I keep changing my team around but it keeps going back to my original lineup. The recent change i have made is Bateman for Kerr as I think he may be more consistant.

M: Bartel, Judd, Bateman, Hasleby, Skipworth, Rich (Ziebell, Robertson)
R: Cox, Ottens (Currie, Tippet)
F: Harvey, Pavlich, Deledio, Brennan, Lucas, Higgins, Yarran (Sidebottom, T.Walker)


I think I have a balanced team, just wondering if anyone can see any obvious improvements for my side?

Very nice team Juddy. I've been dicking around with mine today and have come close to this set up too (please disregard the one I posted earlier). I have to disagree about Bateman's consistency though- have a look at his stats from last year:

A bit up and down. I reckon Kerr's chart will look like this at the end of 2009, but with a few more 150+ games.

Your team is pretty balanced, keep an eye on the NAB Cup as guys like Yarran, Pettard and Raines aren't guranteed to make an impact even give their hype. Also swap Brennan for someone as he's too inconsistent and Batman is an interesting one. Free up some cash and replace him with a bigger star as you need another in the midfield.

Re: Brennan- I had exactly the same thought, but he actually did a lot better than you may think he did last year, especially at the business end:

That's about what I'd expect from a sub $500K player to be honest. And I know you can't take much from one pre-season game, but the lions were very bloody good in patches last night- Vossy might just be able to put enough of a rocket up them that they are more of a threat than they were last year- bringing SC scores up as well.

Ok so I've made a few amendments to spread things out a bit, I'm still a little bit concerned about the forward line, the emergencies will change toward the start of the season, but what about this team?

I'd keep Pendlebury for sure, he is ready to explode in my opinion. I've got Franklin as well but I'm not sure, is he going to right for round 1 or not? I'd get Higgins into the forward line and recruit Sidebottom to the bench in the center with Rich starting on the ground. Don't worry about Yarran I'd keep him around too.

I had to get rid of Yarran to get Higgins in the forward line. I got Troy Selwood to replace him in the midfield. Now I don't have enough to get Sidebottom

EDIT: By the way would it be better to get Sidebottom as an emergency in the forward line rather than center? My emergencies are just rough at the moment, and suggestions would be appericiated.

Birchall is an interesting choice, I don't know much about him though, I wouldn't get Houlihan, I remember his brother all too well... Hasleby is a tad risky. I originally had him but decided to get someone cheaper and who has more chance of playing e.g Troy Selwood. Good ruck, although I still wonder whether Cox is worth the money, at 28 I'm not sure he can keep that form up. Pavlich, ehhh, I would trade him for someone cheaper and upgrade one of your other forwards (Gumbleton if you have the money). Buddy is ALWAYS a risk.

Question for everyone: TRAVIS BOAK - WORTH 450-470k???

Backline your weakest? I don't think so. Pavlich and Franklin has sapped a lot of your money that should be invested in a more consistant midfield. 99k, I'd upgrade either one of your cheaper backmen or Kerr/Lewis/Reilly.

Lewis and Franklin have had delayed pre-seasons. I would be looking at trading to them after the first couple of rounds in the season (perhaps after the first five).

I also understand that Hurley has had his gall bladder removed and therefore has missed a lot of Essendon's pre-season. May not be a starter for round 1.

I have two team templates that I am down to. The first one is the one you commented on and the second one involves having Pendlebury instead of Bateman and J.Brown instead of Brennan and Ellis instead of Adcock. I may also need to start with a $94,000 rookie such as Surban as my 7th back which could be mighty risky if I decide to go with team template B.

Backline is awesome.

Midfield is very good.

Maric as second ruck could either work or go pear shaped. 50/50 for me.

Forward line is one premium short for my liking.

Agreed, I'd say get rid of Murphy or Higgins, and put in a delidio, or Okeefe, if have the cash who score 100+ Murphy I had last year, was good and then went to shit.
