Makes me laugh how desperate these clowns and their fans are for relevance. They know they are getting destroyed on and off the field so they want to shift the goalposts to another battleground. The AFL is going to tell them to **** off, and rightly so.
I hope you are right about this.

I would imagine the best counterpoint to the crows SA/NT proposal would be to extend our Aboriginal academy to include girls

I would imagine the best counterpoint to the crows SA/NT proposal would be to extend our Aboriginal academy to include girls

According to this photo it already does:

Wouldn't be the first time an educational institute's photo fibbed about their diversity.

I can't find any articles that say girls are currently eligible, and definitely can't find evidence that any girls are in the academy.

Did any girls get flown over to China?

According to the text on the linked webpage, eligibility is non gender definitive:
The Aboriginal AFL Academy aims to provide an elite AFL academy for Aboriginal participants who demonstrate a commitment to achieving excellence in both football and education.

No aboriginal girls were flown to Hong Kong and China (this time).

Rebecca Puddy, from 'The Australian's' Adelaide desk, travelled with the tour group - nine days slog through gastro, early rising and smog for approx 500 words published at the end of it all. Rebecca is that keen on digging deeply into Indigenous affairs. It would be worth putting your question to her: puddyr@theaustralian.com.au

The only other girl to travel with the tour group of 26 was Promise Xu, who has recently been recruited by PAFC to work for Andrew Hunter on the Club's Community Programs, China Strategy specifically of course.

I actually think that a twilight summer league will work well... The girls can still play netball, hockey or which ever is their main winter sport AND still get to the Power games without having to worry about playing footy as well.

If they get the timeslots correct, a few frothies on a Friday night after work watching the Power girls slug it out sounds great!!!

Nice warm weather and it will be a superb family night out with the sons and especially daughters!!!

This will potentially kick some more competition into the cross code (soccer) time slot, making footy a year round extravaganza!

So what dates are we looking at for announcements?

Does anyone know when bits are due?

When successful licences are handed out?

Its an ideal time slot to play the womens league in summer time, however, what ever profit we made this year (200k I believe) would be swallowed up and then some if you think you are going to play these game at Adelaide Oval.

This will only work if its played before the boys to help cover the costs. And what ever it cost for the boys to play away, double it!

I think it can work, but it needs a lot of $$$ pumped into it along with a constant promoting of the women's league to keep people coming back and interested at the same time.

I would suggest to experiment with the womens league with regards to a conference set up where by all other state leagues contest to play in knock out phase during the mens AFL season.

Not sure a summer league is a good idea.

You're not going to get to use the 'night' venues. Our women's team could use Alberton but there's no lights. It would be a real bad thing having 40 women sick with heat stroke.

I just don't think AFL should be played in temps over 30 degrees for safety.

Yeah if the AFL wants the women to play at AFL standard ovals then it has to be played in the footy season.

If the players are going to be full time during the season then if the first year there are only 6 teams as indicated so far, then the comp is 10 weeks + 2 week finals if a top 3 play off or 3 weeks if a top 4 - which means a mid March to mid June comp.

You could play the games on a Wednesday and Thursday night for TV - the weather is still pretty good during most of this period, they get exclusive live coverage, or if they are weekend games then they have to be curtain raiser to the guys game, but TV coverage might not be exclusive and live.

By finishing in mid June the girls go back to their local clubs for the remaider of the season and finals, and then get back to being a part time footballer needing to find work.

If it starts off as 10 or more team comp then there are lots of issues which will change the above scenarios extensively.

A summer league won't work for two reasons... Reason one is that the majority of ovals are used for cricket in the summer, which could work in the girls favour I guess, as I don't think (especially in the beginning) there will be massive crowds (so playing infront of 2k at Alberton would be a hell of a lot better than 2k at AO).

The only was I can see a womens league working (especially in the beginning) is for he women to play curtain raisers to the mens game. That way they can still play in front of 2k or however many rock up early to watch them play, and clubs get to cut down costs slightly being able to travel both teams together (use the same water boys, runners, medical staff ect.)

Given how unreserved seating works in the western stand, I reckon you'd get more than 2k at curtain raiser games for the next few years, if only to save their seats.

I have to get there early to save seats when I can, id still go early and watch the ladies even if I didn't have to.

I have so many reservations about the makeup of any womens league, but none to the concept itself.

In some ways it could be best to have some generic stateish sides for a few years (1SA, 1WA, 2-3Vic, 1NSW, 1QLD) with the intent of breaking them down at a later date, so there's no commercial benefit to a select few clubs in terms of a headstart into the female player/fan market.

Play the SA/WA teams before Port/crow...Freo/wce games a few times each year, make them a neutral SA/WA team.

Too many teams too early wont cut it.

Looks like the Sanfl is giving the crows a leg up on a women's team. Which doesn't surprise me but I would of liked an even chance of us getting a women's team up and running.

They
If they play in summer they won't get to play at Adelaide Oval - cricket owns it for those months

It would be fair an reasonable to have the games played at Alberton. Would be better for crowd numbers & would give the home of Port more coverage on channel 7.
