Funny to think that Poults has played the 4th most games of our draftees.

Nah, he only got the one season on the off-chance that he came good. He didn't.

John Rombotis (1996 National) traded end 1998

Danny Morton (1997 National) delisted end 2000

Michael Stevens (1998 National) traded end 2002

... is that just a coincidence, or a freaky pattern emerging??

I'm surprised he's ahead...we all know Paxman fancies himself as a forward.

Paxman is definitely the better linking defender, he knows when he runs down ground people will kick it to him because he is in position, whereas Kingsley can kick the ball downground but is less likely to take part in any follow-up play.

But to get back to the main part of this thread, our previous performances at the draft. The best year we've had in numbers of players who've made it would be 1997. Steve Paxman pre-season and Chad Cornes and Nick Stevens in the National Draft.
Josh Carr was pretty much the only one from 1998 although Matthew Bode in the pre-season played well and ended up a good player for the Cows. Jared Poulton and Brent Guerra have been good from 1999 although neither a standout. The 2000 draft was good for us with Shaun Burgoyne and Kane Cornes. There's not much to say about 2001 as Damon White is untested and Barry Brooks was traded away. A few still remain and are as yet pretty much untried from earlier drafts. Koula's injuries have meant he hasn't even been available for SANFL or I'm sure he'd at least have a few more AFL games than 3. Cassisi, Morgan and Thurstans will all have to wait their chance; Ackland, too, although he may get a chance very soon if 1 or more ruckmen go down.

Seems to me (without checking the facts) that Port has a far greater rate of success with drafting Victorians than our Ramsgate Rivals - we hold them, they lose them . . .

Pretty much. Half of our list comes from interstate, so there's a fair bit cameraderie and understanding of being new in.

At other clubs, its much less so....Adelaide and West Coast are probably fair examples - both clubs have a high local content, so any `incomers' are more likely to be a bit separated.

Pretty reasonable return. Two very good clubmen & slighty more expirenced players in Kingsley & Paxman, both B&F winners. Unfortunately wasted pick 6, 7 & 9 in hindsight. I guess our squad could of been a lot stronger had we choosen differently with the earlier picks, does anyone know some players we overlooked? Lockwood & Harwood never lived up to their potential maily due to injury. Rating 7/10. Early Picks 4/10, Late/preseason 8/10.

Excellent use of our first two picks, very good key forward and an excellent onballer, later picks didn't work, although again an injury to Morton didn't help his cause and for that matter neither did Fraser's knee problem. Bode was a clever pick at the time, again didn't live up to potential at Port but we did well in the trade we worked for him. Rating 8/10, Early picks 9/10, Late/preseason 5.5/10

One pretty good onballer & two still developing key position players, not a great return but a 50/50 strike rate on the two early picks isn't bad. Poults a bonus in the preseason. Rating 6/10, Early picks 6/10, late/preseason 6/10 (at this stage).

Bit early to call but our first two have been less than spectacular, Guerra the expeption. Chapman a gamble that didn't work. Rating 5/10. Early 5.5/10, Late 0/10.

Excellent so far, KAne & Junior look the goods. Dom could also be good. Rating 7.5/10 (could go higher). Early 8/10, late 6/10.
