Point and Click Games

Played stuff like 'Beneath a Steel Sky' (free on Steam) and 'I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream' lately... stone-cold 90's classics. Really good games! Kinda funny how the main protaganist in BaSS is called Foster after (what was) the Aussie beer. Lol.

Also played some Artifex Mundi games. They're pretty basic and hokey, since the animation and voice-acting can come across very b-grade-ish, but I really like them. The puzzles are pretty straight forward and easy meaning you can blast through the games without getting stuck.

Also played some of the older Sherlock Holmes games. 'Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper' was excellent, I recommend that! 'Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis' was up the same path, but was quite difficult; needed a guide a fair bit. Lot of it was trying to chase down Arsene Lupin who was leaving clues in the form of riddles/poems which were hard to decipher for me.

Up next, got a couple of Artifex Mundi games (Nightmares from the Deep series), and Sherlock Holmes The Awakened.

So when I interviewed Charles Cecil in 2021 about Beyond a Steel Sky I made sure to drink a Foster's while interviewing him. He loved it. He told me that Foster's sent them a cease and desist before saying "I bet they would love it if we promoted the beer now"

I actually published a preview of the remake of Sherlock Holmes The Awakened last week:

Currently replaying the Broken Sword series because why not.

Been going through loads of Artifex Mundi games now. Cheap and easy 3-5 hour games. Blasting through the Demon Hunter series and have played the first 4, so got 1 left.... A little different thematically between each iteration, so a little let down in that area. Like mentioned in a post above they are really hokey and b-grade, but for some reason I like the hidden object scenes and the simplicity in general.

Also played NORCO a few weeks back. Highly recommended for any P&C fans

Published an article yesterday promoting eight titles still scheduled to come this year that are worth keeping an eye on

Thanks! Knew of Rosewater. But didn't know about Midnight Girl and Verne. The former looks fantastic. I've seen a few French films from the 60's that I've really enjoyed, so thematically it looks right up my alley.

I have a list of other P&C games that might be a bit further away from release that I'm interested in, if you like;

Agatha Christie - Hercule Poirot: The London Case
ASYLUM
Chronique des Silencieux
Dirty Land
Enoch: Children of Fate
Let Bions Be Bygones
Noir Storm
Old Skies
Slender Threads
The Drifter

I'm not sure if the following are explicitly P&C, but they have it tagged and they're up the Disco Elysium alley from what I found, so may be of interest.
Esoteric Ebb
Glasshouse
Sovereign Syndicate

Got a few of those on wishlist – Slender Threads looks really good and The Drifter is Aussie made. One of the games there I have a big feature/interview planned ;)

My yearly point-and-click games to watch out for article is live if anyone is interested.

Video is here if that's more your style:

Nice one. Death of the Reprobate looks the pick of the bunch for me. Also keen on Casebook 1899, ASYLUM, The Drifter, and The Night is Grey

Disco Elysium

Finally got around to playing it. I'm about 2 hours in and enjoying it. Didn't know what to expect exactly with this game but it's definitely different to what I thought

Any ideas on gamelength?

Can't remember exactly but I think a play through is about 20 hours. It's pretty heavy on the reading so I guess it depends on how much you want to skim through.

Disco Elysium took me 40h, but that was being as thorough as possible doing everything the game had to offer.

Like sixpence mentions it's extremely text heavy like a novel, so the gameplay won't change much from the 2h you've already put in.

I thought it was decent overall

I guess the game would alter a bit depending on the attributes you select at the start of the game.

I just went random and now wishing I spent some more time carefully choosing them

yeah I really didn't expect the reading part

Yeah, definitely!

I was more meaning in terms of combat and stuff, I don't think there's any of it and it's akin to a heavy reading novel from start to finish.

Disco has been on my list since it came out but just can't find the hours it demands. Pentiment is first on my must-play list.

About 30ish hours for me. 10 of those was listening to Cuno say fück.

this was an interesting one, but kind of clunky. could never finish it. a lot of the animation consists of re-used assets or an animation created from reversing the same sequence, from various points.
off the top of my head - denis hopper, grace jones, james earl jones some of the voice talent
edit: not jej, geoffrey holder
