Polak hit by tram?

I think there are bigger things going on in the world.

He didnt look. He got hit. It happens, feel sorry for him but the world keeps turning.
You are a lowlife scum that deserves shit from his life. Get ____ed, Karma is a bitch and I hope your life is not all peaches and flowers. w***er.

Good to see 99% of posters get stuck into the idiot always looking for attention.

It's also great that so many Richmond supporters are lending a helping hand in getting Polly something meaningful. Tomorrow there will be a group of supporters working on giving him something special to hopefully improve his spirits when he is lying in that hospital bed for who knows how long.

Opposition club supporters are getting in on it too, if you would like to help out see the thread on the Richmond board "something for Polak". The character of people willing to show their support is fantastic :thumbsu:

If you are indifferent about the matter that is up to you, but please show some respect to the people who are actually concerned and upset about this news.

Again I want to reiterate just how sad this is. Absolute thoughts go out to his family and freinds, and the RFC, as well as the Freo club, where I know he still has quite a few good mates. I really felt for Steven Dodd when he was playing today.

Hopefully he recovers enough to lead a full and healthy life, whether football is incorporated into that or not.

Interesting story but the story is getting clearer that Polly didnt have much to drink and was returning home after a post-match RFC function.

Still that bit of alcohol may have had its influence in Pollys awareness he wasn't blind as a bat. Still it's a realistic extreme story of how simple it is to be unaware of such things.

In Polaks case he was also dodging cars which may have compacted into not seeing the tram.

So many variables right now though as we dont know the complete story.

Quite possible he'd been given something for the ribs. A drink or two and he may not have had his normal capacities.

Really really sad news. Thoughts go out to Graham and his family and on this site to all Richmond supporters. He was really starting to play well i felt. Also, i'd like to apologise in advance for anyone who is stupid enough to come on here and say such incensitive and stupid things that have been said above. This is the time where all supporters of any club, infact all decent human beings need to come together and support the Richmond Football club, Graham Polak and his family and ensure he returns to full health.

Article in The Age about it: http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/ne...ininjured-tiger/2008/06/29/1214677852731.html

I've pulled out a few specific details

A club spokesperson said it was still unclear whether alcohol contributed to the accident about 11.30pm, after Polak had returned home to change his clothes.

"We're not completely sure if alcohol was a factor," the spokesperson said. "It was more the staff and the former players that were drinking at the function beforehand because the boys had just suffered a pretty bad loss and were in a terrible mood.

"They were certainly not at the this function getting blind, I can assure you."

After leaving his house, Polak was running for a taxi with teammates Cleve Hughes and Jordan McMahon across Dandenong Road, near its intersection with Orrong Road, when he was struck.

One teammate made it into the taxi, but Polak was hit by a number 64 tram travelling towards the city.

The impact with his head shattered the tram's front windscreen. But Polak, who is 196 centimetres tall, did not break any bones or suffer paralysis to his limbs.

Doctors put Polak in an induced coma because of bruising to his brain and were encouraged by some scans yesterday that showed there was no additional swelling since Saturday night.

Although Polak's condition has improved, he would be in hospital "for some time" and his AFL career was in doubt, he said.

Thanks for that article MWNN :thumbsu:

I think you are absolutely correct Ranger, after the knock he would have had to have some kind of pain reducing drug, for sure that would have made even 1 drink a bit different than usual

Wish him all the best. Not how you want to go down.

I'm surprised people aren't ____ed over every week by them to be honest. Granted melbournians are used to them but you'd think tourists and visitors would be there in sufficient numbers to have someone stuff up once a week.

The way they stop in the middle of the road and you can step out and be cleaned up if you have a brain fade blew me away.

Someone died (i think they checked out) in Adelaide recently after being hit by one as they couldn't hear it beeping to move as she had her ipod in.

We basically only have one tram but she still managed to ensure a mention at this years Darwin awards.

sad news....i live off orrong/dandenong and saw the ambulance etc but didnt think to much of it until the morning when news broke it was polak. I suspect he was drunk because the dandenong tram line is straight for afew hundred metres so if he were sober he surely would have seen the tram...Lights are pretty good around the line aswell...Hopefully he makes a full recovery!

I've been going to after matches for about 18 years now.
Maybe 10 years ago they might have had a beer and left. Never seen one lately have a drink.
They go to the functions, do what they have to do and then probably go out afterwards and have a drink. But I haven't seen them for a long time do it at official functions, except the B&F where I reckon they're entitled to a few.

Anyone making light of this situation needs to have a really hard look at themselves. I can't imagine the pain his family are going through now, especially when they were so far away and had to fly all that way not knowing the condition their son was in.

I've had to do it myself, knowing my daughter was unconscious in hospital years ago. I still remember the worry I went through on that journey to the hospital in Bendigo. And that was only a couple of hours away, let alone flying from Perth.

Try and put yourselves in their position before you post what you may think is something humorous, but others, at this point in time, think is totally tasteless. It really just shows you up to others as someone not worth knowing me thinks.

Hang in their Polly :(

I've nearly been hit by trams many many times in my trips to Melbourne. Not because I'm being careless, but not growing up with them, you just don't get used to them.

Was such a nice guy, I held him in the highest regard. His mum was a lovely human being as well. Remains the best player I've ever played with and against, with some of the best hands I've ever seen. A fantastic team man, you knew he always had your back covered. It's good to see so many people do the same in reverse now. :thumbsu:

I was shocked to hear this terrible news yesterday. Can only imagine what his family and friends are going thru. I wish Polak all the best and hope he makes a full recovery!

What a horrible story, Get well soon mate,

I am just hoping the kid pulls out of this and lives a very normal life.

Good Luck Graham , You have the whole football community behind you. :thumbsu:

Why do some assume he was drunk? Apparently he was getting out of a taxi on his way home and he had something to give his girlfriend which was in his hand. (Heard this from someone from the club on SEN). Seems to me he was anxious to get home and lost concentration. Also other posts state it is fairly dark there at night.

Why don't we wait to hear about the full story from the man himself or from someone who was there before speculating?
