Possible No.1 Draft Picks

The biggest thing here most people are forgetting is that we will most likely trade away at least one of our picks.

My hope is that we get past trade period without that happening. Only then should we contemplate who to select.

If for example we use our 2nd round pick for Warnock at Freo, it wouldn't be such a bad thing. We'll be getting a 21 year old 206cm tall ruckman who can move well and has already proven he can play senior football. He'd still have a good 10 years left in him so it would almost be better to trade for him as a more known quantity than to take a stab at a completely unproven 18 year old ruckman in the draft.

Just like Polak, how has he gone this year?

There are massive question marks on Warnock as a player, soft, slow. How about we just develop our own, ah yeah we don't do that instead we prefer the quick fix option that results in our list development taking 10 times longer.

I thought Warnock was bloody good last night. Has the height, pretty good skills. Was a dog act cleaning up ball but looks like a player if you ask me. I like Patto but he's a second ruckman so unless Angus or Putt really come on, I think we should trade. Maybe Pettifer and our second pick for Warnock?

That said, if Warnock plays like he did last night, Freo will just keep him.

Freo won't want Pettifer. It is unlikely anyone will.

Didn't see the game last night but have seen enough of Warnock to suggest he will just be an average backup ruckman. I want more for our second round pick than that.

I am sick to death of this club trading away draft picks and our supporters being happy with that. We have done it since Miller arrived in 2002 and not once have we gone close to making the finals. Maybe we should all learn that this is a failed tactic and try something new and just trust the draft, of which people here suggest this one is very strong. Especially since the next 3 drafts will be effected and therefore weak.

First Pick: Best player don't care who it is I just want the best player there at that time.

Second Pick: I would like McKernan or Trengrove at this pick

Third Round: Trade for Ryan Murphy from Freo

Fourth Round: A inside Mid

PSD: A good young player eg.under 24

Rookie: Joel Smoha? he was a ruckman from QLD last year didn't get picked up but apprently he has improved quite alot.

Thoughts?

I highly doubt either Trengrove or Mckernan will be around at our second pick (22ish)...I wouldnt mind Mckernan with our first!

And I dont really know Murphy but I heard hes a bit of a dud...why dya want him?

Trengrove will fall past the first round i think due to injury. I have more info on it but don't really want to divulge. Unfortunately I would think that he is now a speculative pick despite his massive talent.

I think the club will go down it's normal line of best available and try and pick up one of each like we did in last years draft. Mid, KP, Ruck in no particular order. After Cleve's performance today i wouldn't mind if they went for another midfielder first up.

bigstyletiger if you are going to crap on about so called inside knowledge of a potenital draft pick without substantiating the facts then maybe you should either step up or shut up. this kid will be 100% You have no facts!

What's the point arguing about it? If i'm wrong then I would think that's a better result. Good luck to the kid. I hope that he recovers and his knee never gives him any trouble again. You just have to look at Beau Muston and Max Bailey. Regulation knee injuries at a young age and it just keeps coming back to bite them. I would think that clubs will be reluctant to use a top draft pick on Trengrove due to his injury. The Hawks only did it with Muston as they had a raft of early picks that year.

You’re correct there is no point in argument. However, you did make the statement - "I have more info on it but don't really want to divulge"

All I am saying is divulge it if it is true?

It is frustrating to read unsubstantiated stuff.

The fact is this kid is trying to get drafted, probably feels s*"t and you made a statement that are not based on fact. TrengOVE's injury is external ligament, no damage at all to the main internal ligaments based on full knee reco's.

You may wish to view the Cats recent games with Joel Selwood. The Rising Star Winner. Knee reco and look at him now, a champion. My bet is many clubs are upset they did not take the chance on Selwood. I also note a Sydney player recently going quite well after knee reco. Trengove's injury although a set back has nowhere near the damage of Joel Selwood injury and he is on target to make 100% recovery in plenty of time for draft day.

If you do have some other "inside info" then let’s have it champ otherwise stick to the facts. Cheers

I hope we get J Watts however he is impressing with each game, he kicked another 5 today for vic metro he may go before we have a pick.
Watts has great speed over 20 meters, basketball background, great contested mark and only in year 11 - the upside is massive.
I dont think Natnui will go number 1, many will disagree with me. I dont think he is the best player in the draft, probably a couple in front of him.
In this years draft we need to take the best available tall. Watts Hurley McKernan.
If the bombers finish below us, I think they would go for hurley as they have Neagle and Gumbleton up forward but lack Key defenders.
I think this years draft will provide depth and we will be able to pick up a good mid with our second pick.

Many bottom age kids will nominate this year as they wont want to go to the Coast the following, if we can trade for some picks, second or third round we can compliment a very young and exciting list.

We need players who are quick - agile and 194 - 196 cm in height.

Who has seen Trengrove and McKernan play? Describe them!

Pick 10 = Trengrove 196 cm - Calder

pick 26 = Warnock and Mundy (Shockers Trade - we throw in Raines / Newman) :thumbsu:

Pick 42 = Jayden Post 195 cm - Western Jets

Pick 58 = Fort Caruso. 11 cm and 8 kilo's wringing wet - but a real goer. :thumbsu:

No idea. Newman is the next RFC captain you dill. And Caruso is not only short and skinny, he's also slow and he can't kick. If we have any sense we'll be loading up on kids seeing as this is the last untainted draft for a while.

Not a fan of this post.

For starters Caruso is a tryer but has found his level in the VFL. Trengrove is a speculative pick, especially with his knee. Mundy is never going to play key position or midfield and doesn't hurt teams with his disposal like Newman does. Warnock is average at best despite being a man mountain and barely cracks the Freo side.

Realistically we need to get one of Hurley, Watts or Mckernan early (I imagine one of them should slip to our pick). Should that not happen I can imagine us getting a Yarren or Hartlett (if the above are taken one should slip through) and then target Trengrove in the second round (which is about where Muston went i.e late first early second).

Rookie a whole bunch of ruckmen (I subscribe to the school of thought that they're a waste of early picks unless a standout). Throw up Pettifer for trades and potentially hang onto Raines for the Gold Coast.

That's how I'd do things anyway.

its not the bottom agers from this year its the bottom agers from next year, the top age U16 players from this year, and its only the players born before april 30th 1992

Yep totally agree Simche. Big fan of holding onto players who we can trade to gold coast for a good pick. There was an article in the paper the other day outlining GC17's proposal. Basically they want 20 of the first 25 picks - top 5 and then 10 to 25 but they are proposing that it is a stipulation that they must trade 10 of those picks. Raines and McGuane would be ideal candidates and may net us a couple of very handy picks. GC17 will mean more trading is done and there is a real option to offload some of our depth players.
