Scandal Port Adelaide Player SPP Charged With Inappropriate Contact

First of all SPP is not a superstar, if the AFL wanted to sabotage you there are much easier and better ways to go about it.

Secondly it would not suprise me if Port don't like it. I would believe a AFL outcome over Ports version of events anyday.

Thirdly, has Port considered this kid is lying? Not like he is gonna admit to doing it unless he wants to throw away his career.

While some of that may end up being the case, Port Adelaide needs to be provided with a copy of the full report and brief of evidence.

And I imagine they will this week, otherwise this has dragged on for three weeks which is a week too many.

Will be intresting to see how they came to their conclusion.

Um, have actually you read anything about what Koch has said? He's said Port have watched the same CCTV footage that the AFL got and saw nothing.

AFL could easily have more footage and have other compelling evidence then a chunk of CCTV.

Plus it is possible the incident was not captured on CCTV.

It that was the case they would have earlier shown it to Port so we'd then have to bend over and take whatever sanctions that they are suggesting, they are playing poker with a losing hand at the moment.

The AFL are complete ****in idiots for investigating this, it’s only ever going to lead to stupid shitfights and it won’t resolve a single thing for anybody involved.

They don’t know what they’re doing. They’re not equipped to investigate crimes ffs.

“We encourage you to report the matter to police and we will cooperate fully with their investigation.” End of story.

This is crazy. Her only mistake was going to the media. Going to the club, yeah ok I get that, go to his employer and let them know hes a dickhead. Media is a mistake she is probably away of.

I think she has learnt that she should just go straight to the police in future.

I don't know, I think if she went to police it may have been some time for the investigation, and there wouldn't be the attention to the issue
This way there is immediate attention, reputational impact etc. Gets possibly more satisfaction for victim than the legal process which may end up with nothing (as different standard of proof)

This all sounds normal.

AFL have come to a very different conclusion to Port on this incident.

Port have have consulted a QC who has backed their approach

Port has asked the AFL to disclose their evidence which the AFL has thus far failed to do.

If the AFL are not grandstanding and improperly using the young fella to burnish their respect and responsibility credentials, which I am sure they would never do, the AFL will release all the evidence they have.

We are waiting.

Interesting situation. IMHO the AFL should be compelled to hand over the report in its entirety, along with the grounds on which they believe that form the basis of any ongoing penalty. This situation is not doing the AFL any good either, especially if it just keeps people on the negative about its greatest asset, the players. I have no knowledge at all other than published reports, but the situation leads me to believe that there may have been additional witnesses who have come forward to the AFL and that has formed the basis of their report.

There may be more witnesses.

Interestingly, Koch has said the whole evening was captured by CCTV which Port have viewed so it should not be too difficult to sort out.

Caro's said a few times now that the victim in question regrets getting the media involved at all and wish she just went to Port and the AFL on the issue. Says something doesn't it?

Time will tell I guess. If there's any substance, then the AFL owe it to the alleged victim and the alleged perpetrator to bring this to a conclusion quickly. Can't help thinking though that if there was any 'smoking gun' then it would have been referred to the police.

Lets clarify this

Channel Seven Adelaide reported on Monday night that Powell-Pepper, 20, was alleged to have put his hand down a woman’s skirt at an Adelaide nightclub.

Everyone agrees 7 reported Monday night.

The woman was reported to be "overwhelmed" with Port's response after speaking to the club on Monday.

It seems to me that Caro has her wires crossed. The alleged victim DID go to the club BEFORE 7 reported on the story. I have heard a 2nd interview from the woman saying she regretted nothing. ( I have tried to find a link)

Well, that's what the victim told Caro; but I suspect the initial motivation for going to the media (rather than police) was closer to what I conjecture.

And doesn't it say something that the victim would rather go to your employer than to the police?

My initial point was about how going to the police is 1) difficult and 2) often not timely and 3) ineffective (Due to higher standards of proof)

Could not agree more....I am trying to find where in the AFL's Charter they are geared to handle potential criminal investigations.

Looking at that vision again, and it might not even be the same girl that made the complaint, but the girl in white top and beige skirt obviously had serious concerns about keeping her skirt held down which is not usually of the highest priority when leaving a nightclub at that time of the night unless someone has tried to have a quick grope.
Maybe the AFL smell smoke.

A lot of ifs and maybes... Cant charge the bloke for that.

There is a reason the AFL never, ever says anything like this to an investigative body outside of their own juridiction, whether it's the police, the world drug testing body or restraint of trade lawyers.
