I still do not get this free kick for kicking the ball out without it being touched. There are times when the ball is kicked, bounces out without anyone touching it and the ball is thrown in while other times a free is awarded. Is this just inconsistent umpiring? It is another shit rule anyway as it often penalises the player busting a gut to clear the ball from defence.

You could just google the rule instead of complaining. Its only a last touch free if it is between the arcs. And it is a good rule for this league.

Last disposal are only between the arcs.

Levicki's ball handling skills are horrific. Any time she tries to control the ball in any situation it looks like she's trying to handle a bar of soap.

She is no orphan. Basic skills are a real issue in our squad. As I posted last week there is a solution but I doubt that Koch and Co will do anything about it.

I didn't watch the game except for checking the score on occasion, and I didn't see Phillips at all.
Did she get involved in any of the scoring?

Patchy, but she did some good things. I am not sure how Erin is being used these days as she didn't take a shot on goal that I saw.

Missed the first quarter and got to Alberton just after the 2nd quarter started.

Gemma Houghton made a huge difference compared to the last 3 weeks. She didnt do much but provide a target and a contest.

Ive said it before but we have too many see ball get ball types which means we dont really have an outside game and the better oppo do and kill us as a result on the outside.

Get Hannah Ewings playing closer to goal. That 45m kick in the last quarter into the wind was a thing of beauty. I was upstairs in The precinct up against the glass wall middle of the pub and I thought she might kick this as she let go a step after the 50m.

But our players read it poorly, it was off hamds 5m out in the goal square and Mules doesnt know how to soccer a ground ball and then when she snapped, she missed kicked it.

Talking of players reading it poorly I just saw a head shaker in the Sydney v Essendon game. A Sydney player was awarded a 50m penalty and duly jogged the 50 metres down the ground without an Essendon player going with her when she reached the mark there was no Essendon player on the mark so she casually ran another 10 metres and goaled from 25 metres. From inside the centre square to the goal mouth without an opponent bothering to show up. Geez if that had happened in our game we would be spewing.

I think that was one of our better games. Maybe our best. We were still hard and tough in the contest but were a lot cleaner with the ball and looked way more damaging going inside 50. At the end of the day North were just able to get free to often and that was the difference. Probably a combination of fitness and some game sense was what caused that. We should be able to bridge that gap over time.

O'Dea is our B&F winner in a canter. Just a fantastic footballer - hard, uses the ball well and really smart. One of the underrated skills in AFL, especially for defenders, is to know when you can hold onto a ball in a tackle and when you need to get rid of it. She is an expert.

I thought that was Surman's best game for the club by some margin. Last week I thought she was absolutely terrible but this week was much cleaner and used the ball significantly better with some shorter kicks inside 50.

Johnson did a couple of nice things. Certainly has the skill set to be a handy player but just needs to build consistency that will come in time.

Boag was good again.

Ewings is pretty close to ripping a game apart. She is always a couple of steps or a couple of seconds from breaking free from the stoppage and getting out into space. With a bit more experience and another pre season she will be able to do that.

Cockatoo-Motlap is a real hard nut. Doesn't do much with the ball but defensive stuff is real good.

Dunn and Levicki make some pretty poor errors for more senior players. And there are some younger girls that haven't shown much, like Halfpenny and Syme. We should continue to give rotate players into the team to see what they have got, as we have done with Cockatoo-Motlap and Johnson.
