Why wouldn't they keep them and pass in the actual draft? They may need the points or do a deal with them during live trading.
They didn't have the list spots to hold them.

So port forfeited 66, 67 and 72. Surely they could have got something from them?
Probably only by downgrading another higher pick. Trade 12,66,67 to Geelong for 17, 36. Geelong might have accepted that. Or trade 18, 66,,67 to hawthorn for hawthorns 2020r1.
You could also trade pick 24 and your 2020r2 to hawthorn for their 2020r1. Use 12,14,66,67. 66,67 would be brought into the late 50's with the various father son and academy picks chewing through about 3 picks each. This or something like it could still happen if you do some sort of swap with hawthorn, probably unlikely though.Geelong didnt have the list spots to take on any extra picks.
