Maybe an unpopular opinion ... Going backwards? Possibly, but sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward.

Absolutely. Lycett might be the answer but he's been with us for one year and been out of the side. Hasn't shown enough yet to be captain so soon. Really need another year to see who steps up and with that in mind if the choice is between Ollie/Jonas/Boak it's a pretty clear choice although I wouldn't be surprised at all if we ended up with Ollie as captain next year...

Poster child for poor disposal. If his name wasn't Ebert a good chance he'd be on the trade block.

As opposed to our current captains?

I think Ebert has a lot of captaincy traits - humble, well respected, consistent and hard working player.

I wouldn't have Ebert in the starting 22, let alone captain.

Sure an improvement on our current captains, but if we want that and an older player Boak is all Ebert is and more. He'd only be suitable, IMO, as an interim for 2020 / 2021, where his Vice Captain (Houston or Lycett) is clearly marketed as the Captain in waiting (not 'probably will be', an explicit 'they are next and learning the ropes').

Hammer isnt worth mentioning. If he was out of contract this year he shouldve been delisted before Broadbent

I wouldn't go that far but Hartlett is a massive disappointment, partly because of injuries but mostly hes just flakey.

I can’t see him not being sole captain. If they take it off him, it’ll feed into the ‘rumour’ that he shopped himself around.
Yeah you're right but what an absolute rabble we've become if we have to put someone in the role of captain just to now save face.

That's what it's become.

If they take it off both it will feed into the fact that he and Jonas were terrible choices for captain.

Selwood 2012 - now
Pendlebury 2014 - now
Cotchin 2013 - now

Boak 2013 - 2018
I want to know why Boak was wanting a break while these three look like being captains for a couple of more years at least.

I don’t believe he was tired or wanted a break from it. Something is off with the club.

This is strategy gold from Wines' management. The club tells Wines that he won't be captain next season. Management talks to Carlton or makes it up and leaks it to the media. Whether they talked to Carlton or not is irrelevant. Because NOW, the club can't strip him of the captaincy without looking as a punishment for shopping himself around. Brilliant.
... making the initial co-captain decision (for which one person was responsible) look even more stupid and corrosive.
