Good luck to Porter.

He always gave 100% when he played for us. I'm surprised that he got delisted as he would've been a useful backup ruckman.

Can I assume that Jeremy Clayton has survived?

l think you can assume correctly, today is the deadline for delistings and that is final delisting. So unless Jeremy quits the club himself, he will be there next year.

Remember when he ran down Crwford in that great game against Hawthorn last year? Unlike some of the more petulant talents on our list the guy made the most of his ability and always gave his all. Whats the bet he ends up back at Carlton!

I'm not sure I understand this decision. While I understand that heart does not make you a good player on it's own. Ports showed some real spirit for our team and I thought his use as a back up ruckman while we still don't really have anyone cemented in that position would have been useful.

The fact that this act was the highlight of his career suggests that he didn't make the most of his ability (or had very little of it to start with).

Still, seemed like a good bloke so good luck to him.

I'm running out of guys to shake my head at when I see selection news with Clayton and Porter gone. We need to pick up Picione and Knobel to balance up the ledger again.

There's something about watching your ruckman being the first to dive on a lose ball in the centre square.

Will miss you Ports.

And Just to make it official ..

Bad luck to Ports. If he doesn't get picked up then he can hold his head up high as he always gave 100%.

I also assume this means that McIntosh will definately be staying ? I doubt we would dump porter if he was not going to re-sign ? I recall the rumour that he had resigned but I am yet to see anything official

Here's a bloke who generated very little output but put in a massive effort every minute he was on the park, and in so doing, won the admiration and respect of most fair minded supporters. Obviously a fantastic fella, and it's a shame he didn't have more impact.

In terms of where this places us as a club, I think it's a fantastic sign that Laidley isn't prepared to stick with what he knows in what shapes as an important year in his coaching career. If we don't pick up one of the other cast-off ruckmen from other clubs, I am assuming Corey will take on the main rucking role for the start of next season, and if he doesn't come up, Hale and McIntoch will get their go to be our number 1 big man. That's a very big pre-season carrot for these young lads.

Good luck in the future bigfella. We can only wish that some other players at the club had your work ethic, they would be superstars.

Whilst I agree that he was a great tryer, and I'm sure he was a top fella too, I'm surprised at how people seem to be somewhat dissapointed at his delisting. Seems to against what a lot of people have written about him on here the last couple of years.

I thinks it's a great decison by the club. Wouldn't have been easy I wouldn't think, but definately in the best interests of the younger ruckmen and the club in general. All Porter was doing was holding back other players, whilst not really contributing anything himself.

And before anyone thinks I'm totally heartless, I wish Porter all the best also, and I appreciate his efforets for the club, and hope he can continue elsewhere. But thumbs up for Laidley for this decision I reckon.

Fair call.

I don't think he was much of a chance playing on after we signed Nathan Thompson to balance out our stocks of big men.

I certainly wish the big Sasquatch the best of luck, loved watching him bust his guts at ground level and always put in 120%.

Porters delsiting indicates that Laids has a lot of confidence in Hale and/or McIntosh stepping up in 2005. I wonder which one he is more enthusiastic about? I've got a hunch its McIntosh.

With Thompson and Rocca holding down two tall forward posts, I think Drew and Corey will alternate through ruck and CHF, with Hale having stints in both spots, and Drew occasionally heading to defence.

It might take a while to settle what our preferred structure is, but having Corey, Drew, Hale, the Arab and to a lesser extent Brown & Rocca ALL being able to play either ruck or froward, it's very versatile, and a very daunting proposition for opposing teams.

With the above permutations and combinations, plus the big H waiting in the wings, it's easy to see why Mark Porter got the "Chaminda Vaas".

Yes, porter tries his heart out, but trying can only get you so far. You still need some sort of talent which unfortunately Porter didn't really have. We did persist with him for three years, and as a ruckman he did only have one really good year in his career - which was with carlton. Never made an impact at north, so I'm not surprised he has been delisted. Feel for Porter, but the AFL is a tough competition so I he just have to move on

I actually thought Ports' influence was underrated a bit. Was never one to rack up the stats, but often opposing ruckmen never really dominated him as he knew how to use his body at stoppages and centre bounces to negate the opposing ruckmen, and stop opposition midfields racking up the clearances against us.

No star, but I don't think he was as useless as some people think. Someone summed him up well on another site, he had a pretty quick brain, but his body couldn't keep up with it.
