The Fu#k was that, i am relying on you guys to get the bloody cup out of Victoria. I really hope the Giants win now. In 2018 we lost the first game to the Swans and then went on a winning streak, i hope you guys do the same, in reality you are way too good not to win the premiership this year, dont let us all down.

I think we can win a premiership without Kiddy but it's going to require a player (or two) who we weren't expecting to have a standout season, find a way to do so.

And perhaps a fit and firing Ashcroft before September. It's a lot to ask for.

Payne is a liability. Purely a back up player. I have never been his biggest fan but Gardiner was super in the prelim and granny and should have been given first crack in defence.

if coleman has done an acl i dont think we could have thought of a worse way to start the season.

thinking outside the box a bit, id get doedee to play colemans role. loose interceptor / distributor. doedee is not a coleman level kick, but it is definitely one of his weapons and his intercept game is terrific. give him the license to play more unaccountable and i think he could flourish.

It seems we do not bounce back from adversity in games that well. From lights going out, missing easy goals, injury to a star player. We often leave it for the next week to bounce back.

Sometimes that just isn't acceptable.

I agree that we lack that real "foot on the throat" mentality and we have seen that over the last few seasons, but I don't think that's a reason to write us off completely, or that we'll losing multiple games this year by 50+ points.

We're not a good round 1 side, and we made a very good football team look third rate tonight when we were on. I don't think we should be writing off the season yet.

Kiddy had become just about our most important player. He can't be replaced but it is what it is. Right on the half time siren too.

I'm not a believer but I'm sending off a few prayers tonight that some sort of miracle occurs and it's not the ACL.

Really feel for him as he was all set for AA etc. this year . I guess we have guys who've been through it all to help keep his spirits up.

The other thing to ponder is the mentality of the players now seeing Kiddy with an injury like that, knowing how important he was to our chances.

The players know how hard a GF is to make, let alone win, it makes you wonder how they’ll bounce back mentally coming off last year and then losing a key player in the first game.

Will take some coaching effort over the next few weeks in particular, I’d suggest.

If Kiddy is out for the season my enthusiasm will drop off a reasonable amount. Such a gun, and I was so keen to watch him this year.

Even if none of them are real replacements at least we have McKenna to come back in, Doedee to add something new down back (in a couple of months, admittedly) and Wilmot can likely push back there instead of up to the wing. Ah Chee did a decent job tonight too.

I hate losing to Carlton and I hate losing like that even more. That first quarter is what we're trying to do consistently, but for whatever reason we can't keep it up.

In the end, it's a 1 point loss to a top 6 team in the opening round. We had a hell of a lot of chances to win that even after we'd blown the big early lead. Immensely frustrating (especially with the Kiddy injury), but hardly panic stations. Long season.

It certainly is panic stations, considering Carlton were missing Weitering and Walsh.

Round zero gets the thumbs down for me. Season's way too long and injury lists are something every club will be dealing with this year.
