So, sports radio in WA reckon Walsh is a lock to stay (even Woosha thinks this), while radio in Adelaide think he's 100% gone. Something has to give.

Walsh's for all!

Random idea popped into my head.

If Port want Ebert, how about we get Butcher involved in the deal. There is speculation that he wants to leave back to Victoria. So how about we broker a 3 way deal, for example...

Ebert to Port
Butcher to Carlton
Yarran to Eagles

Currently, Carlton would be losing in that deal, but Butcher's potential is huge. Furthermore, Port can use the impending departure of Butcher to snare their boy Ebert.

I say we should stop throwing up Butchers name being involved in a potential deal. He would definitely be untouchable. And even if Port were resigned to the fact he is going to leave, then Ebert will not get the deal done.

lol

There is no way that Butcher = Ebert.

Of course not. Yet Ebert is no spud either. It's impossible to trade exact like for like. Unless of course you had Quinz's clone machine.

Nevertheless, I think that can be the foundation for a good deal. Additional player or pick, would make it more equitable for all clubs involved.

I'd give up Ebert + pick 23 for Yarran.

Can't see Carlton giving up Yarran though, even for Butcher.

Blues would offer Hampson + a pick for Butcher and be much better off.

I know that it is very sad, but let's face it, half of the Port supporters have already walked away - they don't want to support an under-supported and under-resourced team that keeps on being smashed. And nothing is about to change. Even when they were at their playing best, Port struggled to pull a decent crowd. Reality bites - a lack of a support base = lack of funds and sponsorships = endless tough times. Soul won't pay the rent. And Port can't rely upon AFL handouts endlessly to dig them out of a hole. It is time to cut the losses and re-structure for the benefit of SA football as a whole.

A re-badged new SA club (replacing Port) will have a minimal impact upon the Crows. As with the Dockers v Eagles impact, there will be room enough to grow the new club to a similar size as the Crows over time. And let's face it, even Power supporters would also get on board just so that they can stick it up the Crows. It is not only smart, it is the only way the Crows will have any serious local competition on a regular basis in the future. Good luck whichever way it goes.

i would expect better from a poster on a wa board who should have seen people make assumptions from out of state about his club based on misinformation and ill-conceived notions.

firstly, things always look shiny bright when things are going good and vice versa. when all the out of state clubs were winning premierships they held big meetings about what was wrong with victorian football, now everything is all rosy the only difference i can see is a mass of priority picks in that state.

secondly if you dont count home derbys when vic sides are buoyed by 2 home sides fans ( ie richmond v collingwood) but look at attendences vs teams from out of state ( richmond v west coast) there is very little difference between what we average and they do. i actually believe our home crowds vs out of state teams is larger than a few of the victorian clubs average against out of state teams.

financially port has been bound by the ropes installed when the crows first come into being by an agreement between the afl and sanfl. the sanfl takes both clubs earnings and plunges back into it as necessary, but the sanfl is their first priority. moves have been made to free us from this but it will take a considerable bit of time. the move from a stadium 20 mins from town ( much more in peak traffic like game time) that gave us sfa back in gate takings to an inner-city location with easier access and a better deal at the gate will help us going forward.

where do you get the idea we are under-resourced from?? you do realise we have some of the best faccilities in the league dont you?? you may be throwing a blanket assumption over the entire club off one thing in the laidley case in which we were hand-tied by laidley asking to go home to his family and the options being part-time bailey, camporeale, an unknown, or throw enough money at another assistant to get him to walk away from his current club. crows and essendon ( or carlton i forget now?) fans have very poor opinions of campo as a coach, the club has said they did not rate any available assistant as being better than a part-time laidley. as for the other option either we could not lure a contracted assistant to walk away from his club or could not offer them what it would take to convince someone to make that move ( an effect of sacking choco we had to pay out his contract).

i never followed afl without port adelaide and would lose that passion for the game if they were no longer in the competition. many fans would be the same.

the only way the crows will have serious competition???

are you aware that the record between the 2 teams is 17 wins to 14 in ports favour?? or that port are the only sa team to win a grand final in the last decade?? that adelaide are only several wins above us and have sacked their coach this year but you single us out??

butcher will re-sign as all our young gun kids have been. one day if he does decide to go elsewhere every team needing a gun forward will be at his door and any offers of goodish / average player will be uttered at cost of their own credibility.

as for ebert well im hoping we dont go after him. he does ok for you guys but is an honest tryer who will give his best effort but never have the skills to be a damaging player. the kind of player you dont really bust yourself to get but somehow end up with a few who maybe didnt turn out what you wanted. absolute no way it will involve our first pick no matter what other things get thrown in. as our pp/ 2nd round in an average draft ( at least at that depth anyway) will be below what you would expect i find it hard to see a deal unless we trade a player or in a 3way. i dont see alot of our available ( ebert/ mots etc) trade players to carry much weight that would get us any higher pick than our 2nd round either. we have a high psd pick but i dont see that as likely in this case from the club and especially unlikely from the player. i really cannot see a way it would work easily. to be honest port adelaide have massive depth in the good to average midfielder department we barely need another one. what we need is a couple more top class mids with great skills ( ie a couple more top 5 picks would be great!!).

Yep your right. Stuck at work on a friday arvo clock watching. Tends to lead to rage.

On a side note, super keen to watch tonights game.
