In the lead up to the '24 election, Donald Trump announced 20 key policies he would enact if re-elected.

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/platform

More detail is provided for these policies here:

https://rncplatform.donaldjtrump.co...8.1537293993.1730887358-1509222167.1730887358

Concrete, specific policies alluded to above include:
  1. Finish the Border wall with Mexico.
  2. Deport over a million people, using the National Guard and Army.
  3. Ending inflation.
  4. Make America the dominant energy producer in the world (currently this is China, and by some margin)
  5. Turning America into a 'manufacturing superpower' (it already is, second only to China, so to get this one up we would need to see real gains).
  6. Large tax cuts for workers.
  7. No tax on tips.
  8. Prevent World War three (?), restore peace in Europe and in the Middle East (presumably this means ending the War in Israel/ Palestine/ Lebanon/ Iran, and ending the Russia/ Ukraine conflict 'in 24 hours').
  9. Build a great iron dome missile defense shield over our entire country -- all made in America.
  10. Stop the migrant crime epidemic, demolish the foreign drug cartels, crush gang violence, and lock up violent offenders (this includes the death penalty for drug dealers).
  11. Rebuild our cities, including Washington DC, making them safe, clean, and beautiful again.
  12. Strengthen and modernize our military, making it, without question, the strongest and most powerful in the world (current US Military spending is $841.4 billion for the Department of Defense (DOD), $32.4 billion for national security programs within the Department of Energy (DOE), and $438.0 million in defense-related activities).
  13. Keep the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency (although it's not like he has the power to stop the USD being the Worlds default reserve currency in any event).
  14. No cuts to social security and Medicare.
  15. No changes to the retirement age.
  16. Cancel the electric vehicle mandate (good mate Musk is going to love this one).
  17. Cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children.
  18. Keep men out of women's sports.
  19. Deport pro-Hamas radicals and make our college campuses safe and patriotic again.
  20. Secure our elections, including same day voting, voter identification, paper ballots, and proof of citizenship.
Over the next four years, when (or if) any these policies happen, I'll check them off the list above.

Feel free to tag me in if/ when he achieves any from the above list of 20 key policy positions, and I'll strike them off the list as he does so.

How would we define "real gains" in manufacturing? Would we look at employment (number of manufacturing jobs) or output/ productivity of manufactured goods (dollar value is tricky due to currency fluctuation, but number of units is pretty meaningless)

There is your metric.

The only way it works is if it gets cheaper to make stuff in the USA, or the USA goes the way of Germany and carves out a (massive) niche manufacturing high end stuff that people are willing to pay extra for.

His current plan is to impose tariffs on foreign built stuff (raising the prices of them for your average American) which makes the more expensive locally made stuff viable.

End result is everything will cost a lot more.

And the only way to make it cheaper in the US is to lower wages, lots of luck with that one. Sooooo bring in foreign workers who will work for peanuts? :rolleyesv1:
Actually they do that here with SE Asians from Thai and Philippines mostly. Taiwanese would rather not work than do those menial factory jobs.

No, they're going to also ship out the foreign workers who work for peanuts.

And while doing all these things that contribute to inflation (impose tariffs, remove millions of unskilled workers on the minimum wage) he's also going to 'eradicate inflation'.

Exactly they are going to cripple the manufacturing sector with an election gimmick. The economy relies on the low wage often undocumented or illegal workers.
My prediction is they will do some token deportations ala FL and DeSantis for the news cycles, but keep many and maybe put more onerous regulations on the workers, not the employers. Remember the meat packers during covid.

