I'd go any free agents -

Lynch - Westy retires Watts on wing, Marshall 3rd forward and time to develop.

Dahlhaus- replace Boak, play high half forward

Even maybe Gaff... dunno why

Then trade out/delist fringe over 23 like Broady, or Thomas/Mackenzie/Trengove

Compelling. But truths dont seem to matter on Bigfooty with many opposition posters

Like you can’t beat a top 8 team, your celery is cooked, every player port recruits was never wanted by anyone else and they only came because we offer them double their worth.

Gaff would be really good, we need a quality right footed wingman like him. motlop can rotate but play more half forward.

The next big name player we have to raid has to have plenty of finals and finals winning experience unless its a star like Lynch from the GC. Sine the 2012 turnaround and the start of free agency this is who we have brought in from other clubs via trade, free agency and the drafts

2012
Trade Campbell Heath 0 finals games
Trade Jack Hombsch 0 finals games
Trade Angus Monfries 2 finals games for 2 losses
Trade Jake Neade 0 finals games
Trade Lewis Stevenson 0 finals games

2013
Trade Jared Polec 0 finals games
Free Agent Matt White 0 finals games

2014
Trade Paddy Ryder 2 finals games for 2 losses
Rookie 16 Nathan Krakouer 0 finals games

2015
Trade Charlie Dixon 0 finals games
Trade Jimmy Toumpas 0 finals games

2017
Trade Jack Watts 0 finals games
Free Agent Steven Motlop 12 finals games 4 wins and 8 losses
Free Agent Tom Rockliff 0 finals games
Free Agent Trent McKenzie 0 finals games
Free Agent Jack Trengove 0 finals games
Rookie 12 Lindsay Thomas 9 finals games 4 wins and 5 losses

So I'd like to see us go after someone who has played about 15 finals and had finals success. Mitchell showed his worth to WCE in the elimination final especially the first half and then at extra time he was effectively coaching the players on what to do.

We'd be needing to go the Mitchell type route of grabbing a player from a side that's been successful and is now clearly on the way down. We've sold that we're a team on the way up to our traded in good players (the role or fringe players like Heath, Toumpas will go wherever they can keep playing).

For sustained success we'd be wanting to tap players from Geelong or Sydney (the Hawks all their decent premiership players are either retired, elsewhere already or too old to go after). The rest of the sides haven't been consistently around finals enough to target players based on finals success (on being quality yes though). Geelong is facing a cliff, with their decent players nearing or retiring. It's the Swans players I'd target, but they need to slide some this year to pry any out on the promise of more success elsewhere.

The Hawks were smart they got a mix of guys who had finals experience and success
Burgoyne played 14 finals with Port 2 GFs and a flag in that
Lake played 11 finals inc 3 prelim finals

And others who were good players but not much finals experience, Gibson, Hale and McEvoy had all played 4 or 5 finals and made it to a PF and McEvoy made the GF replay in 2010, Gunston, Frawley, etc. Even getting Matt Spangher who had been on a list with West Coast and Sydney when they won flags even though he didn't play in them, had value and he played in the 2015 flag.

Pretty sure Gaff is left-footed, plays a very similar style of game to Polec but at a higher level of consistency.

Bwahaha.
May as well sign David MacKay from the Cows.
Time to pull out an AFC favourite.

i like the idea of getting players with finals winning experience. But they'd have to be bloody good to break into our side.

I thought B.Harvey when he retired would've been good. But I'm not sure a player like this (slightly over the hill) gets a game now...

Despite an aggressive post-season recruiting campaign in which they landed three players, Port Adelaide’s salary cap position in 2018 has the club positioned to snare another significant player.

Port are entering the season with a list that is, on average, younger than in 2017 – a surprising outcome in view of their aggression at the trading table. They drafted five teenagers, in addition to those mature-age recruits.

interesting ..

I wonder what areas (defence / midfield / forward) we will target in our next raid. .. .

That pic makes me laugh every time. The look on his face and the way he's leaning away makes it look like he's holding a cup of warm horse jizz than some yoghurt he's meant to be promoting.

$1.2m for McGovern **** me

Best one on one defender in the game. Excellent intercept mark. Can go forward and kick goals.

If Lever is worth $800k, McGovern is with $1.2m easily.
