What freaks me out more than any social reforms or possible economic crash that the Trump government may cause is the prospect of wide ranging deregulation, which has always been a goal of conservatives in the US but now looks to actually come to fruition with Trump looking to cut $2 trillion from the US budget.

Deregulation in my opinion is the biggest threat to personal safety in the developed world.
Would you feel safe flying if there was not a huge regulatory body?
Would you trust the foods you eat not to be full of parasites or metals if farms and factories weren’t regulated?
Would you trust all your wireless lithium battery powered devices not to explode if there were no regulations?
(This can keep going on and on as naseum with every aspect of our life based around consumerism)

They say ‘the market will regulate itself’ - and what they mean is that companies that cause incidents, injuries and death will go under, rather than there being regulatory bodies to stop these incidents in the first place.

Yes, the white rabbit that capitalists have long touted....that the market can regulate itself. What a crock of shit.

Before we get to the idea that unsafe/unethical businesses will go under, what will also occur will be a multi-layered system - the safe options which cost more money, and then the increasingly less safe options which get cheaper.

Consider the difference between a brand new car, vs one at 2/5/10/20 years....then apply that same rationale to everything. Once it envelops the critical services of a community (education/sanitation/policing/energy) then you have significant erosion of community cohesion - something we are beginning to see now.

Capitalism's embrace of the cult of the individual, one so enthusiastically adopted and championed worldwide by democratic institutions, is the demonic harbinger of this decay.