  1. Finish the Border wall with Mexico.
No chance. Probably wont even attempt. Might build a few miles of fence. But he has both houses so I could easily end up eating shit on this one.
  2. Deport over a million people, using the National Guard and Army.
Not a policy, its a goal.
A million people might leave, but not through deportation. He might deport a lot, but a million people is too much. Might use the national guard and army to stop boarder crossings or to transport deportations but thats it.
  3. Ending inflation.
This is meaningless, he has set himself no targets. Inflation will exist. It will probably get worse than it is right now, unless he really tanks the economy. He Will specify the goals after he claims victory on this one.
  4. Make America the dominant energy producer in the world (currently this is China, and by some margin)
Not a policy, its a goal.
Doubt it. He might drill baby drill but they won’t get to number 1. I really hope he doesn’t try though as its unnecessary for them and will **** up their ecosystems a lot.
  5. Turning America into a 'manufacturing superpower' (it already is, second only to China, so to get this one up we would need to see real gains).
Not a policy, its a goal.
He can already claim this just from inheriting Biden’s economy. He wont notably increase manufacturing jobs in total though. He will have a few key projects but the numbers wont reflect anything.
  6. Large tax cuts for workers.
Maybe a few temporary ones like last time, the real cuts will come from whoever Elon wants them to.
  7. No tax on tips.
    Possible.
  8. Prevent World War three (?), restore peace in Europe and in the Middle East (presumably this means ending the War in Israel/ Palestine/ Lebanon/ Iran, and ending the Russia/ Ukraine conflict 'in 24 hours').
Not a policy, its a goal.
The meaning of war is fluid. If Europe doesn’t step up then the Ukraine war will end, but this isn’t a good thing. Eyes on Poland.
  9. Build a great iron dome missile defense shield over our entire country -- all made in America.
    Lol no. Wont even try.
  10. Stop the migrant crime epidemic, demolish the foreign drug cartels, crush gang violence, and lock up violent offenders (this includes the death penalty for drug dealers).
Not a policy, its a goal.
This is so vague its meaningless. He will claim victory no matter what.
  11. Rebuild our cities, including Washington DC, making them safe, clean, and beautiful again.
Not a policy, its a goal.
This isn’t in his purview. Will blame everything he doesnt like on local governments (even republican ones) and claim what he does like.
  12. Strengthen and modernize our military, making it, without question, the strongest and most powerful in the world (current US Military spending is $841.4 billion for the Department of Defense (DOD), $32.4 billion for national security programs within the Department of Energy (DOE), and $438.0 million in defense-related activities).
Not a policy, its a goal.
    He already inherits this.

Not a policy, its a goal.
    He already inherits this.
  14. No cuts to social security and Medicare.
It depends on how effective the project 2025 guys are. Actually, yeah he will make cuts. He listens to what the last person who sucked his dick says.
  15. No changes to the retirement age.
Probably will keep these. But see above.
  16. Cancel the electric vehicle mandate (good mate Musk is going to love this one).
Definitely will keep this promise. Musk wants it gone as it stifles competition.
  17. Cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children.
No idea what the logistics on this will be. I’m not making a call one way or the other.
  18. Keep men out of women's sports.
Not a policy, its a goal.
He has no power. If he does then he’s officially a dictator.
  19. Deport pro-Hamas radicals and make our college campuses safe and patriotic again.
Not a policy, its a goal.
Probably not but who knows. If he does then he’s officially a dictator.
  20. Secure our elections, including same day voting, voter identification, paper ballots, and proof of citizenship.
Pretty sure this is up to the states?

They're policies. His own website (linked above) clearly states these are the things he is going to do in office. He has a linked document on there clearly outlining how he plans on doing it.

I left out the really whacky stuff like 'deny entry to the USA any radical Socialist or Leftist' or stuff he can't change anyway like 'protect the constitution/ second amendment/ freedom of speech' because he can't touch the constitution (it basically involves him doing nothing, like all previous governments have done).

No, they're going to also ship out the foreign workers who work for peanuts.

And while doing all these things that contribute to inflation (impose tariffs, remove millions of unskilled workers on the minimum wage) he's also going to 'eradicate inflation'.

Interestingly his vote from Hispanic men went up a lot. So he managed to tap into a section of America likely heavily impacted by illegal Hispanic people working for cash in hand below minimum wage.

FFS I am not reading all of that that. I picked a 'policy' at random.

