I find it completely out of character for the AFL to keep their "investigation" open. Usually they'd be more than happy to shy away from any controversy! They must have something up their sleeve or a particular angle to lean toward. They'll spin this into a positive for them some how. "AFL on the front foot, leaders against whatever he has been accused and found innocent of" Not to mention they'd be lapping up the media talk, even if its at the expense of SPP.

Isn’t it great how you are unofficially ‘suspended’ whilst this google-search / “it’s Mabo, the vibe” based investigation drags on. It’s quite amazing this doesn’t have a higher profile in the media to be honest, he should have got a week for breaking club rules, any subsequent suspension to he served after the investigation is complete. This is really farcical.

Interesting listening to Rucci on 3AW last night insinuating that the AFL want SPP to sign a statement apologising for his actions and to attend a respect and responsibility course.
SPP on the other hand refusing to sign because not only does he deny doing anything wrong but also the fact that he was actually that drunk that he has no idea if he did do anything wrong.
Therefore, as there is no apparent concrete evidence he is not going to take the rap just to appease the AFL and be allowed to play again whilst having to have this hanging over his head for the rest of his life.
Gee this all sounds so familiar to essemdon supporters...

This and more this.
EAD kochie you flog.
A 3 week a 3 decade investigation?
Nah the AFL are trying to build up credits for something else at the expense of a young lad out in the burbs.

Guilty of what? Have they said what yet?

How the **** can you deny doing anything wrong if you're so drunk you can't remember what happened??

How the **** can you admit doing anything wrong if you're so drunk that you can't remember what happened??
Both very valid points.

I do hope that his mates , the ones there with him , have helped him remember or even let him know if he did anything.

Why do all these footballers have shit mates?? Wheres that responsible mate who looks after them knowing that he can't just get pissed the way he did in public.

Unfortunately its a gravy train. And its not footballers alone. Every sporting talent has people who just want to keep the good times rolling.

How the **** can you admit taking 'banned' substances when you don't believe you have taken them....
How can you possibly believe you have not taken banned drugs when you don't know what the **** you took? ;)

Cmon. Show us the report.....

Good on your guys for standing up for your player. This is where some feeble minded numbnut like Trigg would throw the kid under the bus if he thought it would help him get an AFL gig. If the AFL want the player sanctioned further, provide the ammunition to the club. Otherwise, GAGF.

First of all SPP is not a superstar, if the AFL wanted to sabotage you there are much easier and better ways to go about it.

Secondly it would not suprise me if Port don't like it. I would believe a AFL outcome over Ports version of events anyday.

Thirdly, has Port considered this kid is lying? Not like he is gonna admit to doing it unless he wants to throw away his career.

If the AFL has evidence that the kid is lying, they only need to open up their investigation to Port. Why won't they do that, I'd have thought it a given.

Ultimately it’s because the AFLs more about the look- and contrived outcomes behind closed doors.

Get him to agree to some charge and negotiated penalty and the whole thing goes away, but in this case he’s flatly refusing, whereas I suspect the expectation was he’d just accept their findings and get it over and done with.

The fact Koch mentioned lawyers says the club is pretty confidence in the evidence they have there’s not much there - if the AFL has more, why not give it to the club and move on from there.

I might just remind you of the outcome of the last club that decided to “shove it up” the AFL by threatening/going to court.....

No need to we already know.
They went after the easy targets to try and get people to think they are a good organisation.

Good on Kochie. At least clubs are considering the fact that they need to protect their players (from the the AFL). The AFL is an organisation that is protecting its brand, and it will do so at all costs - even at the cost of player welfare. I suspect the AFL will do so even if it wouldn't hold up in a court of law. We will see, but I am looking forward to this. On face value, and with limited information, other than the fact that the incident didn't warrant SPP to be charged, it would be reasonable to assume the AFL don't have a lot going for them.
