Port Adelaide's plan to use jumpers similar to Collingwood

Sturt should be fine - Carlton supporters seem to be openly hostile to the light blue clash strip experiment

CFC supporters generally hate any kind of deviation away from the traditional strip. Even the white, which looks fantastic IMO, is pretty polarising.

There's definitely scope to introduce a club with light blue colours. It actually worked really well as a contrasting strip for away games, and IIRC North tried playing in a lighter strip.

The light blue looks great for soccer clubs, and I like the Sturt guernsey in its current form.

If Eddie wants to carry on about contracts that no one has ever seen and hand shake agreements this holds as much weight as what he's carrying on about.

Eddie McGuire trying to desperately to stay relevant these days. It's kinda pathetic to kick up a storm about this and it would be good if the AFL for once came out and established exactly who runs the competition.

Strange situation where Pies supporters are generally quite reasonable - see this thread for examples - but their president gets triggered by the smallest things and foams at the mouth.

Time for Collingwood to stop letting this hasbeen be the embodiment of their club, the club is much more than Eddie and will be a force long after he is gone.

Never seen someone so consistently offended by something not even remotely resembling a big deal.

Port should be campaigning in the opposite direction and requesting they wear the strip in all games except against Collingwood, out of necessity.

FWIW Port's traditional home strip is far better looking than Collingwood's traditional prison bar guernsey.

the AFL is an 18-team league. each team's identity is unique. Eddie is protecting his club's identity. As Chairman that's what he should be doing.

How is it Eddie trying to stay relevant? He was asked the question and responded. So much tall-poppy syndrome.

Yep he called a press conference just to let people know.

There are teams in the league with the same colours, and a swath of teams globally that wear black and white: it's not a 'unique' colour combination in any sense.

Collingwood are still the Magpies and Port Adelaide are still the Power, and their traditional guernsey styles are completely different.

Port have complete grounds to push for their original guernsey.

But it's not their original guernsey.

I'm not disputing port's push. But Collingwood also have grounds to protect their identity.

The AFL is an 18-team league in Australia. Collingwood's identity is unique in the AFL. It's magpies with black and white stripes. That's what Eddie is protecting. Just because folks don't agree with it doesn't mean it doesn't exist to the club.

Then why would it matter what they wear?
Because it's what they want to wear.

I thought they were celebrating 150 years, well they weren't wearing black and white 150 years ago.
I didn't know we had to make everything like it was in the past if we want to celebrate or commemorate a past event. I suppose when 250 years since the First Fleet settlement comes up we should all dress like convicts and go steal someone's land if we want to commemorate it?

If that's what you want to do, then go do it.
