Opinion Port Adelaide and their Prison Bars

If anyone needs a laugh, you should check out the Prison Bars thread on the Port board.
After Eddies performance on tv last night they've gone ape shit.
Amongst the highlights:
Port Adelaide are apparently a bigger club than Collingwood.
More than one poster says they will riot and invade the field at their next game.

they would definitely get to wear prison bars then.

They gleefully posted a list of Eddie's gaffes but were quick to delete my reply which referenced David Koch's on-air joke about slavery (in reference to Usain Bolt).

Perhaps someone can remind us why the tarps were used in previous PA home games. Thought it was a lack of fans, but if they’re a bigger club maybe that’s incorrect 🤔

Buckley + Port + Prison Bars = premiership
Buckley + Collingwood = nothing

You are a tale told by an idiot, signifying nothing.

Hmmmmmm, SANFL v AFL..... just saying. Didn’t get to play too many reserves games at Collingwood.

It's so funny that they want to make it look like we're the bad guys, denying them something they think they are entitled to! Port Adelaide could have been "left to rot" in the SANFL as the likes of Glenelg, Norwood and Sturt have been, but they were allowed into the AFL, and given a chance to be a someone on the national stage. They would know the terms they agreed to when they entered the competition, and it's pure arrogance that sees them raising this issue every chance they get.

dont let the truth of what is actually said on our board get in the way of a good story

I mean, put aside the history and the contractual agreements, why should Port Adelaide be able to wear the Prison Bars? They are a symbol of a great club which had a history of dominating South Australian Football. The Port Adelaide Football Club now? Well apart from a Premiership and the last couple of years they've hardly been the Football Powerhouse which is their namesake. The Prison Bars should be reserved to those who actually earned the right to wear it.

Also their current jumper is quite good, no idea why you'd want to abandon it.

Buckley + Collingwood = nothing
"nothing"

- Brownlow Medal
- Norm Smith Medal (in a losing Grand Final no-less)
- x6 Copeland Medal
- x7 All-Australian Team

But don't worry I'm sure it's fun picking and choosing stats to suit your narrative that somehow Buckley was a loser when he played for Collingwood which couldn't be further from the truth.

No ones wanting to abandon it. All we want is 2 games a year against our rivals, in our state, that lets face it unless your a south aussie doesnt get a huge amount of attention.

If premierships are everything then not winning premierships is nothing.

I'm fuming today at your ex-president's comments so my comments will be more binary than usual today, deal with it.
We both know he was a great player, but clubs win premierships.

Fuming over what? He is not our President any more. What he says can no longer be attributed to our club & thank fu*k for that
I couldn't give a fat rats arse if Port wear their old SANFL jumper for 2 showdowns a year. No idea what the big deal is.
Storm in a tea cup.

Imo the title of this thread reflects those of port adelaide alberton supporters. They consider their prison bars as their true/traditional colours every bit as much as collingwood suppoters would theirs. That is the condrum, and my heart beats truer when the power run out in our prison bars. the ultimate for me for the power to wear our prison bars more than just the crows game.

Non issue. This is the kind of crap Eddie has been wasting his time on instead of managing the club properly.

Let them wear the traditional kit their supporters know and love..... for home and away Showdowns only. It doesn’t hurt anybody, especially not Collingwood. in fact it will bring money into the game.

This is a great opportunity for Collingwood to grow up, man up and make a small step into the post Maguire era.

Personally I couldn’t care if they have a similar jumper to us tbh. It really doesn’t worry me.

But on the flip side, this is why Ed should never have let them wear it last year if it’s an issue the club is passionate about, we don’t have to use “good faith” You let them wear it once, you set yourself up to fail. It’s the classic, give an inch they’ll ask for a mile.

And there in lies the issue. Allowing you to wear our colours for 1 or 2 games a year is the thin edge of a wedge. You’d never be satisfied. Collingwood adopted the B&W stripes in 1897, Port in 1902. Before that Port wore some lovely pink and magenta versions. We’re happy for you to use those.

Couldn't agree more.
