Power delistings

Either way he was criminally underrated on this board for years.

Once again, I don't really give a shit what most people on this board have to say about him. People have said much the same about guys like Cornes, Schulz, Lobbe, Pearce, Chaplin, and my boy O'Shea as they did about Thomas and Logan. Thomas never got the chance to prove them wrong, but there will be new whipping boys soon enough. I'm guessing Hitchcock will be the fan favorite.

Lurk3r I guess its just differing opinion btw posters. Though you got to understand that alot of those opinions were formed from exposed form over 8 years and 87 games.

I guess in a way he was a more successful version of Chris Hall or Jaxon Crabb who were really solid SANFL(WAFL) players but never translated it(opportunity) to the AFL stage

Regardless - Matty Thomas still represented PAFC for 87 games and we thank him for that

Numbers freed up:

19, 21, 24, 31, 33, 43, 45, 46

J-Macs number 35 will be used in 2014

Too hasty. Wrong call on Thomas and possibly Blee.

What if Thomas wins the Magery, the Jack Oatey and has Richmond and Brisbane fighting for him. Then we may have got compensation for him or decided to keep him. What if Salter or D.Stewart or Blee kick a bag in a GF? Why couldn't we wait until the end of the sanfl GF?

Given the way Logan improved when put in a decent team set up, why wasn't Thomas given a chance in a well performing set up. He monstered Carlton last year when we were shit, he should have been given a greater chance than he was. Wrong call on this one.

We would never get compensation for Thomas, a free agent just selects the offer he likes, the jockeying for his services does not come into the equation, only the contract he accepts. If Knights & Byrnes did not earn their parent club any compensation, there is no way in hell Thomas would get any for us.

Plus I see no reason for the Magarey or any of the remaining SANFL finals this year being of any consequence to our decisions on the players delisted, it's their ability within the AFL ranks moving forward that has spelt the end for them. Those not debuted in the AFL have not shown any reason to retain them.

Tommy Logan has been retained because of the way he has played in the AFL.

I can see us sending Hitchcock to the crowbots when they have to make a desperate last minute trade after the Betts chase falls over.

I like that idea FF, BTW, you are vicious ... ;)

Im sure we'll make another round of delistings.

Yep, on our web site

Changes to Port Adelaide player list

Port Adelaide will continue to review its list ahead of AFL list lodgement on October 31.

Changes to Port Adelaide player list

I'm content with the delistings we made today, mildly surprised that Blee has gone, but not going to fuss about it.

Hitchcock, Renouf, Newton & Ah Chee are all damn lucky to have survived the initial cuts, although more can still be made. Or even perhaps, in Hitchcock's & Renouf's case, some other clubs may have asked about them?

I firmly believe Kane Mitchell has earned the right to be elevated onto our senior list.

All harsh but fair decisions. A bit surprised to see Hitchy retained (for now at least) but there's no harm in giving him one more year to hopefully get an injury free run to prove himself under the new regime.

Blee is quite a shock. Not sure why we delisted Thomas if Richmond are interested, but fair enough I really hope he gets a go at Richmond, not sure what happened to BMT this year:(

The same thing that was always going to happen once we had a good list. He was overtaken by better players.

may I suggest BIG MATTY B? or SMALL SAMMY C?

Ahahaha, 'Small Sammy C'. Love it.

How on earth is Newton still on the list?

He's only just turned 21, he's essentially a first year player this year given the way injuries destroyed his first two years on the list, and he tore up the SANFL in the last month or two of the season. Why on Earth would we take him off the list?

Wait what, Hitchcock is still contracted? How the **** did that happen?

I wish we would retire 35 but anyway

Hitchy is a good footy player and so is Ah Chee... the latter is only young still whilst Hitchy should be given another go because with a full preseason he could be a surprise best 22 player. He is in there with 6-8 I fully expect to push to cement a spot in the team

I'd like to thank all the guys who are now gone for their efforts & being part of the Port Adelaide family, especially Matty Thomas, I hope they find opportunities at any level next season.

The jumper numbers available, 19, 21, 24, 31, 33, 35, 43, 45 & 46.

I'd make the following changes

19 - Tom Jonas
21 - Aaron Young
24 - Polec (I hope ... :D)
31 - A traded in player
33 - Brendon Ah Chee
35 - Our 1st 2013 draft pick
37 - Kane Mitchell elevated onto senior list
40 - Our 2nd 2013 draft pick
41 - Our 1st rookie draft pick
42 - Our 2nd rookie draft pick
43 - Our 3rd rookie draft pick
45 - Our 4th rookie draft pick
46 - An international player of monstrous size added to our rookie list
47 - An international player who is an athletic freak added to our rookie list

Jonas to 21 IMO. The closest thing we've had to Wilbur Wilson since the great man retired.

Swap Jonas & Young, I can live with that, Youngy aint a bad Wilbur clone either though ... ;)

Lets face it, they never do numbers on the basis of player X carrying on the legacy of player Y, it's done on seniority.

10 is available too, right? Boaky doesn't need it.

Jonas would be a good player to take up the 35, I would think. Represents what the McCarthy number is supposed to, plus he's got a bit of Chad Cornes about him.

Give Youngy 10, would put him between Robbie and Butcher, which seems pretty fair.

First round draftee can have 21, raffle the others with any new listings.

Captains number is retired until they stop being captain or they retire.

Mainly because of the Tredrea/Pearce fiasco a few years back.

Hinkley and co. see a lot in Hitchcock, he keeps making it into the team / emergency list when nobody is expecting it. He's not getting delisted, I think we are done with delistings now unless we manage to make an absolute scoop of some rucks, then Renouf could go late.

Hitchcock, like Butcher you would imagine, would be looking at a 'Its 2014 or bust' scenario. Hope he repays the faith.

FFS Butcher is not in a "2014 or bust" situation.

Ok, it's not often I use North as an example of what to do, but they have managed their key position players extremely well. They've held extraordinary patience with Lachie Hansen and he has now progressed into quite a valuable player. Aaron Black took three years to get a game, but now he looks to be one of the more impressive young key position forwards going around in the game today. Tarrant is still hit and miss despite being there six years, but is capable of some very good football and can look very good when he is playing well. They waited three years for Daw - now he's still a long way off, but the signs are there that he could be a very dangerous player.

You cannot be impatient with key forwards. Invest in them - particularly highly rated juniors and you will be rewarded in the long run. Not all will be superstars, but you end up with some very capable players.
