Yep it's pretty clear a bad mistake was made, no point crying over spilled milk or doubling down on stupidity.

Edit: I will say the thing that still shits me about it is the total lack of accountability by the club. That someone can come out and shit all over a tradition due to "success", have no success, and there be no repercussions whatsoever is insane.

TBH I do not give a fu** what they do next year they have destroyed a 149 year tradition and a 50 year tradition with one ill conceived idea. It will take another 150 years to partly restore what they have destroyed.
It won't.

I'm not sure what Lycett has done to earn the captaincy. I like the guy but he shouldn't even be in consideration in my opinion.

I'm strongly in favour of going back to Boaky if he wants it back, he's got all the right attributes and there's no one better suited. Second preference would be Houston if he thinks he's ready.

It's easier with hindsight now but neither Jonas / Wines ever showed the professionalism / commitment that Travis has.

Lycett has "it" I dont know how "it" is tangible but he has what it takes to be captain

At this point we’re just stoked to have an option that:
- isn’t a bee’s dick from retirement
- has played in a winning final
- isn’t a dickhead

We've always seemed to do well under a ruck captain.

I like Lycett but pretty sure a fair few would pretty quickly describe him as a bit of a dickhead.
I reckon a few of the old crew at PAFC described Tredders the same way when he wanted to get the team more professional

In reality, to me the whole dual captaincy thing is peripheral stuff and is so far down the list of our myriad of problems it’s not funny. So the club is more than happy to elevate it as an issue now because they know they can eliminate it as an issue with the stroke of a pen and without the bottom line taking a hit.

“Port fans, you asked for one captain, we’re giving you one captain!!!!”

Yawn.

Meanwhile, we still have the worst coach in the AFL, a CEO unable to make hard calls, and a board guided by self interest.

The reality is if we want a player who isn't Boak (I don't think we should go backwards), and isn't Ollie or TJ, and is 25 or over, there aren't a huge amount of options.

Really it's Hammer or Slyce.

Ebo, Rocky & Dix are the only other guys that are even worth mentioning.

Hammer isnt worth mentioning. If he was out of contract this year he shouldve been delisted before Broadbent

All the criticisms of Wines and Jonas were being levelled at Boak too though. Not performing, not fronting up to media after losses, wrong mouthguard, etc.

Unless our culture changes (wins and lossess doesn't matter, work/life balance, etc.), it's going to be difficult to develop someone suitable for the role. Someone like Lycett who has been at a successful club would be a good choice for now.

So what position is Ken playing Wines and Jonas in, instead of their best positions that's stopping them not performing well? That's really the only criticism people had of Boak.

I wouldn't have delisted him, but he's not Captain material. I'm sure his looks will ensure he remains a favourite once a past player, but on talent/potential versus what he failed to achieve with it when he retires, he'll have to be in the top 3 of any conversation for our time in the AFL.

He’d be right up there for paypacket:actual performance too

As far as I am concerned, 2018 has been expunged from my memory bank! I would quite happily have Boak back as captain for the next two years, with Lycett & Houston as his deputies, with one of them (probably Houston) to be his successor.

Maybe an unpopular opinion ... Going backwards? Possibly, but sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward. I think Boak has the respect of the players, the ability to unite them again. There are obviously fractures that have formed, nowhere near as bad as the Crows, but certainly significantly enough to derail our season. Get Boak back in as captain, wearing No 1, to fix it. Then hand over a united playing group to a new captain, and a new coach!

That could end up being his biggest legacy to this club!

How many times has Dixon kicked 40+ goals in his 4 years at Port?
About as many times seasons as he's been a key forward not required to play too much in the ruck, run down the ground excessively and/or have Sam Gray/Jake Neade as his only fellow KPF in Ken's game plan.
