I’m sure West Caost and North players want to win the flag to so of course our player do to but this window is just about shut and tonight’s pea hearted effort underlines that.

When have we put in efforts like Blues did and fought back like that?

Try last year's prelim bud.

What's up with Jack Payne ? Is he carrying something ? We know from 12 games last year he can contest a lot better than that.

It’s not that Payne is carrying something, it is that the team are carrying him. We are carrying his lack of effort and willingness to pressure opponents, we are carrying his inability to fight and contest when the ball is on the ground and we are carrying his poor decision making.

Lester and Gardiner are light years ahead of him as defenders.

I wonder if Fagan reaches for the MULLIGANS. I know it’s early days, but he loves dishing out the mulligans to his favourites.

You said that last year about winning the flag.

We were literally a kick away from winning the flag, and we had far worse losses than this last year.

I liked the part where the lions kicked lots of goals. I didn’t like the part where the other team kicked lots of goals.

I would be dropping Payne after tonight.

The one that hurt bad was the Charlie 15 m in front miss.

Shocker.
Hipwood’s miss from roughly the same distance was equally as bad as was Joes two in the third that both should’ve been kicked.

Same issues continue to blight this team that never gets addressed.

Surely it’s also time for a new ruck coach or O to be moved on. Joe was losing ruck contests to smalls and O was again embarrassing in the ruck. Somewhere within this lies the issue because the status quo surely can’t continue and expect different results.

Just back to the hotel after the game , for my birthday I had to put up with blue supporters in blues brother tops. Terrible performance after qtr time , missed 3 sitters in the second and the play list went out the window, forward line was dis functional at best went to the pocket every time , pressure went off like a flat tyre nothing for 2nd and third qtr. thought big o was poor in the ruck and their delivery to there big forwards had little or no pressure so our blokes had little chance

Dissapointing efforts after travelling all this way. Sounds like Coleman may have done a knee which is a real blow

Only a point in the end but huge problems have surfaced from it

Maggot assisted win for the blues , last 1/4 umpiring was pathetic

Thankyou Tiger man. I won’t say I hope you lot win tomorrow because I have a soft spot for the suns, but I definitely won’t be upset if you do win so good luck.

Joe's second shot at goal was some of the most selfish football I can remember seeing in a Lions game. Lohmann was 35 m out and unchecked. Rayner had a one on one ahead. He looked at both and took a shot instead. Absolutely selfish by Joe.

Did you see the outs Carlton had and our virtually full strength outfit?

I’ll debate during the week if I want to spend my hard earned to watch us potentially dish up another weekend ruiner.

On the plus side we’re playing in the traditional Fremantle time slot, so at most you’ll only get a few hours of your weekend ruined

Berry is the purest example of when someone is described as just a player
He will get a MULLIGAN, despite the fact he has gone ‘back to back’ for absolute stinkers.

Ah come on man, Payne was in AA contention at the bye last year. Had a stinker tonight, but don’t discount that he has shown he can be good enough.

In fact I seem to recall you specifically saying that Gardiner wasn’t an AFL calibre defender when it was him and Lester vying for the 3rd tall spot last year? Change of tune?

Warning signs were there at the gabba late last year

Limped over the line v Saints/ cats / crows. Maybe, MAYBE this is the catalyst to refocus at home and start crushing teams there again?

Okay my post at #190 is literally talking about these terrible posts.

WE WON A QUALIFYING FINAL BY 48 POINTS AND WON A PRELIM FINAL BOTH AT HOME AFTER THESE THREE GAMES.

Why does everything positive about this side get ignored when things don’t work out?! Did we not crush Port at home?! Cats, Saints and Crows were also very decent sides who played very well on those days and I feel like not enough credit goes to the opposition when they manage not to lose by 50 points at the Gabba.

I agree - though he shouldn’t. Fagan’s rigidness at the selection table has to change this year. If I were toiling in the twos and saw Berry continually getting opportunities despite his performances being horrid, I’d be quite disgruntled.
Dev Robertsen in, or Tunstill/Prior, Berry out to show we are serious about standards.

how many goals would we have won by if we had Curnow and Harry? ......ya know, like forwards that can lead and mark.....and kick

“Team would be improved if we had literally the best forward in the league since Buddy Franklin” is certainly a take mate

He was good last year. He isn’t moving like he was - not sure Gardiner is a forward at all. That gives us a real surplus of backs.
Need to think how we structure up forward now.

Coming on to bigfooty and getting mad that people are upset after we blew a 46 point lead to lose by a point and one of our best players did their ACL is kind of strange to be honest.

I know it’s frustrating that people aren’t as enlightened, positive and intelligent as you but maybe just let people vent for the moment.

I’ll give my 2 cents on team structure - honestly in the first half I thought Gardiner was alright up forward, worked hard to make a contest where he could and get the ball in favourable positions for us. Billy Frampton essentially nullified Harris doing the same in large portions of the GF last year - it’s a decent strategy to be able to pull out.

Was not Gardiner’s fault at all we shat the bed, nor was it the structure’s fault. It was bad kicking and selfish football after half time.

Ultimately I think we will default back to 2 talls + Rayner as the season progresses. We’ve got Robertson/Ashcroft to fit into the team, extra mid means Rayner pushes forward. I see it as giving us an extra card to play if we have to - and it’s better to sort these things out and get experience now rather than in round 20.
