Only a matter of time till Father Son is done. The last few years have cooked it. Brisbane could pay for Ashcroft with this year R1 and add next years R1… and they still are a mile in front. Access to kids good enough to go that early are just so hard to get if you are a finals team.

People talk about the romanticism … but there is no romanticism if the player is late pick fringe player. Its all about if the player is a gun talent.

Maybe just throw everyone in the pool and then ..just like Ollie henry etc …they find a way to get to where they want to be when uncontracted

Completely disagree with this. Father/Son has been a thing in Australian Rules, in one way or the other, for the last 100 years and it's not about to go away now.

Deep down, supporters don't want the likes of Daicos/Ablett/Darcy/etc playing in the wrong jumper. Footy is still romantic and tribal, always has been.

What will happen IMO is that the points system will be re-jigged to kill off or lessen the discount.

Even that I disagree with. Jed Bews wouldn't have been picked up by us if he weren't Andrew's son, and yet it's still good to see him playing in the hoops.

It has not been 100 years at all. It started with Barrassi ..it certainly predates the concept of draft and the idea…of trying to socialise the comp thru spreading talent thru a draft. It has change that many times over the years ..that its barely the same. Going from 50 games to 25 games to 50 then 100. Its changed from including coachs . Its changed. from accessing them for R3 picks to matching ..to points …. and now with the introduction of aflw. we can have a genetic link of 1 game.

…and I see no reason why Dacios and Ashcroft as players should be gifted advantages that the likes of JHF and Harley Reid have not been .. If a side like Geelong wants the player then they could draft them….or like with Ollie Henry bring them in when OOC.

No one cares about late picks like Bews really… The main issue is high level talent not going to the bottom sides. If one excluded Father Son from R1 …most of the grumbles woudl disappear. The Camporeale for Carlton or Welsh in Adelaide will be interesting to see where in draft they go.

Mooney and Wojo F/S got some good reports about their game in the local junior GF. Doesn’t anyone know anything further about them? The addy article said they are late developers and know could be on track to be drafted next year. Does anyone know what position they play? It’d be good to find some key position f/s in the coming years.

Highly unlikely that Wojo, Mooney or Riccardi will make it onto AFL lists. They're good solid under 18s players but not stand outs. Playing seniors at GFL level would be the ceiling for all of them in my opinion.
