"The club received just over $4 million in assistance from the SANFL in 2011, including $2.05 million held over from 2010 and a further $2 million made available through a loan to the SA Football Commission from the AFL."

the club doesnt agree with you.

Yeah Macca19 this guy is right: From the SANFL we received 2.05 million held over from 2010 plus 2 million from the SANFL via the AFL - which totals 4.05 million. This is not even close to the 4.05 milliion that you quoted earlier.

What a disgraceful thread.

The Port team from 2002-2004 was one of the best teams of the last 20 years. They may have themselves in a bit of a mess now, but SA certainly need to have at least two teams in a National comp.

Tell me why it's a disgraceful thread?

Address the points made in the OP, this club does not do due diligence when selecting it's major sponsors, fails to attract quality staff, loses players, drains the AFL financially, has been ear marked as a club which could be chopped by the AFL in 2017.

It's performance as a club in the last few years has been diabolical.

Having a quick look at their 2011 annual report, the number of payments made to companies headed by board members in 2010 in particular is unreal.

Why would you or the AFL want to strip them of their license?

If this was a VIC club maybe, but it goes against everything Vlad has been doing, to remove a SA team because they are going through a bad patch.

Thanks for not answering the question, probably because you cant.

I did answer the question. I explained why the thread was a terrible.

The thread is stupid because the AFL won't strip them of their license. It makes no sense. So why should I add comment to a hypothetical situation that simply will not happen?

the club doesnt agree with you.

$2.05m held from 2010
$2m through loan to SAFC from the AFL
= $4.05 million, or "just over $4m"

In the actual annual report itself:
- Page 4 - "recieved $4.05 million in grants"
- Page 6 under review of operations - "$4.05 million was recieved in 2011"
- Page 9 in the Cash Flow Statement - Receipts from Grants - $4,050,000....or $4.05 m.

having your distribution reduced is the same as being subsidised.

It hasnt been reduced. Over the past 10 years the amount has increased, not decreased. The SANFL set the figure in 2000 that we were to pay. Once the licence fee was paid off, this amount was then increased again around 2007.

how much would you have lost if the playing field was even, you didnt get any handouts and you paid your way the same as the AFC.

Around $3.2m or roundabouts.

its okay to say Port will be 'fine', but you dont seem to get your future depends solely on those who are handing out millions and millions to you each and every year deciding that that is money well spent.

I never said we will be fine. All I have said is that we are not alone in being a club with big financial issues.

It's taken directly from your clubs website, you seem to be in the know, who is it?

More than happy to apologise for suggesting the club has no list manager, but I can only go on what the club presents, the disclosure doesn't appear to be up to scratch.

I would think that a professional club would list those responsible for holding pivotal positions at the club.

So, who is it?

THe google search comes up with an old list. Our list manager, who resides in Victoria, and is full time, is Jason Cripps.

they had a perfectly good sponsor lined a year or two ago and it wouldve been their biggest sponsor but the AFL blocked it because it was a brewery that wasn't Carlton and united brewers

Much appreciated, thankyou for supplying this information.

I apologise for suggesting that Port Adelaide have no list manager. It's comforting to know this pivotal role is not vacant, even if he is operating remotely from Victoria.

So the club entered into discussions with a potential new sponsor, despite every single club being made aware of who the AFL's protected sponsors are at the start of each AFL season.

Top management.

Feel bad for Freo supporters here. Everytime i read a thread title like this, i think to myself 'please dont be a roos supporter, please dont be a roos supporter'.

Every single club is aware that Toyota is a protected sponsor, silly GWS for getting Skoda to sponsor them only to find that there are rules and there are 'rules'.

I can only guess this poster is about 12 and has lived through Fremantle's 'glory' years which coincides with WA being a powerhouse resource state. I generally like Freo fans they are usually self-deprecating.

Tucked away on the last page.

- Buidling products and services by Built Environs, of which Mr O'connor is a director - $3 467 860
- Goods and Services provided by Marksman Property Investment, of which Mr Panas is Managing Director - $263,636

If you want to make an accusation, have the balls to do it.

Lol at 'tucked away'. It's in the annual report FFS.

I find it questionable that Port Adelaide entered into agreements with companies owned, managed and directed by board members to the tune of millions of dollars.

How does Port being in the AFL affect you OP? Did the big bad Port touch you in your special spot when you were a child?

Bully mentality.

All of a sudden Freo are no longer the laughing stock of the AFL, so it's time to sink the boots in to the present one. (not having a go at port, just pointing out the OP's mentality.

Am mindful that the OP supports a team that in all of its existence has never been at top of the ladder - even for a round.

Port has been a multiple minor premier, and won the 2004 premiership.

Clubs go through troughs. Port's in one at the moment. They won't be forever.
