Saw Godland. An Icelandic movie at the scandi film festival. Pretty good!

Will see barbie and Oppenheimer as well now that crowds have died down. Both look decent. How could you not want to see Robbie and Gosling

One of the funniest scenes I’ve seen is Gosling in The Nice Guys where he slashed his wrist trying to break through the door glass. Can’t help laughing as I type this, his face when he looks at what he’s done is too funny.

Hollywood movies are pretty horrendous now. Enjoyed the Aussie movie The Stranger and the Irish movie The Banshees of Inisherin.

I've started downloading the nominees for best picture since the mid 50's. Some bit hits and some bad misses. Just about to start on the 70's.

70's is generally the worse decade of movies ......LOL excluding the current decade, which as you say is terrible

I've got all the 30's, 40's, 50's , 60's .....and so on movies ....and each decade is characterised by a particular genre
So if you like Screwball Comedy, Rom-Com's, Film Noirs', Musicals, Horror, or Sci-Fi .....then a particular decade has a heavy emphasis on those movies

Have a look at a few Youtube sites:

Really. I would say the opposite. God Father 1 and 2, One Flew Over, Chinatown, The Deer Hunter, The French Connection, Jaws, Dog Day Afternoon, Rocky, Taxi Driver, Midnight Express - all classics.

In overall content, I should have said .....and I was comparing quality across decades

Every year has 5-6 good to great movies .....but the depth can fall away after that
You've named 11 films over a 10 year period ?

My problem is, there's a lot of great movies, it's harder and harder to get your hands on

Where do you get your old movies?

Yes, agree .....really enjoyed the movie ....better than what the story premise outline
We don't get enough movies like that.

They knew what they were offering, they didn't try to make it critically acclaimed.

It reminds me of Super Troopers in that way.

I know streaming services aren't awesome

But that's why it like them in that they throw the odd low budget cracker
The streamers used to have some great shows & movies .....then they ran out of money, due to increased competition from other streamers

There'll be rationalisation of streamers ....and then the product will improve again

I know this is a movie thread ....but I was disappointed the series "1899" was canned after 1 season .....it had real possibilities

Didn't see it. But the streamers do seem quick to cut shows

The show was from the same people that made Westworld ......leaving more questions than answers at the end of each episode

My theory on non English movies is that when you can't understand the dialogue, you assume the acting is all really good. You're then just focusing on the plot and visuals. I reckon that's why I love a lot of foreign films because I'm ignorant to the quality of the acting
Just watching The.Three.Musketeers.(2023). It's in Frech but you get subtitles. The Foreign movies do have good optics and stories and the costumes are great.

I just finished The Last Manhunt.

Not sure if its been mentioned but on Foxtel. Based on a true story. I am not sure if it a remake of "Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here". So much different to the original and more believable.
