Port Adelaide is not worthy of an AFL licence

Am mindful that the OP supports a team that in all of its existence has never been at top of the ladder - even for a round.

Port has been a multiple minor premier, and won the 2004 premiership.

Clubs go through troughs. Port's in one at the moment. They won't be forever.

Exactly. If this was one of the 10 Vic clubs, I could understand the calls for folding/merging, but in this growing national comp, we are not going to lose any interstate clubs. It is just a pointless discussion.

Answer his question.

Why do you want Port to fold?

Harsh, probably.

Fair absolutely.

This is a club which simply cannot get itself together, on or off the field.

It is an absolute joke that Port Adelaide enter into the dawning of a new era in Free Agency without a coach at the helm, a joke that Port Adelaide do not have a coach having any input into this years drafting.

The club is in Limbo, their draft strategy, list model and recruiting mindset are scrambled, why no coach, Ken Hinkley is likely to get the nod, but given that Ratten and Cameron were favoured to snare the gig it's not certainty.

The club's members are testament to the appalling standard with which the club operates and frankly, if the AFL have their way, after underwriting 1.25 million dollars of the clubs debt last year, Port Adelaide will not have a licence in 2017.

This club makes poor choices when choosing chief sponsors http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/business/my-atm-brought-to-asics-notice/story-e6frede3-1226312795005.

Makes poor errors when choosing coaches, was Primus handed the keys with a slap on the back.

The club does not have a full time list manager, has a joke of a recruiting network and virtually no development staff.

Port survive simply because the AFL needed them for the TV rights deal, if Port can't pull their finger out in the next 4 years they will cease to exist.

It is a fate which should bought forward to the present.

This competition is meant to be elite, Port Adelaide, as it currently stands, do not deserve the privilege of playing in the AFL.

How does Port being in the AFL affect you OP? Did the big bad Port touch you in your special spot when you were a child?

Good point, why would the AFL want to get rid of any of the clubs and then what, create a new one that has the same issues, better the devil you know and when the club finally moves away from AAMI they should start to improve their bottom line.

It seem that as Freo have now tasted a hint of success some of their supporters forget how bad the club has been for so many years, Port will pick themselves up just give it time.

But why do you want them to fold?

Do you want byes every week?

Do you want another ridiculously outclassed start up club?

Do you think Freo will somehow benefit?

Sure you can laugh at them or pity them depending on you personality, but what would you possible gain from them folding?

How can the OP say that the club makes poor choices when choosing head coaches?

They chose John Cahill for 1997 - which was the most logical coaching choice outside of bringing Fos Williams out of retirement.

He left and was replaced by Mark Williams, who took them to numerous finals series and coached their first flag.

He was sacked and they appointed Matthew Primus. Hindsight proves this to be a less-than-awesome choice, but who's to say someone else would have done better?

They haven't appointed their fourth-ever senior coach. Regardless of who the choice is, there's no way to tell whether or not they'll be successful. That's only a conversation to be held in the past tense. Who does the OP think they should have hired? Rodney Eade (aka the guy who's coached more VFL/AFL games than anyone for a return of 0 premierships)? Brett Ratten?

This thread is an exercise in the sublimely ridiculous, created by someone fishing for a bite.

Read the OP, Port Adelaide damage the brand, drain the AFL of funds and quite frankly are an incompetent club in a professional sporting org, as a stakeholder I'd prefer to see this game continue to be an elite competition and not dragged down by the incompetence of the few.

Please take the time to list the successes of the Fremantle Football Club, especially when compared to Port Adelaide (a club who came into the league two years later than Freo).

I'll make it easy for you - I'll kick it off, you fill out the rest of the five:

1) Membership figures higher than Port Adelaide
2)
3)
4)
5)

The same could/was said of Freo for the first 10 years of their existence, they seem to be going OK financially now (even regardless of being in the growth state).

Or do you want another 2 compromised drafts?

If you want to make an accusation, have the balls to do it.

Lol at 'tucked away'. It's in the annual report FFS.

Are you not concerned that your club, let's assume you're a member, in itself a generous assumption, paid over $3.5 million dollars of the clubs money to parties owned and managed by board members of the Port Adelaide Football club?

None of that outweighs the issues of getting rid of them. Let alone the Freo irony.

Fremantle have nothing to do with this thread.

It's an easy approach for those who cannot mount a counter argument. Cheap, low tactics to avoid the reality of the situation.

Didn't Port Adelaide enter the AFL AFTER Fremantle?

Didn't Port Adelaide have an AFL premiership 8 years after being in the AFL?

Honestly pretty shit from the OP. Would have only been worse if it was GC, GWS or University.

On further inspection, a total of $3,782,319 were made in payments to related parties between 2010 and 2011.

Mr Duncanson, Mr Basheer, Mr O'connor, Mr Panas and Mr House were all directors or owners of companies who received payment from Port Adelaide Football club, whilst also being PAFC directors.

It would be an interesting exercise to examine the tender process for each of these payments.

> Reads OP
> Sees that he follows fremantle (out of all teams) and thinks another club isn't worthy to be in AFL
> Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool at how much of a hypocrite the ****** is

4/5 were SANFL appointed board members who have since been removed/stepped down after a KT organised review of the board - which makes you wonder again WTF are the SANFL doing. But you are correct it is never good to see impartiality in an annual statement

It's always a good thread when the OP replies to himself, as if to provide an agreeance.

I miss footy already.

Millions of dollars of the clubs money were paid to companies owned, operated or directed by board members.

I find that astonishing.
