Worth a listen as it's one of the slightly more informative pressers from CD and the Club.

CD's comments re Ollie is interesting to say the least as it appears it was going on for some time.

So the question is, how and why did the conversation start in the first place.

That has yet to be answered.
Was probably Harry lol.
Thanks for the link.
So he spoke to Ollie three times about the rumours over past couple of months but still hasn’t clarified what Ollie’s response was. So, did Ollie deny that someone from his camp approached Carlton or did he confirm it.
Was he interested in leaving or was he fully committed to Port?
Still non the wiser.
Does sound a bit wuss....edit suss
Maybe when Ollie returns some savvy reporter will ask the right question of Ollie himself.

Remember when the co-captains idea came up and we were all 'but what about our history and tradition', as if that was all we had to be worried about?

As it turns out the biggest problem wasn't the appointment of co-captains itself, it was the fact that the two guys we appointed to be co-captains aren't a leader's arseh*le between them, and they both had their worst on-field years for a long time if not ever.

It's actually amazing how many levels this decision has been an abject failure on. It was a terrible idea with even more terrible execution.

Well some of us were of the opinion Tom Jonas was barely AFL standard before the call was made & were hailed with stats etc. I recall.

Best chance of winning mate. Ken said it, KT supported it, and Koch believed it.

He'd been in the All Australian squad of 40 the previous two years. You don't make that squad as a Port Adelaide player without being pretty decent. He totally and completely faltered under the pressure of the captaincy.

He shouldnt be captain.

Should never had been made captain
In mind Ollie has 4 months to prove he deserves it.

Going to the US with Boaky would be a great start but he has a long way to go to prove that he deserves it and that he is loyal.

He's a scrubber always has been.

Wines wasn’t ready for the captaincy this season. But I think he’s ready now.

The Wines from last year wouldn’t have given up his time to go help in construction - he would have been on the river having a great time.

I think he’s realised that if you want to be a leader, there’s more to it than the title.

He wants out, he's not vocal, he's too nice & he's timid for his size.. great captaincy material.

Considering the penchant you have in turning on players in an instant I'm surprised you want someone who is not committed to the cause.

It's the very fact that he wants out that will make him a better captain.

I think the players didn't really want him as captain because of his penchant for being nice and not demanding excellence. But after this year, when pretty much everything that could go wrong did go wrong for him, he might have glimpsed his own football mortality and realised 'Shit, I'm 25 years old and I'm a captain that no one listens to. Maybe the problem is with me.'

Taking steps to fix your issues gets a big tick from me, as does going on a trip with the previous captain. It shows he's willing to address his faults.

Boak usually trains with conditioning coaches who train college players for NFL, so Wines will get run over if he doesn't start being more vocal.

By "taking steps to fix your issues" do you mean shopping himself around to clubs that are in the premiership window and deserting the men he is supposed to lead?

No, it was clear before he was appointed, that if you had to nominate one player type across the AFL most likely to be adversely affected by the 6-6-6 rules it'd be slow, undersized KPD's, who relied on starting (and continuing) having an overloaded defense to help them out. Tom Jonas was/is the poster boy for that sort of player. It was a dumb decision to make him a (co-)Captain then, with quite a few of us saying so, not just in hindsight. The rules haven't changed, so whether or not Wines is stripped of the co-Captaincy, Jonas should not be a Captain.

Also very possible he cracks the sulks because this got out and he just continues down the path of seeking a trade next year because it's easier than staying at Port. Especially if the staff in the club and supporters stop treating him like a golden child based on his first year output and promise and recognise that his past few years have been pretty average.

I guess we will be able to see which one it is at the end of the year. I'd hope that you are right and he becomes the player he has promised to be and leads the team like a captain should.

I'm not sure how seeking a trade to clubs like Essendon and Carlton screams excellence and drive. To me it seems like taking the easy option. If he really wanted to be the best and succeed he would have approached clubs with proven success to compete in finals with the coaching units to get the best out him, not the Melbourne equivalent of Port hoping to continue skiing through on reputation with the occasional good game

Rucci reckons the microphones and cameras will be waiting for Ollie when he returns.
He really has dug himself in a bit of a hole, as has the club.
2020 will be a testament to what he is really made of and if he indeed does leave at the end of 2020 there might not be much love lostf from some members.
Rucci believes he doesn’t yet have the maturity to be our captain, questions whether he was promised it with his last contract ( which would be yet another monumental club stuff up) and believes where there is smoke there is fire with the Carlton rumour .

I doubt it will happen but unless 'we' know exactly why this conversation ever started there can be no reasonable explanation.

Has Ollie's management thrown him under the proverbial bus in seeking more dollars?

Did Ollie express some (unknown) concerns in the direction Port were heading.

It's possible to have driven a B train sideways through all the public statements but without anything substantial, they remain just statements with zip value.

Awkward for all involved.

If Ken goes at end of next year I wonder if that will give Ollie even more reason to try to get a trade. Also interesting that his flat mate was Dougal who has left.

Wow .. serious piles of steaming :poo::poo: being written here!
EG... "So Wines had approached Carlton ... " ... So we call the club liars, and post blatant bullcrap like this! Hypocrites?

Just as a context ... think back to when Boak was approached by Geelong at the end of 2012, with their delegation of Scott, Selwood, and Bartel scooting into town to woo Boak to Geelong. The same Boak who was hailed a hero for staying and appointed captain a few months later.

Sure there were differences, but then there were also similarities. Do you honestly believe that Boak's manager hadnt spoken to Geelong before? Hadnt been in discussions about him going to Geelong? That Boak didnt know they were coming, hadnt entertained the thought of leaving? .... Lets make him captain! ... We did, and he turned out a damned good one!

Wines hasnt spoken to Carlton! There are no indications of any serious moves by him to move! He has had a terrible year, so has the team, the coaches, and the club. He, like most, would have been generally unhappy, and he specifically unhappy with Ken. His manager knows this, and his name comes up in hypothetical discussions with another club. How do you know his manager didnt raise his name in a discussion, come back to him for his views, and that he didnt tell his manager to get stuffed, he is staying?

There could be a something to it, or there could be nothing to it ... but we have some seriously childish dummy-spitting going on!
