It's logical
Trump doesn't want to be prosecuted
The ruling came about due to Trump being prosecuted.

I'm sure he's happy to have the ruling on his side, but doesn't change the fact he'd prefer no prosecution in the first place.
So.

Trump wanting a thing = Supreme court giving him that thing.

And the issue at hand is, he got prosecuted for crimes he committed, if only they hadn't done that.

OK

Tossing in a reference to 1930s Germany does not fortify a poor argument.

If he did want to become a dictator, he had no better opportunity than during COVID. He could have declared all sorts of extraordinary powers and taken control, stopped the election, got the military in etc etc.

For a guy who apparently wants to be a dictator...that was a big opportunity to let slip
He couldnt, because he had appointed people that had some base level of tendency to not flagrantly break the law. Something that they have been blatantly open about not allowing next time.

Why make a point of appointing people who will prioritise doing exactly what Trump wants, regardless, if he was able to do everything he wanted last time?

I can tell you didn't read this article.

It does not support any notion that Trump will achieve absolute power and / or end democracy
No one suggests he will achieve absolute power. He doesnt need to achieve absolute power, few despots do. He just needs to put America in a place where people that execute authority and make decisions, are afraid to do so in a way Trump doesn't like.

He has set up a unit to root out corruption, I wonder what definition of corruption they will use.

I am suspecting it will be something like, failing to do what the president tells you.

I sure hope this 'democracy' discussion is not being based on whether he said those exact words, like "He didn't use 'quid pro quo' in his perfect phone call so he didn't mean it". :confusedv1: The threat of no more elections is obviously nuanced to anyone with more than a school kids understanding of what has been going on.

The effect of Trump AND his gang, and even more so the state operators who will use him as a cover, is was is being feared.

Sure Trump is going to say something about never leaving etc, but it is the people around him, especially now because it really is HIS people, that will sacrifice themselves to make it happen. This is what happened last time. The institutions creaked mightily, but there were enough normies to withstand it. Trump did try to put his people in place though at the last minute. He has learned not to allow professionals in those seats. A question I have is how far is the Federalists or billionaires willing to go. I think pretty far as long as they can have the appearance of elections. They'll want an opioid fig leaf so the mob think they still have some sort of democracy.

The real, gravest threat is the state governments. They have already started implementing policies that will make voting more difficult, especially for the demographics that often vote Dem. Their gerrymandering is extreme in some states, and remember SCOTUS has ruled its not a fed problem. Boss Hogg, regulate yourself. Well we have seen state supreme courts rule for the GOP policies. We have even seen them rule against, but the state GOP say "F -off" and carry on. Places like Wisconsin where the GOP was faced with an upswell against their BS, they simply used their gerrymandered super-majority to severely neuter what the newly elected, but not sworn it D governor could do. The election of that governor should have had consequences, but it didn't.

They can do this shit because there will be strong political pressure from all three branches. SCOTUS will continue on its crusading way also because there will be little pressure from the WH or Congress. The Constitution does not check them itself, as we have seen SCOTUS one minute be literalists and the next very flexible.
In this situation, states can ensure they have majority representation in Congress. It would be very difficult to change it if the GOP can get their MAGA types in key positions of the local electoral process.

That is just a off top of my head rant. I'm sure there are plenty of other things going on that will also hinder truly 'free and open' elections.

wow. Donnie has already said he is going to deport legal citizens, born here, if their parents are illegal. Even if said parents are elderly, and they are middle aged.

Racist bigotry. Ethnic cleansing....
Look out, Barron the president’s coming after you