2. Rebuild Our Cities and Restore Law and OrderRepublicans will restore safety in our neighborhoods by replenishing Police Departments, restoring Common SensePolicing, and protecting Officers from frivolous lawsuits. We will stand up to Marxist Prosecutors, vigorously defend theRight of every American to live in peace, and we will compassionately address homelessness to restore order to ourstreets

Tell me what part of that is a policy?
What does replenishing Police Department mean? What Police? Local? Will he work with local jurisdictions? Will he fund them? What is the level of funding he is aiming for?

restoring Common SensePolicing - What is restoring common sense policing? What does that involve? Does he plan on introducing new standards? What are they and how would they be implemented, given its NOT a federal level? Or does he mean the FBI? Which opens up even more questions.

and protecting Officers from frivolous lawsuits. - Examples? What lawsuits does he aim to cut out? In what way is existing qualified immunity not sufficient? What are the gaps? How will they be addressed?
We will stand up to Marxist Prosecutors - come the **** on dude.

vigorously defend theRight of every American to live in peace - What?

and we will compassionately address homelessness to restore order to ourstreets - by doing what?

This is just waffle. Do you see how this is just waffle?
He doesn't need to have detailed legislation drawn up, but this is just a list of buzzwords. Its not even the concept of a plan yet, and you are going to tell me with a straight face that this is a policy?

FFS I am not reading all of that that. I picked a 'policy' at random.

I've literally given you 20 stated promises of his administration that can be measured. End inflation. Deport over a million people. No cuts to welfare. Build a missile defence system over the USA. Death penalty for drug dealers. End the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Tax cuts for workers.

We can measure these.

Lets see how many he actually achieves over the next 4 years. I'm tipping, it's likely none of them.

Even with likely control of both Houses, and the SCOTUS at his beck and call, so he has literally zero excuses.

And before you get angry, this is what America wanted. A convicted felon, who attempted to hold onto power by force, who lies constantly. This is who they voted for.

Lets see if they get what he promised them.

The amazing thing is the promises made promises that occurred under Trump,
And everything that did not work was someone else's fault,
So when Inflation does not drop it will be due to Biden or the Reserve Bank.
When Gas prices stay the same he will blame the oil companies etc.
When Immigrants still come in he will blame someone else,
This will be a rinse and repeat of 2016 nothing was his fault.
And yet here we are in 2024

I've literally given you 20 stated promises of his administration that can be measured. End inflation. Deport over a million people. No cuts to welfare. Build a missile defence system over the USA. Death penalty for drug dealers. End the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Tax cuts for workers.
I'm sorry, I don't want to get too critical here in case you're dealing with something, but you are having difficulty tracking the conversation and its frustrating for me. I am angry at you and your responses, not the subject.

You indeed posted promises that can be measured.

I responded with some thoughts and predictions to all of them. The only point you responded to was me pointing out that several 'policies' are goals, not actual policies. You argued that they were, providing a linked document as evidence.

I responded by claiming that they were inadequate, basically saying that expanding on a goal with a small paragraph of buzzwords does not make them policies.

And now you have responded saying that you posted 20 promises. Which I am clearley aware of as I responded to each of them.

Either you are responding in bad faith, or you aren't keeping track of the threads in your mind for whatever reason.

Deporting a million people is 684 people per day, every day for 4 years.

One way around this would be to have more people at the border and quick way of tossing them back to Mexico.

I don't think they're going to be sending 4 plane loads of people every day from all over the USA.

Stopping immigration was just the pretend policy to alleviate cost of living pressures.

But they didn't do it in their last 4 years and they won't do it this 4 years. They will do what they always do.

Cut corporate tax rates
Reduce Social Services
Drill more oil
Spend more on war.

Ukraine is the interesting one for me. Any US president in history would be doing what the weapons manufacturers want and providing all the arms. But Trump has a personal interest in pleasing Putin. So maybe the deal is that Putin gives peace but the US re-arms Ukraine totally afterwards? Ukraine won't surrender though, so it's probably not realistic. Trump will go with personal benefit and stop the supply to Ukraine and please the weapons people with more supply to Israel and Saudi and start a war with Iran.

The more I think about it, the more I think he's going to do practically nothing. I guess what will change my mind is when he makes it clear who his successor is going to be (Ivanka). Whichever of his children he appoints to run a Department, that's the annointed one. Jared to State maybe? Ivanka to Transport, to run against Buttigeig?

I don’t think Ivanka gets the gig. I have a feeling a lot of her values are actually in contrast to Trump and the rest of the GOO wouldn’t want her near the top.

I could be wrong but she’s always given off a certain level of reasonableness in public but that might just be for show.
