Port Adelaide - Can They Hack It In The Big Time League?

Mate, your understanding of economics sounds like you think it's better to own outright a 2 bedroom flat in Broadmeadows, than it is to own a 5 bedroom house in Toorak with a 30% LVR.

my understanding is fine.

from the last set of financials i can find ports net assets is only $4m with. $25m assets vs $21m in liabilities....this is before reports they raised debt by $12m, yikes!

maybe i'm conservative to you but i'd rather be in norths position with $11.7m assets - $21m in assets and only $9m in liabilities.

how on earth does port have so many members and crowd numbers yet only have $4m in net assets to show for it, $7m less than north! Port only has $4m in assets more than north and the debt is being increased!

But Port had massive debt and required a bailout years back when COVID wasn't a thing.

Issue is clearly structural.

North Melbourne received more than $6m in additional distribution in the last non-covid year (2019).

If there's something 'wrong' with Port Adelaide, North are just as guilty.

So Eddie says we get more money in distribution than the pies, (which is true) - their jumper is worth lots (which is true)....

Port to the AFL - 'Can we wear the bars as it's a major revenue raiser and link to heritage, our supporters hand over $$$$$$' for them (which is true) - AFL to Port 'Collingwood says no'.... so keep being poor but please find ways to improve your financial position.

Oh ok then....

Which is either an outright fabrication or you once again showing your inabilities to read financial information.

Port's total debt is $12m. A debt that Port's revenue is capable of servicing, so its pointless to even bring it up.

nah can read them fine, there is no financials publicly available for 2020 it seems.

Port has decent revenues, but their profit is only 0.05% of their revenue, imagine a 5% drop in revenue.....they won't be able to service shit.

He is a troll and does not represent the vast majority of Roos fans on this forum, who are mostly fair and open minded posters.

I don't think it's fair to malign North Melbourne and it's supporters from the rantings of one insecure peanut..

Why won’t port adopt the prison stripes but not black and white?

other teams wear stripes. Would Eddie have blocked hawthorn adopting stripes if he was around in the fifties?

Port wont mess the PB design and frankly why should they black and white are part of Ports official club colours.

The guernsey is the guernsey.
Changing colours is the same as changing the design.

The PB guernsey is an icon of our club, hence we want to wear it, unadulterated, in Showdown games and possibly also ANZAC Round home games, to celebrate our heritage.

We already have guernseys that use teal and silver which, as far as I know, is the long term plan for the club to continue with. The chevrons are here to stay, regardless of what some supporters say.

Eddies gone now, so wear them.

Here is why it's different and unique. It should be celebrated as part of the tapestry of footy in this country. No other traditional club exists outside of Victoria apart from PAFC.

It's probably the most unique black and white gurneys going (worldwide), nobody has the horizontal bar at all - it also reflects 'place' bring the wharf and it's pylons.

Something must be happening Ed doesn't like as why would he bring it up on national TV....

Cant the AFL just grow up...

Boy oh Boy, port fans really have no clue about finance and economics. The last one said revenue is more important than profit and now you're comparing port to national government debts. They can have insane debt because they're a currency issuer, it doesn't matter how much debt they get into, they can simply issue more currency. It's variables such as inflation, unemployment and interest rates that have to be moderated through the issuing of currency. The debt level is irrelevant.

Port is not a debt issuer, you have to produce surpluses, very significant surpluses to pay your debt back. Port were minor premiers last year and still didn't make a profit! Very concerning.

What happens to your bottomline here?

Either the AFL gives Tasmania a date for entry to the league, or the State Government cuts funding to Hawthorn and North Melbourne, leaving multi-million-dollar holes in their balance sheets.

Finances and economics. You have to produce surpluses. Perhaps I used the wrong post (perhaps not) to point out that NM finances are precarious despite posting a profit and their supporters should watch after their own club before ripping into other clubs.
What does North have to do with ports finances? I'm been talking about port, not North.

Would have done more on his previous names too.
The thing that really pissed me off was some guy who knows him writing an article a few years ago about what a genius he is.
He's not a genius, he's just someone wasting his life.
