't agree entirely but I do agree overall he was good for the club. Not so sure it was always the case with the the team though.
And that's exactly the reason the AFL ensured he was paid a small fortune to go up there. What's his contribution been to Sydney & the AFL since the big cheques stopped?

No, Crawford was not drafted till at least 1993.
I think Crawford, Grant, Harvey, West, Ablett all deserved one.

pies were lucky to win in 90??
finished second and had 3 consecutive 40+ wins to take the flag, fairly convincing winners

Considering the current state of Victorian footy I think that heartland may be in desperate need of a triple bypass champ.
