If you were picking a side to play a final from the entire league he would be one of the first picked, I always thought those bagging him were just outing themselves of both not understanding the game and not really loving the game. He is a rare talent.

Such a shame he plays for Hawthorn.
Oh, I don't know, I find I quite like having him in the brown and gold. :)

Ahh, who am I kidding? I absolutely love watching him play footy.

That passage of play where he out ran a tiring Rutten was pretty impressive I must say.

Had a good last 10 minutes but he butchered a lot of opportunities in the first 3 quarters, I doubt Hawks supporters would be praising his game if they lost.

Na he's still no good. Overrated. Poor stats. He was ok last night, decents stats, but his stats overall are still no good. I pore all over his stats and they're not that good. I look at his stats while the game is on and they're poor. He needs to improve his stats, they're no good. Stats are everything, and Rioli needs to get better stats before I consider him to be a good player with good stats.

That's probably the point. He single-handedly got Hawthorn over the line when the whips were really cracking. Bit like Reiwoldt in the 2009 PF, who was pantsed by Morris in the 1st half but who (with Hayes) was the difference in the 2nd.

BigFooty really is a toxic place. It would seem the amount of garbage written about a player on an internet message board can inform peoples opinions on said player. Watch the bloke play, make up your own mind, don't let the musings of thousands of people with nothing better to do make up your mind for you.

Past few years, I've learned to really not give a crap about what anyone else thinks of Rioli. Remember when the general consensus was that he wasn't a big game player? His two best games have been in a Grand Final and a Preliminary ffs.

What can I say, I was so inspired by the apologies thread for the Crows after their loss.

Rioli has been discredited a lot this week after his position in the AA team.

Hawthorn fans know what he does each week, but because of the medias focus on him since the start of his amazing career for the flashier things, his hard work and presences is denied. He is the kind of player that if he wins the Norm Smith, then Hawthorn will win the grand final easily.

He was immense tonight and one of the BOG.

Credit is due.
Your kidding right? He basically confirmed what everyone has been saying all along. He plays a few good minutes of footy and then gets labelled a hero and a genius. No one doubts his skills but he plays a few fantastic minutes and then those minutes get dwelled on for the rest of the game. Jetta is a fair way ahead IMO. He is just as skilfull as Cyril, quicker and can play a full game.

While there is no case for this thread, this response is indicative of the odd perception people on here have regarding the game Cyril played last night. There was nothing about his game that was a "few good minutes last night". He was excellent from the outset, ended up with 26 disposals and kicked 2 goals 3 behinds. After playing the majority of the game in the midfield, he was sent forward late and arguably won the game for Hawthorn.

A few good minutes? Watch the game.

Just another reason to look forward to a great GF - still know the recently departed Sebastian is the most exciting Rioli I have seen, Cyril & Maurice exciting, just one back from Sibby !!

He's pretty ****ing good, but Mitchell was BOG in that game by a mile. He, Burgoyne and Sewell just turn it on in the middle when they need to, and are unstoppable. I have no idea what the Swans will do with them next week. Rioli just needs to be given more respect than he was last night (vs. Luke Thompson in the goal square with the game in the balance? Jesus christ).

Underrated :thumbsu:

Very good player but I get sick of hearing about him. Whether it be neutrals claiming he's overrated or hawks supporters and effeminate media commentators pumping him up.

This perception of him as a flashy player who can be tagged out if it is false IMO. His defensive work is elite, each touch he gets is worth 5 of Dane Swan. He won't be stopped.

Have you ever seen Hawthorn play Sydney before? Rioli never hurts us, because Nick Smith has his measure. Rioli's personal best goal haul against the Swans is 1 goal. His average tackles per game against the Swans is about 2, and his career average tackles are 5. And he has accumulated a grand total of 0 Brownlow Medal votes against Sydney.

And since I know Hawthorn fans don't like stats when discussing Rioli, it's fairly easy to tell, by simply watching any game Cyril has played against the Swans in his career, that Cyril has never had a noticeable impact on any of those games. Whether the Swans win or lose the Grand Final, Nick Smith will have done to Cyril the same thing he always does. Turned him into a spectator.

Shat himself twice when he saw Dangerfield on the mark... Was thinking of playing on the decided, correctly, not to.
Noticed this too, he didn't however "shit himself" ... that's merely clever football, he had respect for Dangerfield and played cleverly acknowledging the fact taking him on would be dangerous.

On the other hand, it will be great fun if they lose. :)

I can't stand how most of our supporters are already thinking that the cup has been engraved. If we lose we have no one to blame but ourselves for the but*hurt that will come because of it.

On Friday night on BF I didn't see much acknowledgement (from anyone admittedly, not just Hawthorn supporters) that Hawthorn actually had to get past Adelaide to be in the GF. It seemed to be a given that they were there already. And we know how that nearly worked out.

Mate to be honest i didn't even watch the game. I am just going by what people are saying on here, that he only played a few good minutes. If thats wrong then i apologise but that doesn't change my opinion about him. In know way am i doubting his skills, they are exceptional. Just don't think he is at the point where he can consistantly put good performances in.
